   This was my first time to Billy’s Went there for a birthday lunch as I was getting seated they asked whose birthday so I told the hostess/ server Loved the decor and vibe walking thru to the deck We had a nice table with a nice view I made the reservation thru OpenTable the BILLYS menu on open table had different prices that the restaurant had which was disappointing I was dying to try the coconut shrimp which open table listed as $19 for 4 shrimp Yet the menu at the restaurant the shrimp were $26 Everything was at least $5 more Perhaps , open table hasn’t been updated but it’s still the restaurants responsibility I ordered the fish n chips ( mahi mahi) and had to send it back it looked amazing and a large portion. The batter was perfect but the fish was so dry and overcooked I couldn’t eat it so after flagging down the server I told and showed her so she asked if I’d want another order I said no and ended up with a burger For what it was , it was overpriced . It was just basic food nothing special except the view and the decor the rest of the table ordered Tuna salad Pulled pork and the shrimp Louie salad Everything seemed to be just basic diner food When I got up to use the bathroom ( great decor) I glanced at other tables food I saw the shrimp I had thought of which looked good but was 4 medium sized shrimp on a plate with a dipping sauce and they charged $26 I thought they’d recognize my friends birthday since they asked who’s birthday but they didn’t. The server was pleasant and just okay There’s several restaurants to choose from next time I meet friends in that area of Newport which have better food for the same prices or less

   Swordfish was delicious but halibut was extremely dry, so hit and miss, great appetizers and drinks, service was great, environment was ok, the harbor location is what makes it but otherwise nothing spectacular inside, it’s very casual, the one deal breaker that gave us such a sour taste and not ever going back is the fact that the valet company is separate from the restaurant and we were assed out when we were ready to leave. Nobody to talk to, nobody wanted to help they basically said there’s nothing they can do and to come back the next day, What The Fck are you kidding me? They were not responsible and weren’t going to help us out, we spent $400 on so so dinner and $100 tip, kinda over priced so so food and now we were stranded, they did not care, nope never again

   The food quality has gone down immensely. Drinks have become overpriced and while our server was kind, the Management staff was less than stellar. Billy’s has unfortunately gone downhill.

   Billy’s is a very good restaurant with cool beach vibe. Located right on the bay Billy’s provides great scenery. The food is delicious although somewhat pricey. Servers and staff have always been excellent and accommodating. Probably not the best choice for a Friday evening business dinner. Robust and somewhat noisy but a happening kind of place.

   We were seated at a window table when we requested. Neither myself or my friend have eaten at Billy's at the Beach before. We wanted to try the restaurant and take advantage of the Orange County Restaurant Week specials. It was better then expected and I will return with my wife soon. I live on Lido Island.

    Excellent food (highly recommend the PuPu Platter) excellent drinks (recommending their World Famous Mai Tai). Great ambiance and excellent service from Valet to Front Desk, to the waiter. All very attentive, friendly, and polite.

    I have dined at Billy's previously and the food is always good and consistent every time I come in. The one thing I did notice was that usually I order a pupu platter and it comes a little more decorative with fire to warm up the meats, this time there was not any. Otherwise, 10/10 meal and flavors were amazing on the Huli Huli Chicken & Glazed Porkchops.

    We have been going to Billy's over 15 years and the food is consistently good. Our problem this visit was not the quality of the food but the food prices. While we recognize that costs have gone up and that restaurants were hit particularly hard during the pandemic, we don't like being gouged. Their famous Hawaiian bread that used to come with the entree is now not included and an additional $14. I ordered the 3 fish tacos which were good but did not include any sides but I could have ordered chips and guacamole for another $17. I have traveled the world and have never seen prices for side/extras that compare with these. By the way, the restaurant, on a Friday night before Valentine's Day was virtually empty. They may want to rethink their menu prices.

    Had a good, new in-training waitress and it seemed like she moved to another table. Service was good overall. Blackened Swordfish was dry and mashed potatoes tasted like they were powdered and from a box. No way they were fresh based on texture and taste. Not at all what I’m used to in the mid-west meat and potatoes country. A little disappointing for the cost of the meal. I want good fresh whipped potatoes and good seafood at Newport Beach, the green bend were the best item on entree. Not sure I would go back. Was hoping for a better experience!

    Annoying drunk cackling hens on adjacent table for 10 who were finished eating hour before. Food is definitely overpriced (26.00 for 4 coconut shrimp) give me a break!

    Great food! French onion soup is now a regular menu item and the jalapeño margarita is my favorite drink. All of their food is delicious! This is one of our go to restaurants.

    The food is not the same as it used to be. Calamari was terrible The fish and chips were soggy. My ribs where dry :( and coleslaw tasted old. I’ve been going to Billy’s for years this was disappointing.

    Fair warning - their open table reservation times do not align with their Kitchen hours. The kitchen closes at 8:45 yet they allow reservations later and do not tell you until you arrive and rush you to order and finish eating. The food is mediocre quality and the restaurant needs to align their reservation availability to their actual hours of operation.

    We booked for the boat parade. Had a lot of fun, food was surprisingly good. Had the Macadamia crusted halibut, excellent. Service was great the the views were perfect for the parade.

    We booked the Premium Seating Package for the Newport Boat Parade and it was so worth it. Great service, food and view of the harbor. We booked an early seating which worked for us but we didn’t realize we had the table for the night so it’s really a great deal. Great variety of food in the Prix fix menu. Highlight was the Tomahawk steak for two, the seared salmon and the coconut cream pie. We will defiantly do this again next year.

    Unfortunately, Billy's is no longer a reliable go-to spot. The food quality has gone way down since the pandemic (and I've given them several chances, both at lunch and dinner), while the prices have gone up. For example, you used to get their great bread basket at no additional charge, including refills. Yesterday we paid $14 for 4 slices of bread. And their dinner entrees (at higher prices) typically now come without sides, which were always included and plentiful. Billy's is now overpriced and mediocre. What a shame.

    Billys is a great place great staff the only thing that I would change would be their calamari it was like eating batter dipped fish. Calamari needs to be crisp and thin with no dough in it.

    We’ve been coming to this restaurant for 20+ years. Disappointed by the much consolidated menu. We had come here in the past for the choice of fish options. ONly a couple of fish options now. But, 1/2 page of appetizers/pupus. I had the halibut with macadamia crust and beurre bland sauce. Sauce could have been more flavorful. Their famous cheese bread is not included in meal, but is $12. My husband’s swordfish was not the greatest. On past visits, I would always appreciate the skill of the chefs in how they cooked fresh fish and their sauces. Not so much this visit. Entrees now include a burger, steak, fish tacos—not a ton of skill required there. Shrimp cocktail was good. Seems as though the focus is now on happy hour cocktails and appetizers. I wish these folks the best!
