B&G Oysters is a modern yet classic take on the oyster bar. Located in Boston's South End, B&G Oysters has a decidedly neighborhood feel, combining polished but friendly service with fantastically fresh seafood dishes and food-friendly wines. The cuisine and wine program have received many accolades over the years, including Best Seafood by Boston Magazine.

Please note that much of our seating is outdoors and weather dependent; in the event of inclement weather, we may not be able to honor outdoor reservations and will reach out to all guests if we are not able to seat the patio. Food all very good. Service friendly and top notch. We had clam chowder, oysters (yum), special of the night (a dish containing clams, half lobster, mussels, sausages, potatoes and corn. The sauce was ever so delicious) and lobster roll. Would recommend for a night out with very good food.

This restaurant was a nice spot for dinner. It's in a half-basement, so there isn't much of a view, and when it gets crowded, the low ceilings make it pretty noisy. But overall, it's still a good place. The best part of our meal was the chowder. Everyone said it was excellent, and we thought the same. For our main course, we shared a seafood bake. It turned out to be more like "half a lobster with clams" than what we expected. However, we enjoyed it a lot, even though it was different from what we thought we'd get.

Best dinner I had all summer! The warm lobster roll was to die for and both the seasonal vegetables and burrata salad with tomatoes and watermelon were outstanding.

What happened to B&G? This was one of my go-to great seafood spots in town. Met up with a colleague from Shanghai and wanted to show off South End neighborhood gems. Turned out to be so disappointing with tiny portions given the price knocking on $40/dish ... the 'signature' lobster roll was filled with mayo and celery, with bits of small legs and knuckles and couple of tail meat chunks (I counted!), with two big bites and the small hot-dog roll with barely any lobster meat is gone! The halibut was fresh but looks to be half-size of what it used to be. On a beautiful and warm summer-like Sunday evening to eat out and most tables were empty... so sad! What ever happened to the great old B&G? Sigh ....

All appetizers excellent - calamari, Ipswich clams, oysters. Fish and chips, especially the fried fish, should be served straight from the fryer without sitting around to get soggy. Better to use same batter as the fried clams or calamari.

Been going for some time now, from out of town and am usually very happy. Staff seems to have changed. Place is not as busy. Staff service isn’t bad, but isn’t as good and they seem to have no manager.

Food was outstanding. I was in town alone and sat at the bar. The server could have made a better attempt to engage as it wasn't that busy since it was earlier in the evening. Wasn't that big of a deal but the oysters and friend claims were fabulous!

This is a great restaurant. One annoyance that I'm struggling with and would be remiss if I didn't mention. One of the items on the menu is entitled "Lobster Tails". When it comes, it's a single lobster tail. When I inquired about the odd, if not misleading, plural use of term "Tails", the server said that the food preparer normally cuts the tail into two pieces and didnt do that this time. That would have been an unsatisfactory answer if it didn't provide such humor. Aside from that everything was great and we will be back.

We sat outside on the patio under an arbor of trees. It was very nice. The waitress was great -- very helpful and knowledgeable about the wine list. My friend and I shared a snap pea salad with almonds and almond dressing. It was delicious and definitely big enough to share. I had the fried clams -- a favorite of mine that I rarely have. My friend had the swordfish. Both were outstanding. The prices were not nearly as high as we had anticipated. All in all a great experience.

It was a hot day and the AC was clearly not working . People were sweating at their tables and there weren’t enough servers that day. We are regulars here but had not seen such slow service . We had to ask for our shrimp cocktail twice before they brought it out . We decided to leave and not order our main dishes . Might want to rethink the AC situation as well as getting more staff for the inside area . There was only one server .

Good quality food, but expensive as compared with other places nearby. Everything was good, but not exceptional or special. Also, it was not crowded at all and there were plenty of staff, but we had to flag people down a couple of times for water, the check etc..

The service was okay and they brought over flutes of Prosecco when we sat down as I had mentioned it was an anniversary. And the food was generally tasty. However, some of the prices were rather ridiculous. $7.50 for a single, tiny crab claw with less than an ounce of meat in it?! $30 for a single lobster tail?! The atmosphere was pretty flat and we kept looking around to see if they were closing up or something. Very different from the previous times we were there. Long story short, I suppose we should have gotten up and left or done a bit more research beforehand instead of relying on our prior experiences.

Atmosphere and location were nice but food was underwhelming especially given the price. Branzino was unfortunately quite dry/over cooked and the mussels had little meat on them. Crab claws were small with no cracker to actually open them!

Cute, cozy place but very hot! The AC was not doing a good job and it was very uncomfortable. Wait satff were great. The food was fair. Watermelon salad was great but the lobster roll was small and was marinaded in something instead of a mayonaise base. I did not enjoy it. Fish was good but the sweet potato puree was tasteless.

Disappointing. Last May we visited and had a wonderful time. Apparently the restaurant has skidded way down the greasy, disgusting spiral staircase that leads to the bathroom. Sad and unfortunate.

Great selection of very fresh shellfish from good provenance. Ordered both the cold and hot lobster rolls which were both fantastic. Wait staff was extremely knowledgeable and made great recommendations. There are reasonably priced wines in addition to a good selection of pricier items. Had a nice discussion with the GM of the restaurant at the end of our meal. From out of town, have visited before and will return next time we are in Boston.

I was in town on business for just one night and wanted some classic New England seafood. B&G delivered big time. The oysters were perfectly fresh, the fried clams were flawlessly executed, and the Lobster role exactly as it should be. I should add that thet the service was friendly and attentive. The little South End spot is a gem!

Asked about dry minerally wine by the glass, tried the choices on the menu (one was Alvarinho from Portugal). None very distinctive but settled for a dull Alvarinho. Then the waiter offered a Sancerre by the glass that was on special to a table that asked about Sauvignon. So we missed the chance to have the Sancerre. Otherwise very good experience.

I’ve eaten here probably 15 times or so as it’s a “go to” when I’m in Boston. I’ve never had a bad experience until last night - across the board. First, the AC was either not working or they’d turned it off (although why they’d do that is beyond me) and second, they put us at one of the hottest tables in the restaurant. Next, our waiter was inattentive as he probably figured we’d be a small bill…I was with my grandson. We’d asked for bread, it never came and he just seemed disinterested overall. Lastly, the food, while still good, has slipped a notch and the prices have gone way up. It’s not a bad place, just not nearly what it used to be.

We went for lunch during restaurant week. We were warmly greeted and seated on the patio. We wanted a drink with lunch, but the choices were limited to two pre mixed cocktails , a few varied cans of beer or wine.The clam chowder was delicious, creamy with plenty of clams, lean lardons of bacon, and some homemade spicy croutons.My entree of moule frites was disappointing in that the mussels were very small and swimming in a watery broth, My companion had roasted salmon, which she said was perfectly done.The fries were tasty but served lukewarm. Dessert was a delicious, chocolate mousse and vanilla panna cotta...The waitstaff worked well together to deliver our various courses. All in all, a nice experience.

This restaurant is WAY overpriced! We paid $44 for a lobster roll and a ton of French fries. Food was okay. We opted to sit inside, because it was a very hot day. It was hotter inside than it was outside.

The quality here is always good. We got the Sea Bass and the Halibut and both were solid dishes. I notice the lobster roll seems to have gotten smaller than I remember and $42 is pushing it a bit in my opinion. We sat outside which is usually nice, but they booked a large party out there who were extremely loud, so most other guests had a hard time hearing each other. The service last night was also lacking. Not sure if it was due to the large party. I'll be back but if this was my first time here, I am not sure it would have made a good impression.

Service was lacking. Our original server was overwhelmed and unable to attend to us. They were also cursing and arguing with kitchen staff (open kitchen)- not cute. We sat at the bar area and were promptly provided waters but patiently waited 10-15 min before another server was eventually assigned to us and took our drink/food orders. Overall, extremely overpriced! Food wasn’t outstanding for that price point. I did enjoy my meal, but my friends ordered the lobster BLT which had overripe tomatoes and soggy bread. We have been to far better seafood establishments. Would not go here again.
