Gunpowder Tower Bridge
Food is wonderful but love them to add an option on the menu for ordering some broad
Good food that's the restaurant's problem to solve, not ours. However, that aside, we would return.
Busy with very good service and interesting food in small plates...table could have been a bit bigger to cope.
Such a lovely place fro date night (even after 30 years of marriage). Food was really tasty and the staff were very attentive. Loved singing along to the old skool music. Was so impressed, I bought the cookbook with the recipes fro everything we had eaten. Will definitely come again
It was a rum themed night for us at the table with gunpowderr regiment a rum and masala coke concoction
And rumpudding a sublime breadpudding soaked in rum also we stuffed our faces with Kashmiri lamb which is apparently the owners MIL's recipe and was devine. We also had artichokes okra fries and duck leg
Each bite was an explosion of flavour! Staff were polite and cordial and the location is amazing too
Fantastic food, just comes up a bit quick. Need to manage that next time.
Really starters (kale salad / fries / venison doughnut..) but the grilled king prawn were burnt and overcooked. The service was really good at first but not great by the end.
Amazing meal. Bit pricey but memorable.
Awesome food, great experience, would highly recommend to anyone
Lovely evening out with great food and quick service. We’d go back.
Super helfpul and friendly staff. One of the diners was vegan and they recommended some excellent dishes. Not the normal Indian food you have at most restaurants - absolutely delicious and would highly recommend to anyone. Perfect location to go to The Bridge theatre afterwards!
Absolutely delicious, unusual, and delightful, all for a very reasonable price.
Some dishes are very disappointing,
some are very good,
so for a global experience i'm a bit disappointed..
Average food at extraordinary prices. Overpriced and tiny portions. I had high expectations having read many reviews but I was utterly disappointed on my birthday and graduation meal. At £7.50 per lamb cutlet I was expecting a sizeable portion but it was abysmal. Two bites per cutlet with absolutely no chilli heat. As a born and raised Indian and a good cook, this is not authentic Indian cuisine nor an impressive modern adaptation.
Furthermore, the service was shocking. We were expected to eat our mains with dirty crockery and dirty plates from the starter. When we asked for new plates the waiter took his time and with a sour attitude gave our group plates in the middle with no friendly service. We asked for two mains of lamb cutlets which were served on one tiny plates. When we asked for this two be brought as two separate plates were talked down to. Service with a smile was none existent. For premium prices I expected high quality but as the evening continued I was thoroughly disappointed.
Aloo Chaat aka served as boiled potato with yoghurt. Minimal flavour and seasoning. Okra fries tiny portion nothing special. Lamb cutlets absolutely tiny, not enough sauce and when asked for spicy they will bring a tiny bowl of chopped green chillies instead of cooking it into the dish. NOT THE INDIAN WAY.
It is not the cost that upsets me. It is paying this high price and not receiving the quality of food or service that should come which such a high price tag. I would not recommend this restaurant and would honestly want my money back .
I am not criticising for the sake of criticising. Having trained as a chef, worked as a patisserie chef and as a waitress I have some knowledge as to glaring mistakes and good things a restaurant can have. I hope things I have said can be taken on board to improve the dining experience for the guests.
So disappointed with this whole experience. After a warm welcome we were seated at a table for two right in between another table for two and a table of four. So close together it could have been a shared table.
Our waiter was helpful and recommended a few dishes for us. We ordered 6 dishes which came just so quickly, it felt like fast food! They all came together which meant there was no room on the table and they soon went cold so we could not enjoy them at their best although doubtful if they were even good when they came out the chicken.
Suggest you visit an Ottolenghi restaurant if you want to see the professional way they handle the serving of small plates which is beautifully paced and makes the experience so enjoyable.
The kale salad with greasy and unpleasant, we sent if back, the lamb chops are an extortionate £7.50 each and were dry and overcooked as was the tandoori baby chicken. The best dishes were the venison doughnut which looked spectacular and the broccoli although it did not justify the £9. We left in under an hour and felt cheated. Will never return or recommend.
Great food and service. The only issue was how crammed tables are together so dinner was far from an intimate experience. Not quite sure why we were seated so tightly in as there are 2 floors, 1 of which was completely empty. We were told that there was a 2 hour turnaround but in the time we had finished our meal, the restaurant was as full as when we started. I would only go back if i was able to opt for one of the more private tables near the window.
All dishes were excellent - saag paneer was so good that we immediately ordered a second one after finishing the first. The lamb chops and pork ribs were also personal favorites.
The food was delicious and it was lovely trying lots of small dishes. The restaurant was quite crowded and tables were placed very close together. We booked a table in advance but we were wedged in between another couple at a table right next to us and a narrow, busy walkway between us and the bar - the waiters kept having to squeeze past us and one almost tripped over us at one point! There were a lot of empty tables upstairs so it would have been better to space people out more. Also, despite having waiters passing us all the time, it was very difficult to catch their attention and the waiter who served us didn't smile the whole time we were there. They didn't seem very happy with their job and it slightly spoiled the evening. Though, as I say, the food was very tasty and that's the main thing!
They were amazing!
Very accommodating and welcoming xxx
Service poor. Wait staff confused and charged for an item we never received.
Good food. Some really good. Told as sat down 2 hours for meal- fair enough. 2 minutes after paying (at 1.5hrs) asked if we could hurry up as new customers waiting, 4 minutes later (while putting coat on) asked again to please leave as new customers waiting. Couldn’t have been made to feel more unwelcome.
Good to at least give it a go. Staff were very pleasant but the service was a little bit cluncky. The food portion were good especially the meats. They suggested three per person, we ordered seven for the two of us and it was bordering too much. Nice flavours and good use of spices. Very tasty, though one or two of the dishes were questionable. The Aloo Chaat was one of their best sellers (so they said!) and we thought it was too sweet. Atmosphere was good on a Wednesday night. It was busy.
It was a fun evening and we expected a lot as we’d read reviews which were great. We were not disappointed- it was fantastic! Most delicious food and I would thoroughly recommend!
Oh my god!! the food was delicious. I want to go back!
The food was as excellent as I have ever had it, everything was perfectly cooked, delicious and the portions were excellent for the Gunpowder feast menu.
Service was a little lacking, friendly but a bit indifferent, and I would have preferred it if dishes, especially in the first round of serving, didn’t come out in such quick succession.
The restaurant was the right level of busy and the toilets were nice and clean - always a good thing!
Overall a great night and a delicious meal, my friends were very impressed. Gunpowder remains an excellent proposition for excellent and innovative Indian food!
Great food. Indian Tapas style, so innovative concept too.
Only complaint and that’s why I’ve given 4 stars, is the rice was very poor quality, tasteless and dry.
Great pre-theatre spot if you are going to The Bridge. Small plates mean that the service is quick and we enjoyed everything we tried.
Sat outside with a pleasant view of Tower Bridge. Nice quiet spot but buzzier inside if that's what you prefer. Food was excellent, particularly the lamb chops and the scotch egg.
Food was excellent with friendly service. Would recommend the broccoli masala and the rum pudding.
Excellent staff, great food, would have to say it's slightly pricier than expected but was a delicious meal that left us very full.
Service was really bad here. From the first minute they were rushing to get us out of the place, even though we had two hours for our reservation.
The “manager” was always running around and if you manage to stop him to order one thing he’d run away without letting you finish your order.
Nearly all the food came at the same time after we ordered (from oysters to starters to main) so we had like 10 dishes on the table with 1.5 hours to go on our reservations, people rushing around and food getting cold.
We got told that our time was up in a fairly rude way at the end too.
The food was actually decent, but given the service we probably wouldn’t be coming back
Food was delicious and the service was amazing. We really enjoyed our meal here and would definitely visit again.
Food is great as always, service slow with the drinks, food always arrives before the drinks!
Set menu was good and all of the food was tasty, lamb chops especially good, served very quickly and felt slightly rushed. Tables too small to comfortably fit multiple dishes.
Better than average.
A couple of dishes disappointed and they were the over cooked duck leg and the beef which was a bit dry.
On the other hand everything else was great and the desserts fantastic.
Service was excellent from all the staff, Food was a little bit disappointing although their Lamb Chops were Excellent. No Mocktail selection, so that was another negative, overall it was good.
Been there for the first time. Amazing atmosphere nice food.
Restaurant in a nice area. Staff were pleasant. Really enjoyed our food but felt a bit rushed. As a table of 2 you are only allocated 1 hour and 15 minutes. Although this gave you plenty of time to eat it was because our food was served within minutes of ordering. It felt like fast food without a fast food price tag.
The service was outstanding, and the food really delicious. Explosion of different flavours. Small plates to taste. No nans and no lassies but an awesome experience! I would definitely recommend and go back.
