THE AFTERNOON TEA St. Regis Afternoon Tea HISTORY OF AFTERNOON TEA Caroline Astor, the hotel’s matriarch and Grand Dame of New York Society brought the ritual of Afternoon Tea to The St. Regis New York. Each afternoon, Mrs. Astor would invite a select few of her closest friends into her drawing room to catch up on the latest gossip behind closed doors and always over a decadent selection of sandwiches, cakes and pastries. Today, this ritual has become a signature St. Regis tradition.

Lovely experience all the way around. Service amazing. High tea was fabulous. I ordered the gluten free option, hoping the bread would not be stale, and to my pleasure, it was incredibly moist as were the gluten free scones. Desserts were top notch. Ambience was elegant and noise level low, great for an extended afternoon with my husband. To top off the experience, we were treated to anniversary crème brûlée on the house. We will be back!

Staff were amazing and went above and behond to make it a special birthday celebration for my great nephew. We didn’t want to complain but breakfast missed the mark. 3 of us were ery disappointed by over cooked eggs. The corned beef hash was supposed to be eggs over easy. They were cooked well and hash was very dry. The other two egg orders were supposed to be over medium once again they were cooked well yolk dried out. Dinner Sat night was amazing.

Pre paid afternoon tea was one of the most expensive we have ever had and definitely the worst. From when we arrived and we’re ignored while staff continues their conversation to when we left 1 hour later the whole experience was disappointing. The water server was the only person who engaged with us. Our order was taken for tea preference and when it came it had brewed too long. The Earl Grey had stewed to a breakfast tea colour. The sandwiches - 4 small fingers were lost on the bottom tier of a large cake stand. They were the high point of the whole service. Lackluster pastries included a chocolate mouse, blueberry tart, lemon meringue, and a cheesecake - all grocery store quality. 2 sry scones topped off the too large cake stand. Waiter never asked if everything was ok or if we were happy. Guess he didn’t care as the tip was included.

Extremely overpriced. A cappuccino $14.00 Pellegrino $15.00 Beautiful place just not necessary to rip off the clientele on the little things. Charge for the entrees but the water?

Amazing!!! From the hostess to Mohammad & John they were all exceptional. I will certainly return. Unfortunately, the griddle wasn’t working so I couldn’t get what I actually came there for but Mohammad made it all worth while by the way he treated me. They made an effort to remember my name and was kind enough to take a few pictures of me which can be annoying for some servers during busy moments.

Food, service, and environment are great. Only thing I am not happy is the sever ask us whether want coffee and orange juice prior to the ordering. In the end, both coffee and orange juice are charged for per person price.

All was fine except for one poor waiter who was overwhelmed with customers and tables. It took a very long time even to receive our drink order. We had to leave our food uneaten to catch our 8:00 Broadway show. It ruined our experience because we could see that we would not have enough time to enjoy our meal or the cake that the hotel had arranged for my daughter’s birthday. We could see that the waitstaff was really trying to keep up. Uncomfortable for all, and an expensive bill at the end to show for an unenjoyable meal. We would give the restaurant another shot but, plan at least three hours before a show to allow adequate time to enjoy.

After being seated by a very “grumpy” host for dinner,we reviewed the uninspired menu that was servings mostly burgers and sandwiches (Cheeseburger, BLT and Pastrami) the menus had limited options and felt more like a low to mid-level lunch menu rather than a dinner menu at one of the most storied 5-star hospitality brands of all time (St Regis) all while charging 5-star prices. After reviewing the menu (or lack thereof) we left without ordering and were able to book at a restaurant a 2min walk away where we enjoyed a lovely 6-course chef’s menu with a beautiful wine pairing. Will be avoiding Astor Court for all future trips to St Regis NYC.

When I searched for a ‘high tea’ in Manhattan, Astor Court came up. We were given a standard lunch menu upon our arrival. The food was good albeit way overpriced. The service was very slow. The location was great and the space visually pleasing. Again, the food was tasty, but incredibly overpriced. For that reason and the very slow service, I wouldn’t recommend.

The staff and service, ambiance and vibe, were excellent. However, the food was mediocre, room temperature, and courses were served too quickly. I also question why guests were allowed to dine during the New Years Eve event in jeans and sweatshirts when the reservation said formal and most were wearing tuxes, suits, or gowns. Though disappointed — knowing this was not typical for the restaurant I would still go there again in the future.

We had a dinner for christmas eve and it was horrible. First of all, no one informed us prior to booking that it would be prefix menu with 3 courses. Secondly, the service was slow, the server did not understand anything we were saying, and our appetizer (risotto) was over cooked. They offered us a round of champagne (which was nice), but the dinner was definitely not worth 225$/person. We told the server at the end to bring the check soon as we were in a rush for christmas eve service, but they took too long.

We waited a long time for our 3:30 reservation then given an undesirable table. Host had an attitude so she wasn’t helpful. Service sucked. We had to ask for everything. Food was mediocre for the price. We enjoyed Old King Cole Bar much better - which was crowded, loud and we didn’t eat anything but it was a festive scene. Astor Court is dated and understaffed and employees were flustered.

Festive place for Xmas, but unfortunately the food was not that good. Hit or miss. Stale bread on tea sandwiches, some pastries also stale, others good. Tea order also mixed up and generally very slow service as they simply did not have enough help for a full restaurant. Main issue is really the food though, they need to vastly improve the quality for the price -- too many other options that are much better in NYC.

This was for afternoon tea: service was *terrble*. No wait staff came to my table; I had to hail someone to order my tea, which occurred 35 minutes after I arrived; I was very patient up until then. After numerous complaints/requests, I finally received my order 55 minutes after I was initially seated, and it was not what I had ordered! N.B. This reservation was both pre-paid and *PRE-ORDERED* as was required for afternoon tea! It should have been ready and waiting when I arrived. My previous ex-periences at the Astor Court have all been very good to excellent, so this was an ob- vious glitch, but, they were very disorganized!

We were so excited for high tea here - but it was very disappointing. Waited 30+ minutes past our reservation time, and then sat for an additional 15 mins before getting greeted. We were sitting for 30 mins before water was poured. It was busy, and maybe this was an “off” day, for staff but for a couple of hungry people, this was not ideal. The presentation of the food was very cute and chic, however the scones had clearly been microwaved as they arrived warm and within 10 mins were hard as rocks, the cookies came out of a box and were super generic. The sandwiches were not good. The bread was either old and hard, or old and soggy. Tasted stale and old, you know the taste of stale bread. The chef came out checking on tables, which was very nice, so I informed him that it was not good. He was perplexed saying “the bread came in yesterday, and the sandwiches have been covered all day” well - if that doesn’t explain it I don’t know what will. You’re charging $115 per person for day old bread and sandwiches that have been made hours earlier, not freshly made, and have been on a tray “covered” all day. Hmm! Anywho, it was very disappointing, and now both of us are feeling unwell…probably the worst high tea experience I’ve had. We love high tea and have had it in multiple countries, I was really expecting better from the St. Regis!

The Astor Court ambulance is amazing and truly a remarkable place, however, my experience was not matched by their service and quality. Upon arrival, I waited at the host front desk for over 10 minutes without a greeting or any hostess. I had a reservation and still was not met by anyone until I found a waiter to seat us. After another 15mins , I was finally met with a waiter to get wine and food selection. Once the wine bottle was delivered, the service dropped the bottle and poured out 1/4 of it and said it was fine, but was still charged full price. After 3 hours at the restaurant, our table was met 4 times by a waiter with no follow up on the services, any refills or even a check. I again had to ask another waiter for a check since nobody wanted to serve. For a restaurant that is upscale and located in the St. Regis , the quality and services was unacceptable.
