Merakia, a word that modern Greeks often use to describe doing something with soul, creativity, and love, is a restaurant that celebrates this rustic style of cooking, known in Greece as a Psistaria, where meats are either grilled or cooked on a spit. Owners Andreas and Renee Typaldos, with their dedicated team, feature items that would make the starving armatoloi freedom fighters proud. My reservation for 3 requested a booth in the back by the fireplace. We were seated instead all the way at the front by the front entrance. We were right under a vent blowing cold air on us all evening (didn’t mind too much since it’s the Summer), but couldn’t have a candle on our table because it kept blowing out. Servers didn’t seem too friendly at first until one of the members of our party engaged them a bit. They seemed most friendly when we were leaving. Decent food and nice ambiance, but likely would not be my first choice to return to.

The food and drinks were unique and amazing. We came to this restaurant during restaurant week - so we chose dishes off the incredibly affordable prefixed menu. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for Mediterranean / greek food in the Flatiron neighborhood.

If you are going there for the spit experience call ahead to check. Supposedly during the summer they don’t do spits. We were disappointed since It’s a menus item they are known for.

My partner were a little bummed about the “Lobster Pasta” wasn’t available because were set on that dish but instead we had the slow cook lamb and salmon which was really good. Bartender made an amazing Berry Knees Martini, DELICIOUS!

There were four of us that went for dinner. Most of us have fish which was beautifully prepared. The grilled vegetables were also excellent. I was surprised that the Branzino didn’t come with vegetables on the side although the salmon did and so did the chicken

Was excited to dine here and then it just seemed like a let down. Wine took 15+min to come out, something happened with our order so it took over an hour for our dinner to come out. The only thing they did was say something happened in the kitchen and that here are some complimentary shots. The food was mediocre and our server seemed like she didn’t know what was happening. Will not be coming back.

Best dining experience since pre-COVID times. The dips appetizer is a must. Filet and salmon cooked perfectly as requested. The vegetarian lasagna is a meal. The service was top notch. From the hostess being a gracious greeter to our server who was magnificent! Would highly recommend for either a small group of 6 or an intimate dinner date.

While everyone was very nice and it’s a very aesthetically attractive place, the waitress didn’t know the menu at all and only stopped by our table once during the meal. We said we’d like the champagne ice cold and were given a chiller that was room temperature so that the champagne was no longer cold half way through the bottle. There were no olives in the Greek salad, though it said there was on the menu. The chicken was dry. I usually don’t leave reviews like this, but the previous reviews were generally positive and the pictures looked cool, which is why I tried it out - but I wish I didn’t.

I’ve been twice now and really like the ambiance of the place. We had a booth that was nice and intimate, the food was delicious, and the service great. While the main dishes are expensive, it’s actually more fun to split small plates, sides and salads anyway! The tuna tartare comes out in dry ice which is always fun and is delicious.

The noise level at Merakia was more than "energetic." It was obnoxious. The crown noise may have been energetic, but the blaring recorded music was obnoxious. We walked in and right back out again.

The ambiance is drop dead gorgeous, the staff is amazing, the food was delicious. The lamb was a bit dry, but everything else was amazing. Highly recommend the freshly baked pita and all the dips, the grilled octopus and branzino!

Wonderful food and kind and attentive service. There is also a dry ice machine that they turn on periodically to provide a mysterious vibe. Highly recommend the slow cooked lamb- delicious!

Restaurant was beautiful , food was good but not necessarily spectacular. Ambiance was nice , dim lit, romantic. But the server kept coming up asking us if we were done. Our plates weren’t even halfway through. At one point while we were having dessert one of us got up and the waiter came back and literally took his plate away. Half of the baklava was still on there. We had to request him to put it back on the table!! Not sure what the rush was for. Restaurant was not full and there were plenty of tables. We were quite disappointed with the service. Place is expensive so it shouldn’t be rushed.

The place is truly beautiful. The apetizers were delicious. The lamb came a little cold. In regards of deserts, I do not know if we made wrong choice but were not apetizing and sprinkled with to much cinnamon. One of the the deserts looked more like two pieces of cookies and was stale. That is why I took off one star. Overall it is a great place.
