I love everything about this place. The music is always great- more energetic blues or jazz I think and the decor has a great old school vibe. The food is always amazing and the other diners are usually a good chat as well.

At the last minute, we decided to go out for dinner on NYE. We'd never been to Hatchet Hall, but the menu looked interesting and it received good reviews. It's got a really cool vibe with mismatched china and light strands hanging over the outside patio (with lots of heaters, thankfully!) My husband normally doesn't like Prix Fixe menus, but HH's menu included some of their most popular items. The standouts: Sweet potato rolls, caesar salad, scallops, King Ora Salmon and the Octopus (although the octopus was warm and the beans were cold — not good!). We will definitely be back!

Used to love this place. Been coming here for the past almost 4 yrs. service has definitely changed and dropped. Food also not as good as used to be. Sucks... I really did like this place

Dropped by for my Birthday dinner with my wife. Service was great, food was great. Only issue was the music volume. Besides the fact that I didn't like the selection, it was just too loud. We, and other guests, had to raise our voices to have a conversation or speak to the waiter. Dropped into the back bar after dinner. Strangely enough, they didn't have the whisky selection from the dining room (?) but...the bartender slipped out and came back with a bottle for me. Wonderful service.

One of the best restaurants in LA - great atmosphere and a wonderfully creative and well-executed small-plates menu. Probably not fully recognized due to its absolute lack of curb appeal and marginal (not in a trendy way) location.

Took my friend here for her birthday. We had reservations near opening time. It was empty. The hostess sat us down and 3 min later, sat two other parties on either side of us like a pack of sardines. There were plenty of other tables open else where. The music was so loud! I asked if they could turn it down so I could hear my friend talking, and the waiter basically told me I would get used to it, and refused my request. Not only was it so loud, it was very dark. You could not see the menu or food. We had to take out our flashlights. Food was fine, nothing to write home about, and on the pricer side. Everything we ordered sorta had the same flavors. When the dessert came out, they didn't even put a candle on the cake for her. I wrote on my reservation this was a birthday celebration. Obviously they did not care to relay this to the waiter. I would not recommend this place for a date night or get together, well unless of course you don't mind screaming at each other over dinner.

Thank you fo such amazing dinner. The duck confit and rabbit schnitzel - awesome!!! Inside the restaurant too noisy, but outside is. Perfect for a romantic date. I didn’t expect it, but our experience was so good! We will comeback soon)

This is a hidden gem! Began with a perfect Manhattan, followed by the must-have sweet potato rolls, excellent scallop special, seasonally delicious persimmon & arugula salad, then shared the pork and lamb - both of which were juicy and very tasty. The wine list is a bit eclectic but found a great Tempranillo to complement the meal! And don't forget to pop into the Old Man Bar for a nightcap, a classic whiskey joint with antlers and animal heads mounted on the walls. Will definitely go back!

The food is very, very tasty, but the amount of salt and fat in certain items is a little concerning. The wheat rolls are superb. Rabbit was awesome.Enjoyed the Oregon Albacore. Who knows what newer items will be on the menu as it changes constantly. The noise level inside was almost unbearable for older folks with any difficulty hearing. The patio is much better for noise level. Old Man's Bar is fabulous and cozy.

They change the menu daily so the online menu is not representative of what's actually available. I was disappointed in the size of the portions for the cost. It's fine dining prices in a funky, casual setting. I won't be back.

Best birthday dinner!! So happy the chop steak is always available. It really should be on the menu all year round — it’s my absolute favorite. The pork chops were redeemed this time around (over cooked the last time). Glad we gave it another go. Service was impeccable as usual. Thank you!

We loved it but the restaurant noise level is deafening. We had to sit on the patio under heaters, so parts of us were too warm, other body parts not warm enough, because it was a cold night. But the cuisine is fantastic. And we loved the wait staff.

I like Hatchet Hall, but the noise level inside makes it difficult to host a group larger than 4 people. However, outside is perfectly fine. We had a group of 6 and it was easy to talk on the patio. The food is very good with fair sized portions (be careful you don't order too much) and creative. The white cornbread is awesome. The mixed drinks are good, but they don't have proper martini glasses, always a negative. The service was excellent and our waiter was good about reducing orders when he felt we were getting too many dishes of the same type to share.

Excellent cocktail selection - with great Old Fashions. Menu is eclectic but should be able to find something for everyone (though probably not much for kids). Menu works best if you share. Had lamb and duck dishes - both very good. Service was a bit slow but restaurant was hopping for a Monday night. Gave us free dessert without our complaining - so kudos for awareness. Highly recommend

Enjoyed the family style meal. There are some restaurants you go to and you immediately think you can eat everything on the menu. Others you look and say "really"? This place is the latter. But everything on the menu is absolutely delicious. So don't be afraid to order something you might not otherwise. You will be pleased. And don't miss the cornbread.
