Lovely setting for a special occasion - outstanding service.
You're paying for the hyped up ski atmosphere, not the food. It was mediocre at best and the wine was terrible.
You can easily spend $200 for a four course meal and a couple of drinks here. That said, the food was absolutely delicious, the staff was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly, and the ambiance was great for a quiet meal. I thought the prices were a little high, but we definitely will eat here again. We might even make it our anniversary destination every year.
Visitors from U.K.
Our waiter was incredible! We have been going to this hotel and dining room for over 20 years and it was great to see that he was still there!!! It was nice to be able to reflect on how the hotel was years ago and to see the changes that have occurred. Be prepared for SNOW in October - seems to happen whenever we stay there at the end of October. The views of Mount Washington with a clear blue sky and white caps with the foliage below were stunning!
Diner was a split. One entry was good and the other over cooked. The buffet breakfast cannot be better. The omelet was the best and the bacon was cooked to perfection.
The piano player in the evening was very good. Loud enough to hear him and soft enough not to interrupt conversation at our table.
The food was good. Service was very nice. Drinks are way overpriced. A $15 bottle of wine at any local market was $48 in the dining room. Seafood was delicious and steak was extremely tender and perfectly cooked but lacked flavor.
The experience was great, the pork appetizer was great. The main course was also tasty, the live music was nice. I liked it.
Very disappointing experience for my 40th. Would not recommend. Food was average at best, and very over priced.
The food and service were exceptional. Our seat could have been a little better considering we made the reservation two weeks in advance, but that’s being picky.
It is a beautiful hotel and has a storied history of elegance and luxury. Therefore, I was looking forward to a wonderful Saturday evening dinner at the Main Dining Room. I have to say it was disappointing. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks from the time we ordered them. From the time we sat down, it took 45 minutes for the bread basket to be placed on the table. While the bread basket included delicious hummus, olives and marinated carrots, the bread was sparse and stale. Two pieces of stale sourdough, 2-3 pieces of stale French bread and two triangles of pita. When our entree was delivered, the appetizer plates were not cleared from the table and although my wine glass was empty, the waiter didn't ask if I wanted another one. In other restaurants I wouldn't be so particular about these things, but I expect more from this hotel and for these prices. The seafood entrees were good, but nothing exceptional. I think Carolyn would be disappointed - I believe she demanded a higher level of quality than was exhibited in the food and service.
My brothers and I planned a weekend away for my parents 40th wedding anniversary. I booked the dinner reservation and requested, if possible, special view seating or any other “special accommodation” for them, that we would appreciate it. My parents said they had a beautiful window seat, their dinner was fantastic, and the restaurant although wasn’t serving clam chowder that evening, they would be able to take care of them anyways. Five star all the way. Thank you for giving my parents a great evening on a very special day.
Food was very poor although the view was spectacular
This restaurant at the Mt. Washington is light years better than its sister restaurant downstairs. The food and service at the Main Dining room is very good and the view outstanding. A little pricy but for a special occasion a treat.
My Wife and I ate in the main dining room for our 28th anniversary and had never been here before. It was a pleasant evening. The view of the sun setting against Mount Washington was spectacular to watch while sipping our drinks. Despite the size of the room, I was happy to see that it was pretty quiet (we did have a 5:30 sitting so it wasn't crowded). We both loved the "flight" of bread with olives, hummus, peppers and two types of NH made olive oil. I had the Bay Scallops and my wife the short ribs. Both were excellent. No desert but since it was our anniversary, the brought a sampler of round marble sized treats with the words "Happy Anniversary" drizzled across. It was a very nice touch. I would definitely go again.
We both the pan seared Haddock special. Previously frozen "fishy" tasting fish. It was overcooked and dry. Augrutin potatoes were overcooked and dry. We could have had a better meal at half the price in just about every restaurant in our home town of Plymouth MA. Service and ambiance were good.
Unbelievable food. Wonderful atmosphere. Entertainment. Couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate a birthday. To top it off got a little history tour by manager after dinner. Highly recommend.
It would have been perfect without the live entertainment. No need for Johnny Cash, or other strange songs for dinner music at a fine dining restaurant! The days of old visits were amazing with orchestra!
Great food and service!!!
We had a wonderful evening. Definitely an evening to remember.
Excellent in every way. Fantastic band, outstanding meal, top notch service.
The steak and lobster came a steak and a lobster claw, not what I expected for steak and lobster. The staff was very apologetic.
In spite the outstanding view of Mount Washington and the old-world charm of the dining room, the food was SO bad that I can no longer recommend this restaurant. My husband and I have eaten here for years and--in the past--we always considered our meals to be adequate but unmemorable, yet the splendor of the setting more than compensated.
This time. however, our dinners were inedible. My husband's chicken marsala (the special) was so dry that he could barely cut the meat, and the pasta seemed as if it had been left over from another evening and then microwaved. My salmon was okay but it didn't come with the extras described on the menu. Instead, it showed up surrounded by sliced baby potatoes. Being on a carb-free diet, I had specifically ordered an entree that wasn't accompanied by potatoes but I got them anyway, and they were so under-cooked that my husband refused them, even though he's usually a potato-lover. Our side salads were limp and swimming in dressing. My husband's salad included walnuts which he said tasted rancid.
Our waiter was excellent and I was sorry that we couldn't be more enthused about our evening for his sake. Apparently he reported our dissatisfaction because later, when we were up in our room and settling in for an early sleep (we'd been hiking all day), a manager called and offered to send up "a chocolate sampler." Well, the last thing I want at bedtime is chocolate, and so I refused. And even though it's impossible to imagine that a chocolate dessert could be ruined, given the meal that we'd just had, I wasn't optimistic.
My husband and I drove out to the Mount Washington Hotel and Resort on a whim. We dined in the main dinning room which was a beautiful room in itself. I knew this was going to be a great experience though when we were asked two questions. 1) Any dietary needs? and 2) Are you celebrating anything? I have never been to any restaurant and been asked those questions. I am lactose intolerant and they took that very seriously and made everything without dairy. The food was amazing, our waitress was super nice, our water glasses were constantly filled with ice water, the pianist was wonderful, and the views were breathtaking. Our waitress asked if we were staying at the hotel and we told her no because we only live about 90 minutes away and this was just a last minute road trip to go someplace we had never been before. We were encouraged to explore the grounds and take in the beautiful sunset views. I would definitely recommend family and friends. This was likely a one time experience for us as the restaurant is pricey for us; however we're both looking at big career promotions within the next eight to twelve months. If all goes as planned we might go again as it was just an amazing time! Thank you Mount Washington Hotel and Resort for a wonderful experience while we dined.
Kirby was the best server we have had ever.
Great job and terrific food.
Anniversary. We go quite often for our anniversary. We’re always made to feel special and that’s why we keep going back!
Although the Mountain is views are outstanding, the food was not. We’re not sure why we decided to eat here again, because we’ve been disappointed every time. The Lack of attention to preparation and lack of quality control getting to the table were two major issues just to start. The polenta luke warm and it was dry, and the ratatouille surrounding it had a red sauce that looked like it had been sitting, waiting to bring to the table for a while. The cut of meat for the short ribs was poor at best. The dish also came with a potato chive pancake, which disappeared due to the preparation of the dish. It was all meat and mostly VERY fatty meat.
We also had an order of salmon with french fries, but unfortunately it came out over mashed potatoes. It went back to the kitchen and it took them 20 minutes to fix the order. Most of us were halfway through our meal before it came out. Stickney’s is a much better choice and value, if you’re going to eat at the hotel. But the problem with Stickney’s is that the menu hasn’t changed in at least five years.
Jordan was a sweet server and shared helpful tips about the area.
Very nice restaurant with excellent drinks and outstanding service.
There was a really good piano player, but a family of kids were running around the dining room making so much noise and nobody would ask the parents to control them. The noise level was way to high for a romantic dinner setting. Way to expensive for the atmosphere.
A delightful dinner in the Main Dining Room. Lovely to have white table cloths and piano music. The wait staff are excellent, and particularly well supported by those busing tables, serving bread, and keeping water full. The teamwork yields a high attention to detail, which is so rare to see these days. All of that supports very good food indeed, but it the total experience that makes this special. Add the view of the mountains and you have every reason to dine here.
It is a nice place with a great view. During our stay at the hotel we always booked 1 dinner at the Main room. Always the food is just OK . This time it was very bad!!!! What"s up??
Great food, gorgeous dining room and spectacular views of the mountains. It was great having live music during dinner with the option of using the dance floor. 😊
Overpriced but very good and fresh
Dress code not observed sloppy
Hostess sloppy one of them
Our food was excellent as was our service. We’ve eaten here many times before and the waiter remembered us and even some things about us from the last time we were here. Always a great meal and time.
Food was terrific as well as the service. In particular Greg our server was FANTASTIC!!!!
This was a wonderful dining experience from start to finish. The ambiance was on point with the live piano music playing and the sun setting on the mountains. The food was fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Staff gave the perfect amount of attention to us. 10/10
Pricey but excellent
Food is Mediocre at best but where else could you go while staying at the Mount Washington resort? Resort magnificent and that alone is worth the trip!
To many young children running around yelling, screaming etc. Once they all left, around 8, it was lovely.
