House of Prime Rib
Monday - Thursday, 5:30pm - 10:00pm
Friday, 5:00pm - 10:00pm
Saturday & Sunday, 4:00pm - 10:00pm
A classy, old school joint I hope never changes or goes away. I'd probably eat there once a month if I could. I'd at least be at the bar once a week getting a $13 shaker full of martini. Went all in with the juicy king cut this time. Pushed my belt to the limit, but I finished everything that was served.
It was my boyfriend’s annual birthday dinner at HOPR. His favorite place.
Except for the on-going, constant construction on Van Ness Ave, all was great. Suggest taking public transportation to get to the restaurant. We did and it worked out well. Our arrival was plenty early at around 5:25 for our 6:00 reservation, not knowing how public transportation would work. Reservations are absolutely necessary. Seating/serving began at 5:30. We were seated about 5:45. Bar was packed full on the Wed night. Service was outstanding; even when they tried to seat us at a table very near the entrance and we asked to be moved, we were accommodated. Food was outstanding, too. House was very full we left. Will return for special dinners.
I love going to HOPR, been going for years and years!!!
Me and my mom was there on a Tuesday, got seated right away. Big PLUS. Service was fast and efficient. Big Plus!
However, when it is time for the meat - Me and my mom both have the King Henry VIII cut, I had it rare and my mom has it medium rare. And on the first bite, something seemed off. My rare King Henry cut was more chewy than usual. Though it is still flavorful, the meat is still too chewy, which was difficult for me since I have weak teeth. My mom who order an medium rare, not only her cut was solid but the meat was wayyyy more tender. I think we might have a quality control issue with all of the standing prime rib being roast at the same time.
Semi disappointed, wish it could be better next time.
Absolute fantastic and iconic restaurant in SF. Word of caution, you need to book 4-6 months in advance if you want your choice of day / time. This was my 3rd visit in 10 years and LUCKY to find only 1 time available in the 3 days I was in the Bay Area and I looked 3 months in advance. You might get lucky by just showing up after 7 or 8 PM if it is 2 people or so.
Service is amazing, so expect to tip 30% or more (tip does not just go to waiter, several staff serve you).
Another great visit to HOPR!
Everything was delicious. From the salad to the prime rib.
Table for four adults. Small booth with vinyl seats, dividing wall tight to wobbly table so no room to move. Restaurant was extremely warm as well which made it even more uncomfortable. Food is what you would expect but note to people of height, width or athletic build make sure you don’t get a booth if you are a party of 4.
Best deal in town!
The Prime Rib is delicious, however don't waste your money on the Large Cut Bone In Prime Rib. You'll receive a large bone and a thin cut of prime rib; definitly not worth the extra expence. In the future I'll order a small cut and get the same size portion of meat as with the Bone In. Also, keep a mind this establishment is know as a bit of a tourist trap.
Family visiting from out of town
Great food, even better than I remembered. Not sure if they read the requests section at all -- I specified that it was our anniversary, but it was never mentioned or noted, not even on our dessert. Lots of celebrations all around us, multiple birthday parties, etc. Service was great, but a bit uneven at times. For instance, for one party nearby, the waiter took their family photo and printed it out! Another ended up with the song only. Not sure why every group wasn't treated the same.
We enjoyed the great service and even had our almost 2 year old with us. He really liked the prime rib, so we know he has good taste! The wait staff was kind to all of us even though it turned into an almost 2 hr event.
Must make reservations in advance -- the wait even at 5:30 pm looked quite long.
First time here, loved the ambience and decor. It was busy, but with the lay out we felt very comfortable with our table for 2. Other places can feel cramped when busy, this place was the opposite. Made a reservation online, showed up 15 mins early and we were seated immediately! Food was delicious, sides were good. Would have liked to have a soup option instead of salad, but thats not what you come here for. The Prime Rib is the star and it is very good. Need to make an encore trip soon!
We made a reservation a few months in advance for a Friday night dinner. After checking in with the host, there was a cozy lounge with plenty of seating and a fireplace to enjoy pre-dinner cocktails or wine. The server took our drink orders and added to our dinner bill, which was great to not have to deal with payments! Beautiful old restaurant with wood decor, linens and all the elements of fine dining, but had the special feeling of a neighborhood restaurant. Dinner service was efficient and quick, but not rushed. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion, though note the menu is simple and their main course is prime rib.
We were a group of 8. Our waitress was awesome! Answered our questions and was very engaging. She made us feel welcomed! Food was delicious! From the salad to the cream of spinach! My prime rib was perfect.
So great in every respect for so many years. AOur waiter this year was also very special
Amazing experience from service to food!
Food was excellent as always!! Service is good but feels very rushed.
We have gone to HOPM occasionally since the 60s. We are San Francisco residents. We always knew the experience was going to be expensive, but we expected a wonderful experience, that expectation was not met. The wait staff were competent and attentive. The salad came from a huge vat of chopped greens, the table side show was a farce, chopped greens, dressed with a commercially bottled dressing, tossed with flair but without purpose, which didn’t add to the quality. The meat was not carved from the cart but was unceremoniously plopped on the table already cut. The meat on both our plates was the exact same doneness. I ordered rare, my wife ordered medium rare and the cuts were exactly the same.
You’ve blown it, I will share my experience with all of my friends and suggest we go to Izzy’s.
A nice experience to have delectable prime rib and all the sides .
The food was amazing as always but the only negative was our server, he kept forgetting to bring our drink order. Other then that it was great.
Always a fun place to visit. Good food, friendly staff. Fun bar and good drinks.
Best prime rib you’ll ever have!!
Love this place so much. One of the favorite place to dine in with friends. Excellent service, atmosphere, and the prime ribs are beyond words.
Outrageous food and service. Always a great meal.
I've been a customer since the 80' s the food is always great and service is excellent. The wine list is the best part not over price, we ordered a bottle of Silver Oak Napa Cab for $175.00 and it paired well with the prime rib.
Hands down the best prime rib in town, and our family had a wonderful time. Two kids loved it as much as their mommy.
Quality service and food was excellent! Prime rib was cooked perfected, juicy and tender
My first time at House of Prime Rib was a very special and memorable experience. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 2 year anniversary and he has always wanted to come here with me. Everything went smooth from the valet parking to great service / servers and delicious meal. I ordered the English cut and my boyfriend ordered the King Henry. We also ordered a New York Cheesecake, and it was wonderful. My expectations were met! Will definitely be back.
I have been coming here for over 30 years and my wife has been coming in excess of 50 years. The prime rib is consistently excellent. Throughout the years there have been several changes, some for the better, some not. If I was asked what they could do differently, bring back to white and pink fluffy horseradish, and the long gone sherry pudding. FYI, nobody leaves this restaurant hungry!! This past visit was in celebration of my grandson's birthday, part the next generation of future customers.
House of Prime Rib is always my first choice for Prime Rib! The meat is delicious, soft and tender.... Excellent.
I love the House of Prime Rib. My favorite Restaurant
Everything was great as always!
Sean is amazing. Best sommelier ever!
Always a treat to go here and hangout with friends. Always a great value and atmosphere. You definitely will not leave hungry.
Just such a great time every time we go. The staff and food are amazing.
I told them it was my husband's Birthday when making the reservation. When I got the reminder phone call the day before, regarding my res, the girl even asked for the name of the person celebrating a bday. I told her but on the night of our dinner, the bday was never acknowledged.
Also, we had reservations for 7 and got to the restaurant around 6:40. We weren’t seated until 7:20.
