About

For well over a century, Durgin-Park has catered to the hearty appetites of straw-hatted, white-aproned market men and local characters. Today it hosts visiting celebrities, business men and women, students, and tourists from every part of the globe. While the origin of Durgin-Park goes back to Revolutionary days, the era of fame for its chowders, Indian puddings, apple pan dowdy, johnny cake, and New England boiled dinners started some 130 years ago when John Durgin, in partnership with Eldridge Park, a livery man, and John G. Chandler, a dry goods merchant, took over. The theme followed to this day was decided upon then by these old Yankees, that the best advertising is plenty of food on the table.

We had a great time at Durgin Park celebrating my birthday. The food was great and the atmosphere was festive at Christmas time. Our waitress, Laura, took great care of us. She was attentive, happy, and very entertaining. Laura made our night a memorable one! Will definitely go back and would recommend it to anyone -- ask for Laura!

We waited about 20 minutes for a server to come take our drink order. Then we put in an appetizer order and told the server we wanted to wait to put in our entree order. We felt like we were being rushed through our meal so that he could make more tips. We spoke at the beginning of the order about kids meals being free but we’re charged for them when the bill came. The food was good but not as good as you would expect for the high price point.

I hadn't eaten at Durgin Park for many years, and my wife had never done so. It was quite a bit like my first experience there some 40 years ago, although the menu seems a bit more interesting than I remember from before. We had a good meal for a fair price, with a little nostalgia on the side. Better than any casual-style chain restaurant I know.

This has to have been the worst restaurant I have ever visited in the states. It says they have the best prime rib ever. One of our party had it and said it was the toughest prime rib he had ever tasted .

First time at Durgin Park - have always wanted to go there. Was not disappointed. Classic American-style seafood and comfort food very nicely done. Friendly family-style Boston atmosphere. There were 9 of us for a Sunday lunch. Service was great, good beer. We loved it. Definitely worthwhile visiting this historic Boston restaurant.

Durgin-Park is a genuinely old restaurant, not a restaurant constructed to look old (It looks just like it did fifty years ago when I first went there.) The food is traditional, heavy and plentiful. I go there when I want to be reminded of old Boston and home cooking. There are some menu items that I don't usually find in other restaurants, like fish cakes, Yankee pot roast, baked beans, corn bread and Indian pudding. Their clam chowder is excellent, so is their strawberry shortcake. The Durgin cut prime rib (32 oz.) is served on the bone. It will make you feel like Fred Flintstone.

It was the first Thanksgiving we've ever eaten out, and we had a large group. All but one got the turkey dinner, and the portions were bountiful! I also had butternut squash soup and it was delicious. Our server was wonderful, but it was a bit slow due to the business of the hour we ate. Understandable.

Durgin Park was great. I would go again. I would not, however, park in the garage connected to Faneuil Hall. We were there for less than two hours and had to pay $38 for parking! The waitress at Durgin was great and the food was wonderful.

Been going here since ... forever. Most recent visit very disappointing. Same friendly service, same “old” restaurant feel - but food has definitely deteriorated. “Fresh” seafood not so fresh anymore, salads a bit tired, steaks came off an assembly line. Maybe it was inevitable, being in the midst of Boston’s tourist hot spot, but more and more feels like just another tourist attraction, one among many many others in the Faneuil Hall vicinity.

Wasn't quite sure about the place but there was a deal for $30 restaurant gift certificate and 2 tickets to the comedy club below (call the Hideout) for $20. The Hideout cost $5/person so it was like getting $40 dollars worth of stuff for $20. The tables at Durgin are long wooden and covered by red/white picnic type table covers. The staff is very sweet and attentive but not the best in helping you make food choices if you are indecisive. They give you corn bread automatically but it was very dry! For appetizer, I went with the crab cake and initially was concerned that the bottom was burnt but it was excellent burst of flavors and crab meat when combined with the slaw beneath it. I was not a fan of the clam chowder, felt a bit watered down, by my date loved how creamy it was. For entrees, I ate the seafood pasta and my data had the prime rib with butternut squash and mashed potatoes as the side. I do wish the squash was not pureed (felt like baby food) but it had good flavors. The seafood pasta was made in a sauce that was so creamy and did not feel like you were eating butter, which can happen in white pasta sauces sometimes. The prime rib was quite large so glad we did not get the 32 oz and definitely cooked to perfection. No dessert for us but the server recommended "Wick’d Good Martini Malibu Coconut Rum, Hpnotiq Liqueur, Pineapple Juice" and it was good. Walked around the neighborhood after dinner then went to the comedy show which had its good and bad moments. All in all, would go again.

We each had the Boston Cut Prime Rib, the house specialty. I had the house made baked beans and the butternut squash as sides and my girlfriend had the butternut squash and a baked potato as sides. I had the Boston Cream Pie for desert. Everything was great! Kim, our server, was professional, helpful and efficient. She did everything right. The Ambiance is that of a traditional steakhouse and seafood restaurant. Next time in Boston I will definately return.

My husband is the fifth generation to have dinner at Durgin Park. The atmosphe is very casual with long communal tables and red checkered table clothes. The food was really tasty. I had the Yankee Pot Roast and my husband had the BBQ Short Ribs. Both dishes were very good. There are several more items on the menu that I would like to try in the future. Our server was friendly and very efficient in getting our meal to us quickly. Its not a fancy place and it would be great for families. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Boston. Hopefully our daughter and son will visit in the future and be the sixth generation to dine at Durgin Park!

We had a reservation for upstairs of Durgin Park, but got side tracked to their basement bar - THE HIDEOUT. Great detour; food was very good - same menu as upstairs- but was able to listen to a great group called Copilot - Ry and Maggie were incredible - what a find! I'd recommend the HIDEOUT to anyone who wants a different experience and is not looking for the usual (but good) restaurant experience of Durgin Park upstairs. Probably caters to a younger crowd, but as middle-agers, we had no problem blending in and enjoying. Lily the bartender and our server was very nice.

Huge disappointment. Always visited Durgin while in Boston and looked forward to the experience. Now..absolutely not. From the outset...room is shabby....waiter is uniformed...corn bread was thin, dry and bland....chicked liver appetizer was badly overcooked to the point of being tough and almost burned.....vegetables with entree were cold and without flavour...prime rib was tasty but terribly overpriced. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and will never return. Too bad.

A childhood memory of prime rib at Durgin Park had me bring my wife on a short excursion to Boston. It was a bit disappointing. Dining room was quite cold, heavy work outside the back window noisy, and prime rib not available for lunch (saw that nowhere on the website). Service was ok but a bit slow despite the near empty dining room. The food we ordered - mediocre. Boston Beans were disappointingly bland. Cold beer was good, though they were out of their Durgin Park Ale. All in all a disappointing experience...!

The food quality was ok, but overpriced. You are paying for their location and history and not for the food quality nor originality. The ambiance was fine, but the legendary Durgin Park attitude was missing. You would be better suited to dine elsewhere...or at least, lower your expecations.

With 12 people to organize, I was apprehensive about finding a place in Boston on a Friday night. I hit the jackpot with Durgin Park. Traditional Boston menu and used to handling large groups. Mary, our waitress, was wise, witty, and attentive. She even worked out for separate checks and made sure one diner with a serious seafood allergy was able to order without worry. We Kentuckian could not have enjoyed our Boston experience more.
