We’ve been to Toups before and have always had a great meal. Unfortunately the last visit was underwhelming. The highlight of the meal was the double pork chop which was stellar as usually. However, two of us had the NY Strip steak which was disappointing. The menu should have described that this was basically thin like a hanger steak = one that you might get at a diner with eggs, hash browns, and toast for breakfast. Furhermore, the steak had too much fat and gristle.
The kitchen was backed up. It was 35 to 40 minutes from our salad to our main course. The wait staff was pleasant and apologetic.
Overall, an extremely disappointing meal.
We would go back for the pork chop......

I’ve been to Toups 3 times and have loved it every time sooo much. The service and food is spectacular.
They over cooked mine and my friends steak(very unlike them) and to make it right they gave us free desert and wine.

Two hour meal for an appetizer and side. Friendly wait staff but there’s some kind of problem between the staff and kitchen. Flavors are great but certain dishes had warm and cold spots like they were reheated incompletely. The executive chef needs to crack the whip if they want their food enjoyed; instead it was a frustrating experience.

Horrific service. Requested wine list multiple times before it was finally brought. Waitress never checked on us while eating appetizers or anytime after. We had to constantly flag her down (more water...how were entrees coming...) Entrees still weren’t ready almost 1 1/2 hrs after ordering, so we left. When we asked for the check, the waitress informed us they were comping the entrees. We asked how you could comp something that was never received?!? Food was good, but atmosphere was hot and loud. No food is worth service that terrible. Can not recommend.

Very pork heavy menu, good meats and amazing wines. If there are big grouos it is very loud due to the layout of the place.

I was looking for a casual “locals favourite” vs a touristy and pretentious French Quarter place. This fit the bill perfectly. The service was efficient but not overbearing, friendly and informative. Atmosphere was bustling but not loud or hectic. Casual, great food at very reasonable prices. The double-cut pork chop was recommended by a local diner at an adjacent table and he was bang on. It was superb. Duck was perfectly cooked, gulf shrimp was excellent with a flavourful spicy sauce that begged to be scooped up with the hunk of crusty bread provided. This was a shot in the dark and I am glad that I took it! Will be back when I’m next in NOLA.

Food was amazing! Service was lacking along with atmosphere. Overall somewhat disappointed. I would not recommend for dinner. Lunch, to experience the food without the heavy cost.

This is a foodie place for people who like unusual meat dishes. Definitely not a steakhouse. My grilled artichoke appetizer and duck were both good, but my wife's rillets were badly over salted and her couvillion was a disappointment. But the big flaw was a 40 minute wait for appetizers followed by another 40 minutes for entrees, with no bread in the interim to tide us over. Toups is very popular with some, but we were disappointed.

Our waitress was very friendly, but hard to get attention. My shrimp was much too tart for roasted shrimp and my husband’s lamb neck was nothing but fat. I was seated so I could see out the front window and door. Both glass planes were filthy. The salad was good and the frois Gras was ok. Expensive and not good. Won’t return.

The flavors of each dish was amazing! The atmosphere was great for a fun Friday night date. Recommend the gumbo dumplings as well as the hogshead cheese!

Went for Restaurant week, for the coolinary menu. The corn fritters were delicious and the gumbo dumplings were good. My lamb ragu was good, but very salty and greasy. I would recommend, though. My husbands spicy fried quail was just that, SPICY. Collard greens were good. We also ordered boudin balls, which I do not recommend. They were burnt and bitter, also not good boudin stuffing. Watermelon martini was delicious and refreshing. Service was great. Would recommend Toups, but would maybe suggest sticking to normal menu and passing on the boudin balls. Also, seating is CLOSE QUARTERS and uncomfortable seats.

We had a great dinner at Toups Meatery. Bryson, our server, was incredibly helpful with my wife's food allergies. The food was great. We shared the locally cured meat as an appetizer and it was served with pickled vegetables. It was very tasty and moist and the pickles were a great accompaniment. I had the Venison which was served at a perfect medium rare with a flavorful and rich brown sauce. My wife had the Wagyu beef which was a Flank cut. Again, just to her liking at Medium rare served with cheesy mashed potatoes. Even the dessert was great choosing a rich chocolate mouse cake. Fantastic service and delicious food in a great neighborhood restaurant.

Superb food and great service. The only drawback is it is loud....acoustics need improvement. We had the pork chop..AMAZING, wagyu beef, grilled artichoke and sausage. It is definitely a keeper.

I was unfortunately very disappointed with the quality of food and service given the good reviews. My favorite dish was the meat board, but the other dishes (chicken thighs, quail, and dirty rice) were extremely salty, boring, and overpriced in my opinion. The wagyu beef was also a bit underwhelming, but not as salty as some of the other dishes. On top of that, we waited over an hour to be served any of our entrees despite it being a relatively slow night. I’m hoping it was just an off night for the kitchen based on other positive reviews, but I was really surprised to have such a disappointing first impression.

Went there with a large group and they were very accommodating. The food is good, however, my complaint is that the restaurant is selling $100+ bottles of red wine that are not cellared. I suppose for most people they don't care, but for those of us who appreciate an interesting wine list (which the restaurant has), it is surprising that they do this.

So, if you care about your wines, then this is likely not the place you want to go, however, if that's not an issue, then enjoy.

Great food, good value. Food is fusion of New Orleans, steakhouse, Thai, and other worldly flavors, and it all blends very well.

Ony negative is an open, industrial, warehouse like ambience that is not very pretty. Despite the ambience, I highly recommend this off the beaten path New Orleans restaurant.

We got off to a rough start after being seated. It seems the less busy a restaurant is the worse the service is. That was our experience. Our reservation was a half-hour after opening. It took an extremely long time for our food order to be taken and the waiter started to walk away without taking a drink order. My husband had to call out to him that he wanted a bottle of wine. Blah blah blah on service problems. We finally got our wine, second choice as the first wasn’t available, and the food began arriving as did other patrons.

Service stepped up. The grilled Romain salad was delicious and the shrimp balls (whatever they were) were very good although the sauce was a bit spicy for me. We both had the pastrami sandwich which was excellent. As our lunch progressed, service improved and we did enjoy our experience in the end.

Delicious food, shaky service!

My friends in the neighborhood really like this place but they were way off the day we went. That was hard because my date is super critical of places that charge but do not deliver. The staff was wonderful and the salads and appetizers were darn good. BUT the menu item we came for that was featured on the menu was not available. Because it was fish and chips they gave us shrimp instead in the fish and chips batter....small shrimp.

When they say fish and chips or anything with chips that is what they mean......Potato Chips! Yes they were home made but soaked in grease that made our hands shiner after each one. They were (and everything was) covered in excessive salt and I am a big salt lover.

My pastrami sandwich was on such chewy bread I had trouble cutting it with a knife and it too was outrageously salty and I gave it to my dining partner to make up for the tiny shrimp and greasy chips.

We paid $57 for the above even on a special local menu. I guess we ordered the wrong thing on the wrong day cooked by the wrong people.

We went home to power down some tums.

Oh well.

I’m a pretty big foodie and I gotta say this is easily among my top 5 all time meals. Makes me proud to say New Orleans food can top anything else on the planet. The gulf seafood couvillion was amazing as well as everything else on the menu (our group ordered nearly everything on the menu haha). Will be coming back for sure.
