Our menu brings together a mélange of flavors, textures and contrasts. The menu brings together influences of Jay’s Indian origin and features his mom’s homemade naan recipe made one at a time on a cast iron skillet, Scott’s upbringing around country cooking and our friend Chef Eve’s childhood memories of the spice markets in Jerusalem, growing up around vibrant flavors of Cuban cooking in Miami, and her culinary training in France.

My favorite Ann Arbor eatery by far. Thank you for a lovely evening.
My husband, our college daughter, and I had a great time with a late dinner after the football game in Ann Arbor. Our waitress was lovely (law student!) as was the manager, I believe his name is Scott. I originally made a reservation just for two, thinking my daughter would be out with friends, but I think she realized a nice (paid for) dinner with Mom and Dad was better than a fraternity party that night, and she'd still have time to hang out with friends after dinner. Scott was kind enough to take my poor-reception call from The Big House (stadium) during the game and help me fit our daughter into the reservation on the very busy Penn State game night. He moved it half an hour later. We ended up needing that extra time, anyway. The food was delicious--we ordered two of the Cool Weather Salads because we liked the first so much. A mushroom pasta was a hit, as were the halibut and steak plates. We finished with an espresso flan for a shared dessert. They serve larger-sized plates to share. We will definitely be back! Thank you for a wonderful first visit!
You absolutely have to have the duck nachos - they are amazing! My mushroom pasta was more like a mac and cheese and I was expecting a more classic preparation with a subtler cream sauce. Ambiance is fantastic. I would highly recommend
The decor is minimalist, clean, fresh and contemporary. The wine list is nice. The wait staff is friendly and the service was superb. The manager offered us complementary desserts in celebration of our wedding anniversary. The menu and presentation are upscale. This was our first experience here and would definitely return for a special occasion.
We absolutely love this place. It’s a hidden gem in Ann Arbor Michigan! Live bands are great! Will definitely go often!
We are vegan and love a restaurant we can go to with our non-vegan friends and still have a great option for us. Have been here twice and we love the vegan dish.
My new favorite Ann Arbor restaurant! We had a great meal and great service in the former Melange. It's been nicely updated. My husband had a lamb shank over Indian-spiced vegetable stew which he said was excellent. My friend had the same, except she chose the vegetarian option which replaced the lamb with roasted cauliflower (also excellent, and quite a bit cheaper). I couldn't resist the Vegan Flavor Explosion! in large part because of the name and yes, it has an exclamation point. If you like tofu it was very flavorful and delicious. I would go back just for that! The plate had stir-fried tofu, bulgur, and spicy braised greens, each presented separately and each well-prepared on its own, but best eaten all together. We finished the dinner with an apple/pear/cherry crumble which was a great ending to a great evening. Service was fantastic -- knowledgeable, friendly and responsive.
A nice addition to the Ann Arbor restaurant scene. The decor is soothing and casually, quietly elegant. Food quality and preparation is excellent. Fairly limited menu. Some of the Indian did/spice ideas are so-so. Expensive, but worth it.
We went here for our anniversary recently, and were really happy with our visit. We've been fans of Eve A. for a long time and both think Dessous is another great restaurant in the spirit of flavor, interesting combinations, and overall warm feeling. We can't afford to eat out at this level very often, but we'll be back the next time we have a special occasion to celebrate or close friends visiting from out of state.
Great food and service
Food was well prepared, but nearly all dishes were luke warm (but not intended to be) by the time they were served. Service was just okay. Atmosphere is pleasant but decor is odd; feels like a throw back to the '80s. A lot of interesting menu options and an excellent wine list.
We love Dessous whether we are eating inside or on the street! Just the very best food every time! Appetizers are excellent!
The food, drinks and service are the main star at dessous. The ambiance and style, are a bit cold - but that is what the restaurant was going for. Much of the food is Indian influenced, which was great with me. Excellent, unique upscale dining option for Ann Arbor - outside the normal steakhouse/seafood restaurant that is found there.
Wonderful music (live jazz in bar) to accompany our meal! Great food, service and elderberry sorbet dessert is showstopper. Elegant evening.
20 year college reunion and staff treated our party of 10 to a complementary champagne toast!
The food is delicious. A wonderful mix of Indian and French flavors.
Food promising. Too much a scene. Music decor.
Skews young with cocktail scene. Sorry
Best meal we've had in Ann Arbor in quite a while. The standard has been raised. A very welcome addition. We will be back often.
We had the caesar salad/white anchovies (spicy, delicious); shellfish ceviche/spiced popcorn and seabass/ bok choy (so luscious). The bread service is homemade naan/spiced butter. Ambience is serene; music is mellow; desserts sound divine. We're bringing our friends back in 2 days.
It was that good.
Arrived for a nice meal, dressed for a nice restaurant. Sat and ordered a chardonnay, bad selection of by the glass with no price variety, if you want to have a high end restaurant at least have a couple of higher end bottles in your by the glass section, most expensive chardonnay they had, not every couple is going to want to order a bottle. So their most expensive white is carpe diem a bottle that goes for about $19 at any liquour store.
My fiancee ordered a cocktail, the "black cactus" their cocktails are designed to sound amazing using the eccentric versions of things, but unfortunately the cheap version of any eccentric. Think of drinks you would be really proud to serve at a frat mixer. Cheap booze hidden with overly sweet mixers.
We ordered our appetizers and food when our drinks arrived, an hour later 9ur drinks were empty, our appetizer plate had been gone for 20 minutes and still no entrees.
Our waitress never came back to offer more drinks or let us know our food might be out eventually. The restaurant was empty and I have no idea what she was doing.
I was about to leave and eat elsewhere when we were finally brought our food. My magi looked like it had been reheated and I imagine the hold up was the lamb.
Dont come here and think you are going to have a fine dining experience.
Best part of the dinner was customer service. One of our dinners (4 people) was extremely delayed, and when we got the meal it had to be sent back to be cooked some more. Both the waiter and manager came over numerous times to apologize and didn’t not charge us for the late meal and also offered complimentary dessert for the table. I have never been to a restaurant where they were so proactive in correcting a bad situation. We didn’t have any need to complain because of how quickly they took care of things. Service was outstanding... I wish restaurants took the time
and effort to make sure diners left with a positive experience... many could learn from Dessous. Thank you again. Will definitely be back.
I hosted a business guest from out of town and wanted a dinner location that would not only impress my guest, but represent the livelihood of Ann Arbor. Dessous exceeded my expectations and were very helpful with U of M company card guidelines.
Looking forward to booking with them again!
Excellent ambiance, service and food! Not a ton of choices on the menu but enough variety. Will definitely come back to try the appetizers and desserts. The dinner portions are not too large which was good:) Had enough room to sample the complimentary naan bread with the spiced butter (the best naan ever!) and a dessert too:) We were there at 5:00pm so we practically had the place to ourselves. I'm sure it gets more lively as the evening goes on. I thought the noise level was very low - easy to talk to friends.
Great food and service. Loved the cocktail, nann, salad and scallops.
Duck confit nachos=yum!! Don’t miss these. Great cocktails. Sea bass was thick and delicious. Brussel sprouts were underdone but the steak was good. Vegetarian plate was generous and tasty. I would go again!
Great vibe, good food, and good cocktails. Service was OK--some minor issues with our bill but generally attentive. A little disappointed with seating considering we made a reservation, but the overall experience was good.
Food was great. Service was terrible. We waited 15 minutes For someone to take our drink orders and then another 10 minutes to receive our drinks. We understand that fine dining is slower paced but we were basically ignored by our waiter. The manager did come over to apologize but still no one cleared our plates and service continued to be bad. I would not recommend this place until service improves. That said, the food was good.
Besitos Calientitos drink is simply delicious!!!!!
Very unique flavor with Indian spice for the dishes we ordered (lamb shank, vegan explosion). Environment is very quiet and comfortable. Service was outstanding! If you want to try creative cuisine, this is the place!
Wonderful food and atmosphere. They were short handed and service was slow. Management was very apologetic.
Service was awful. It took forever to order and then to get the food and drink. Scott, the manager, kept coming over and apologizing. Server very nice but unavailable. Food was tasty but most dishes had spice and something like sea bass is probably better with a milder seasoning. Still love the duck nachos that Melange had and it is on the current menu.
Fine dining in a laid back atmosphere. One of the best dining experiences Ann Arbor has to offer. Best service I’ve had anywhere. We had the duck nachos, scallops, and sea bass. To say each was unique and delicious would be an understatement.
We had a delightful dinner at dessous. The dining area is very attractive and inviting. The food and cocktails were very good. We appreciated the innovative cuisine. As a new restaurant, it is ironing out its service. GM Scott was attentive and went out of his way to help staff serve us in a more timely way. I definitely plan to return and to inform friends about dessous. If you liked eve and Kerrytown Bistro, here is a new opportunity to have a high-quality dining experience in Ann Arbor.
Wow! What a wonderful experience. The menu was truly inventive with locally sourced ingredients and honoring of the season. The service was outstanding and definitely a place to revisit next time in Ann Arbor
Great to have Eve back in this kind of restaurant setting. The menu is excellent; and the kitchen strong. The service was attentive, but very inexperienced (unsure how to pour wine, salad and main served at same time). Worth a visit!
Incredible food and service in a town already populated with fantastic restaurants. Bold combinations of ingredients produce harmoniously flavorful dishes, with great subtleties. We had the caesar salad, Spanish eggs, lamb, and spaccatelli - all wowed us with perfect flavor and execution. The blood orange mojito is outstanding, as well. I had high hopes for Eve Aronoff's latest venture, and was not disappointed!
We didnt realize it was so beautiful inside, it looked fancy but it felt warm and comfy. Came for a birthday dinner and had melted butter on Naan, and then Avocado Naan, Seabass was incredible, my girlfriend melted when the Lamb voluntarily fell off the shank. Come here, have an amazing time, repeat. Our server, Carissa, was great. Wine list is great, wine storage room is awesome.
Love Eve's food. It was all perfectly cooked, had the right amount of spices and tasted great. Jacob and Scott were also great helping out with our table.
Anna was a great server! She was very personable and friendly. Her recommendations were good for everyone. The food tasted phenomenal.
We went to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The service was outstanding, making us feel special. The food was amazing!
