I'd been surprised to get a reservation on Valentine's Day, and more surprised to find that I could choose to not experience omakase that night. At least, that's what my reservation, and subsequent confirmation, indicated. When we arrived, we were told that it was all omakase, at about 300 per person. We decided to go with it. The experience overall was simply not up to Michelin-star stature; one expects to be gouged a bit on such a holiday, but at least half the courses had been prepared well in advance and were pulled out of the cooler to be served. The first course, oysters, was ... fine. And so on. The fresh fish courses toward the end of the meal, prepared right then, were above average but not exquisite in any respect. With a nice bottle of sake and the included service charge (that hadn't been mentioned online, or when we sat down, or on the menu) the evening came to 900 bucks. That, plus garish bright lighting ... I feel that the place owes me a drink or two!

Ridiculously expensive and pretentious. Food was good but interior is gloomy and cold. Paper placemats with a $295 price fixe Valentines Day menu! Seating next to the bathroom. Staff varies from generous to arrogant.

They were “out” of like 30% of the menu and didn’t explain why, things like medium fatty tuna (essential to the restaurant), eel and king crab as well as the seabass. Ended up paying way too much for sushi that was either not my favorite or that I could have gotten the same quality for a much lower price somewhere else. Should most definitely not have a Michelin Star. You’ll pay 2/3 for 100x better service and value at Sushi Yasuda or Sushi Seki

The waiter at Sushi Inoue provided the worst service my group has ever received. He single handedly is hurting the Michelin reputation. This place must be stripped of its Michelin star immediately. He served us our water and said he will be back to take our order shortly. He then, after 10 minutes of letting us discuss the menu and get excited about the blue fin tuna special, says they ran out of the medium fatty tuna, and because of this, could not do the special unless we agreed to substitute the Lean tuna for the medium fatty- which is a massive downgrade for those who do not know the difference. We asked if maybe we can substitute for something of equal value, and he said "No we won't do that." Of course they didn't have the king crab or the eel either. The waiter was very condescending when speaking with us as well. An overall awful experience. The only enjoyable part was the fatty tuna, which was about a 7/10.

We visited on a Sunday night when many specials -such as the uni tasting menu - were unavailable. What we were able to order a la carte was very good but did not have the specialness one expects at this price level.

Very good food, very average service and lousy atmosphere. If you are ONLY coming for the food, its worth it. If it is for any kind of overall experience, there are much better value places (better food/service/atmosphere for same price, or similar standard at 50% lower price).

Don’t waste your money. Appetizers were too salty, sushi omakase was great, but the setting (like a casual Japanese joint), service (20% but we weren’t offered drink menu, when we asked we were given a menu with only full bottles of sake, and only when we asked for a beer we were offered half bottles, server rarely came back to check on us), lack of drink options, and especially the cost relative to what you get (over $600 for 2 people) means I will not be returning. I feel like I was punched in the gut when we got the bill. We have been to many many nice sushi omakase places and to say this was not worth it is an understatement. The cost would be exorbitant for midtown Manhattan. Tip should be included if nothing else. To add $100 for tip on top for such average service borders on robbery.

Excellent sushi in Harlem! Chef Nakajima is an excellent sushi chef with exceptional sushi preparation skills. I knew this place was special when we had freshly grated wasabi (root) and homemade “gari” (ginger) that looked more like takuwan otsukono. Chef Nakajima’s selection of fish was excellent! We truly enjoyed every bite.

Tonight I had a dinner with my wife at the INOUE and this was the most frustrating gastronomic experience I have ever had in NYC so far after 3 years. For a Michelin star restaurant at least what you expect to have is a decent well prepared food plus a good service, look I’m not even asking for a well decorated space and we didn’t get any of that. We arrived at the place around 7:30pm and even though was quite empty we had to wait a few minutes so someone come to host us at the entrance. Being our first time there we weren’t familiar with the menu options and the waiter couldn’t offer any help with that only answering our questions with lack details and no sympathy whatsoever. They offer a tasting (specially made by the chef) menu at the counter for $255 each. To be honest I would never pay that amount for that ambience and the terrible service from the start. However we’ve decided to go for the regular a la cart menu. We’ve chosen the tuna special ( which supposed to be a varying combination with tuna) and the trio special both together for $158. When the dishes were served we couldn’t believe what was that in front of us. Two plates with regular sushi and soy sauce that’s it, raw fish and rice simple like that. If I wanted to eat something that simple I would’ve grab the sushi combination from Wholefoods only a few blocks away for less then 10% of the price. We were so surprised and frustrated that we tried the waiter to explain the menu again but was a waste of time he said that was it simple like that ( traditional Japanese food) and didn’t even tried to describe the dishes we asked for. Anyway we wouldn’t risk another deception so we asked for the check to get out of that place as faster as we could. This was a freaking expensive mediocre meal and does not worth at all.

I ate at Sushi Inoue, after booking it with OpenTable, and the food and experience was excellent. We spent about $600 for our party of 4, which seemed reasonable for top class food and ambiance. My mother paid the bill on her card, even though I had made the booking (lucky me). 2 days later I was charged $979.88 as a no show! I called and the GM actually argued with me that I had not been there- first saying they'd only sat 2 people that night, and then arguing that my reservation was for the Wednesday, not the Tuesday. Finally, she accepted that we had in fact been there and said she'd credit my card (at this point she did apologize). I do actually believe that this was a mistake, but charging someone almost $1k in error, without first confirming that they hadn't been there (no phone call, no email, nothing), and then arguing (essentially calling me a liar) when you are called on it. I would advise everyone to check their credit card after booking with the restaurant. I also don't think that OpenTable should allow them to be charging no-show fees since they don't appear to be properly confirming whether people have been to the restaurant.

Genuinely one of the worst experiences of my life. Went for vday... was shocked to find out was required to do pre fixed menu at 400 pp which is almost double typical price. Sat for 1 hr before getting food. Got one tiny appetizer of the 8 courses. Waiting another 45 min before getting anything else. We eventually just left.

Valentines Day. We were prepared to pay $225 each for omakasse. Instead they had a valentine special menu for $400 each! No choices. We did it anyway and the service was u imaginably bad. Supposed to be an 8 course meal with sake pairing at each course. Took over an hour for the first two courses. After a long wait, the third course came but no sake. When we turned around d the waiter was gone. Then came dessert. We said what! We’ve only had three courses! The waiter looked confused. The sushi chef shook his head in disappointment. To charge over $1000 with tip and taxes was an outrageous insult

Went this evening for Valentine's Day and frankly not once when making the reservation or when calling to confirm did they mention there would be a special $400 omakase menu for Valentine's Day. This threw off the whole evening. I figured we were walking in to the regular $225 or $275 options but no...$400 and no other choice. I feel like we were conned, they never mentioned this to us beforehand. They food was good but I mean no where worth that price. It did come with an sake pairing, (which if you declined there wasn't a discount)...it was less than an ounce of sake per course, certainly didn't make up for the difference in price. We are not big drinkers and never order a drink pairing when we go out. Insane they forced you to get it. On top of all that, the service was incredibly slow. Our reservation was for 6pm and we didn't get the check until 9:30pm. Three and a half hours for omakase is ridiculous. Leaving the restaurant tonight I genuinely feel like they stole from me.

I came to Sushi Inoue for a romantic anniversary dinner and it had exceeded all expectations. The spot feels exclusive, intimate, and warm. The service is unbelievably friendly and welcoming and is very fast as well. You will see that they only have one type of sake, but rest assured that is all you will need for a great night out. It is incredibly smooth and rich. As for the food itself, I made sure to order as many different types of fish on the menu. The Toro had a fine, buttery flavor while the Saba tasted like it was freshly caught within the hour. The uni melted in your mouth as did the ikura. However, I was most impressed with the ginger and the wasabi. Not many sushi spots can claim to have high quality pickled ginger slices and TRUE wasabi. I will be returning to Sushi Inoue without a doubt soon.

Went the a la carte route... Guess it was a night where I wanted to control my own eating destiny. Overall, it got the basics right - the fish was fresh and the marinades were flavorful and complementary to the fish. I felt the price points for the a la carte were fair - with the small dish starters being on the pricier end. I also found the portion size to be generous. Service was the perfect balance of attentive and let me not be disruptive to your meal. It's not Uchu or Nakazawa and the ambience is definitely different, but I think the sushi is better than Nobu or Blue Ribbon. I liked its simple setting. Wine options are limited: one red italian and one white italian. One beer option: sapporo in a can. More options for sake and that's where I happily settled. I'll be going back.
