Spanish
Mr. Cembrero first came to America from Palencia, Spain in 1994 as a high school exchange student. He lived in Irwin for about a year and kept in touch with his host family after returning to Spain.
Pallantia is the place for Cembrero to share his native home with his adopted one. “I’m a proud Spaniard,” says Cembrero. “And I want to bring the best of my country.” Cembrero grew up helping his grandmother cook paella. For Cembrero, authenticity starts with ingredients, he is importing many key items from Spain.

So glad Juan is back cooking. I am a long time visitor to Pallantia and had stopped going while they did not have a strong chef. The food is so creative, fresh and tasty. The jerk duck wings were a treat along with the potato soup. We will be back.

While the sangria was very good and the staff were great, the food was for the most part only fair, and the calamari was rubbery. Still waiting for Pittsburgh to get a great tapas restaurant

Incredibly disappointing experience. One of the appetizers was cold and another was never delivered. The food that we did eat was marginal as was the service and the meal was expensive. I will not return here or recommend it to anyone else.

The food was horrible. Calamari appetizer was tough, overly fried. Paella was disgusting - some of the seafood was bad. We sent everything back but the sangria.

We just got a bunch of tapas and split between us. They were all good. I was slightly disappointed in the octopus dish as the grilled/charcoal flavor over powered the meat. Everything was very good. Definitely will go back.

They were out of everything. Even things we ordered. They told us they were out of it after we waited 30 minutes. Octopus was charred. Black. Not edible. Obviously short staffed. Terrible experience. We brought our friends for their first experience and we were so embarrassed. Now at a bar down the street eating bar food because we are starving.

We had very good service from wait staff. Very limited menu compared to online menu. At 6pm many items on menu were not available. Spanish beer also not available. Waitress said we would have last order of park bites but they never showed up. Will not return to this restaurant. Too bad since food we received was well prepared and tasty.

I had a great meal at Pallantia several months ago, but at dinner last week there were several items on the menu that were unavailable and the service was very slow. Perhaps the March snow storm had an impact on food delivery and staffing? I was disappointed and will be reluctant to return.

After reading reviews that the service was slow, I was surprised that we walked in, right away asked them to start the seafood paella, as the reviews said it takes an hour. We walked in at 9, ordered 4 tapas, everything came one after another, with the paella right on time at the end, we walked out at 7:15, our bill still under $100. Of course we don't drink alcohol. Great place for food from Spain, we were celebrating our exchange student from Spains birthday, she thought the other Spanish restaraunts rice looked dry and as she said a color you wouldn't want to wear, she said this place had done it right

If you prefer your beer warm, a beautifully stocked bar with no bartender, pork that tastes like cheap general tsos, a waiter/host/food runner/busser in one, and a kitchen staff that hangs out in the dining room in their sweats, then you'll love this place. My wife and I enjoyed it so much, we couldn't wait to run to the restaurant down the street to tell them about the experience!

Menu had fewer options than the last several times we dined at Pallantia. We really enjoyed this restaurant in the past. The recent service was slow and no dessert was offered. The Paella is outstanding! The Patatas Bravavas was good, but much, much better past visits.

We had been wanting to try this restaurant for tapas and were happy to get an early evening reservation on Valentine's Day, only to discover when we got there that they had a special fixed price menu( I guess I should have questioned any restaurant being available on Valentine's Day- they were NOT busy at all). We stayed after being told the regular menu was not available- the food and service were good but it was not what I wanted or expected and not sure who to blame for not being aware: the restaurant, open table, or did I miss it somehow when I booked it. Regardless, no need to venture away from Morcilla for tapas.

Food was good but not exceptional. Lacked depth of flavor. Grilled shrimp was mushy. Skirt steak was over cooked. Poor value for amount of food and sophistication of preparation. Ambience is OK. Nothing very special. Asked to be reseated because first table was next to bathrooms and could hear dishes clanging in kitchen. Servers were young and friendly but inexperienced. Bar service was slow. I see potential here but gotta kick it up a notch to standout in Pittsburgh’s current competitive food scene. So many restaurants, so little time and money.

I love the food here. The paella is just outstanding. The frustration is, and has been several times, the service. We had yet another apathetic server who took 15 minutes just to come say hello after we sat down. It took another 15 for her to bring drinks. The place wasn't that crowded so I couldn't imagine what she was doing... and she must have forgotten to put in both of our paella orders (which take 30 minutes) because we got one and had to wait nearly a half hour for the second. It was awkward to want to eat the food while it was hot in front of our friends whose food wasn't ready. Time to find a wait staff that knows what it's doing, Pallantia. Because at the end of the day, no matter how delicious your offerings, servers who don't care about whom they're serving make the whole experience expensively frustrating.

Everything we ordered was so delicious. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking to try tasty Spanish food with high quality ingredients and pretty authentic flavors. The dishes are beautifully prepared and plated. Their small plates are a very decent size, almost as big as an entree. I absolutely looooved their crispy pork belly and skirt steak dishes. I also recommend the patatas bravas, the shrimp (gambas), and their ham croquettes as appetizers. For dessert, their bread pudding was out of this world. I can’t wait to come back here. This is definitely a neighborhood gem!

Restaurant was understaffed and unprepared for Restaurant Week (they ran out of menu items). Food came out at different times and wasn't as described (paella only had chicken and rice, no chorizo, no seasoning). The two staff working the dining room were terrific and worked hard, shame the food wasn't as good as expected. First course was fantastic and the highlight. Would return, hopefully better prepared on next visit!

My vegetarian friend only had one option for a tapas, and one option for a salad. He LOVED the tofu, and he is a very picky chef. I love meat and Spanish cuisine, am also a chef, and would easily eat the menu. Prices were a little steep, but serving sizes were more generous than a typical tapas plate. I wish they had personal sized paella in small dishes for when its just one carnivore and one vegetarian. My paella needs fish! I just ordered a full one for myself, and can share the rest at home . The Patatas Bravas were smoky w pimiento and a lovely tomato sauce, i dont usually like aioli with bravas but this time it was lovely with the tangy tomato! The paella had a great complexity of flavor that balanced with the fish. I would say the small bay scallops get too soft in the paella broth and could be left out, or I would be happy with one big one per person since there is already a lot of fish. I would suggest this for industry people who seek a filling meal with good cava or spirits.

PROS - The food is outstanding. I always go for the paella which is the most authentic I have had outside of Spain. So tasty with perfect consistency. The tapas were also outstanding - we ordered the bone marrow with black bean hummus which the kids were a little iffy about trying and it was their favorite. The flatbread with serrano ham was delicious. We had a great bottle of Barolo for only $32. CHALLENGES - Not too many people on a Saturday night. There is only one door, no breezeway, which causes the restaurant to be chilly whenever the door opens (it was 5 degrees outside). The service was good mostly because we were her only table. There seems to be indifferent management. They were out of our first wine choice as well as some others. Problematic when you only offer 10-15 choices. The way the tables are arranged is not optimal although there are some that are more intimate. I recommend a booth. There is a TV at the bar. Need to decide whether this is a sports bar or higher end restaurant (especially with the prices). Would be so sad to lose this gem. Some of the best food in the city.

The service was good. Since it is freezing outside this time of year, when people opened and closed the door you immediately felt a draft. Service was good but they were not able to provide to go order bags. They stated they ran out. So people had to carry the actual containers out with no bag.
