My wife and I are regulars. We have have tried almost everything on the menu and our meals have never been anything less than superb. As a comparison, for an anniversary we went to a French restaurant in midtown 3x more expensive that was fancier but wasn't as good. As a bonus the owners Kenichi and Keiko are super nice people. You feel good eating there. Now for the food. Parts of the menu change seasonally so you'll have to check the menu but the cassoulet, the duck (any of them), the venison, and the pig knuckle are exceptional. For starters its hard not to get the ostrich tartare with foie gra, it's an act of will. Finally, for dessert the fig toffee pudding cake could make you forget chocolate, happily they put some chocolate sprinkles on so you won't.

Overall it was a great fine in the area, cute ambiance and very creative with pairing of ingredients. Wish it was not so out of the way for us but we were glad to give it try and will definitely dine again the next time we are in the neighborhood.

Mountain Bird feels like a small neighborhood restaurant, and it's worth taking the train ride to get there. We were there on Thanksgiving while visiting New York, and had one of the best meals of our stay. A prix fixe menu started with a collection of small bites and appetizers including an ostrich tartare and a shrimp cocktail with two sauces, worked through a soup, into the entrees (we chose turkey and fish) and into dessert (the sticky toffee pudding in particular was a winner). Service was excellent, food was wonderful.

We started with the pumpernickel bread, which arrived hot which was a great surprise, and the ostrich fois gras, which was interesting. I then had the duck wonton consommé which was also excellent. The duck duo entrée special was just that- very special. And the chicken was also good. Definitely a creative menu that is worth the price of admission- and is not as expensive as many of the much-touted French establishments in NYC.

Excellent food with some imaginative twists on classic French dishes. Really loved the flavors in the seafood carpaccio and the venison Rossini. Portions are on the small side, but the flavors are divine. Would definitely recommend. Great little date night spot in the area. Keen to come back soon. Service was attentive and friendly

We have been to mountain Bird many times. Each time we bring different friends. They love the restaurant as much as we do. The food is wonderful, the staff is so nice and the ambiance is perfect. it is also pretty easy to find parking. All in all, a great restaurant to go to.

After hearing of rave opinion from a friend I immediately made reservations for 2 this week. The place is attractive and the servers were very charming. The only great meal was the soup. One of the best ever. Unfortunately it went downhill from there. My guest had duck leg with a tiny ramekin containing "special sauce" which turned out to be AI sauce. My dinner was of chicken schnitzel with two small ramekins containing tomato sauce which reeks of catsup. the other sauce was pumped up sour cream. The Schnitzel was fine but on the very dry side. I had a glass of excellent rose wine.

We enjoyed every aspect of our experience from the friendly reception to dessert. Duck confit and cassoulet were our main courses... delicious! Portions were more than sufficient. One MUST try the pumpernickel baguette! Desserts were luscious. Prices were reasonable for NYC. Can’t wait to go back!

My wife and I go here fairly often. Always an overall pleasure. Lovely, kind staff, in a moderately quiet adult environment. The meals are delicious, often in interesting combinations. As well, there are changes made to the menu throughout the year, usually in a “seasonal” fashion. Overall a sublime NYC dining experience. Highly recommended.

Love this restaurant!!! The food is delicious and the service excellent. We were there for brunch and I decided to order the lobster tacos instead of eggs. They were crisp, flavorful and delicious. The egg dishes looked great. Highly recommended.

A truly spectacular dinner. The wait staff was warm, patient and informative. They went into depth regarding the items on the menu that we had questions about. They saw that my sister and I couldn’t choose between 2 desserts and when we ordered one, they brought both that we were looking at (comping the second one). Every dish we had was beautifully crafted, original and delicious. I cannot go on enough about how much we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. I can’t wait to go back!

even though 3 out of 4 main dishes were wrong we ate them and liked them a lot, the owner was very gracious. Chicken wings was very good presented like lollipops, the chicken pate exquisite just a small portion. Stay away from French fries - nothing special. Can't wait to go back to try the dishes we did not sample.
