Regrettably there was only one server for the whole dining room and while the front manager helped out the service was affected. The other issue was that some of the food came out cold. This was our first not so good experience having dined here before.

I selected this restaurant because they serve ile flottante, my favorite dessert, but the rest of the meal was fantastic. Started with a great cocktail (tequilla), and split the roast duck with my friend. It was huge and made for wonderful leftovers. The sides were flavorful, as was the salad (which I usually find boring). The service was impeccable, everyone was very nice and the waiter carefully explained the menu. We went on a rainy Tuesday night and sadly the place was nearly empty. I plan to return and hope it's still there! It was that good!

Le Coq Rico served delicious chicken (the tastiest chicken that I've ever eaten). The service was wonderful as was the ambience! We sat at the counter overlooking the kitchen and enjoyed watching the chefs preparation of the food. We truly enjoyed the experience. The whole roast chicken was superb. The only downside was the price; $120. for the chicken dish.

This dining experience was a real disappointment. I have been to Coq Rico several times but haven't been in for 6 months. They used to have several breeds of chicken to choose from, now there was one, the most common. Chicken was okay, not great. Celery root salad was soggy, it must have been made a few days prior. 3 bottles of wine I selected from the wine list were not available. The concept of the restaurant, poultry and game, seems to be loosing steam. Not as I remember from the early days of this restaurant.

We have been to Coq Rico several times, and returned for Valentine's dinner. After 3 conversations in which the restaurant arranged to adjust the planned fixed menu for allergies, as we began our first courses, we were told that the main course would not be possible. We instead were served half of a rotisserie chicken, delicious, but not a festive, more expensive dinner for two. Wines, not the ones listed as included, were added, nearly doubling the cost of dinner. It was disappointing. We will returned for the very good roast chicken, but with less feeling of good will.

The vegetarian options tasted much better than the chicken / cornish hen, which is worrisome. Maybe quality is lower during restaurant week, as this place came highly recommended for their poultry. Dessert was excellent though.

This is my 5th time at the restaurant and so far I was always VERY happy so I hope that this was a fluke.... restaurant week? We went for brunch. Two of us ordered of the menu and two ordered from the restaurant week menu. The chicken late was mediocre, my omelette was so salty I had to “dilute it” with the mushroom and spinach side. The omelette had a ton of tarragon which happens to be my least favorite herb and I wish it was mentioned in the description of the dish....Salad dressing was salty as well. The chicken burger was good, as was the cauliflower volutes. The biggest disappointment was the coq au vin..... it was dry - the sauce rescued it to some extent.....

I had two delicious dishes. My wife had one that she didn't particularly enjoy -- a house specialty, coq au vin. I tasted it. she was right. I'm happy to return; she's willing. The restaurant was special when it opened. Seems much less so now.

Best chicken i've ever tasted. Too bad it was served with a salad that seemed like greens from a bag plucked down on the plate. The potato puree i ordered as an accompaniment was sublime. The foie gras terrine was delicious but did not live up to the hype by our server who claimed it was the best terrine in the country. The Ile flottante which someone named the best dessert in NYC, was nothing to write home about. The food and service was inconsistent but tasty overall.

Exceptional chicken main course, we had the quarter Brune Landaise each. Starters were ok. Lobster bisque was better than the devilled eggs which was a combination of strongly competing flavours: the marinated octopus salad and whole cumin seeds didn't really work together at all. Not enough devil in the eggs for our taste either. Next time I think we'd skip the starter and just have mains and save ourselves best part of 40 bucks. Loved sitting up at the kitchen counter to chat with the chefs though. Juan and Victor were great and really made the night for us.

Sadly, Le Coq Rico is not what it used to be. The food is not bad, but it is not up to the previous standards. The chef who founded the restaurant left the partnership a while back, and it took a while for things to go downhill.

My husband and I frequented Le Coq Rico on many occasions both alone and with friends when it was owned and operated by Westerman. It was always a lovely all around experience. The moment we walked in I sensed something was different (not knowing it changed hands). The staff, the ambiance , menu etc. all has a distinctly different feel. And it wasn't a good one. We learned from one of the staff that it was under new ownership. Sorry to say we will not be back.
