Italian
Lidia’s Pittsburgh opened in March of 2001, only two years after Lidia Bastianich and her son Joseph Bastianich opened the popular Lidia’s Kansas City, their first venture outside of Manhattan.

Lidia’s Pittsburgh menu concept is a combination of the New York restaurants, Felidia and Becco.

Lidia's is located downtown in the strip district near the Heinz History Center, Benedum Center, Heinz Hall, Byham Theater, PNC Park, and PPG Paints Arena so it's the perfect place to enjoy a great meal before your event.

The menu features a daily pasta tasting, with homemade pastas that incorporate the season's freshest ingredients in addition to hearty Italian favorites such as the osso bucco, a braised heritage pork shank with barley risotto, the scallopine of chicken breast with roasted lemon, capers, and olives, and grilled salmon filet with seasonal contorni.

Lidia's was CLOSED!!!! We were taking a friend who watched Lidia's show for her birthday. What a dissappointment. Should have received some notice so we could have made alternate plan.

Despite a reminder from OpenTable the day before my reservation, I showed up at Lidia's Pittsburgh to find it had been closed. When I inquired of OpenTable how that could have happened, I was informed that Lidia's was no longer on your reservation network. Yet, I just received this request to review the restaurant. So it would appear that Lidia's is still on your system. Perhaps OpenTable could do a better job of updating it's restaurant listings to prevent its customers from showing up at closed restaurants.

We went for Sunday brunch, not realizing it was the last day the restaurant would be open. We got there for an eleven AM reservation, just as it was opening. The usual dips or bread baskets weren't on the tables until we were ready to leave. The appetizer table was filled one item at at time, over about a half hour. One of the people delivering food to that table was having a major anger management issue, which wasn't dealt with by anyone. The pasta trio wasn't ready until about a half hour after we ordered. Lidia's has always been very good to excellent, so it was a major disappointment that on its last day of service, it wasn't. It's not the way I wanted to remember it.

It took almost 40 minutes to get our entree which was salmon for my friend and me. Although there was an apology, there was no attempt at service recovery-with offering a complimentary glass of wine or dessert. I realize that the restaurant is closing, but think that Lidia would like to maintain her brand, especially if she opens elsewhere in Pittsburgh. In the past, i have had good experiences at this restaurant, but last evening was a disappointment.

Very disappointed that when we arrived at the restaurant we were told that they were closing that location in 6 days (end of August) and that is why the menu was very limited and nothing near what was posted on the website. There was no notice on the building or the entrance to the restaurant that this location was closing. Not even a statement on the website. Staff were extremely professional throughout our dinner and our waitress had worked there for 14 years and came back out of loyalty as they were short staffed for the remaining days they were open. The food was excellent but the evening was disappointing knowing that Lidia's was closing.

Not happy - OpenTable took and confirmed the reservation but when I arrived the restaurant was locked - not open. Posted hours on the door did not match those on OpenTable. Also, hours of operation on phone recording did not match either those posted or those hours shown on OpenTable. Furthermore, I received an email from Open Table asking why I didn’t show up for the reservation!

This restaurant is closing soon, but it is at very minimal staff and cooks already. Should have closed when it was still a very good place to eat and not left to become a bad shadow of it's former self. I expect better from someone like Lidia.

I have always had a wonderful experience at Lidia’s in the past. Knowing that Lidia’s is soon closing a group of us decided to have a last brunch this past Saturday. My first disappointment was that the Grilled Octopus was missing from the in house menu even though the web site still lists it on the brunch menu. It was explained to us as the Restaurant is winding down certain items may not be reordered. We ordered cocktails and the gin and tonic was totally flat. We were offered another cocktail but our party member declined. So we settled on 3 pasta trios and the steak with potatoes and egg. After ordering we headed to the Antipasti bar. This wadthe biggest disappointment of the day. Having been to the brunch a number of times in the past we immediately noticed how sparse the table was. From past experience and from the description on the website, Saturday’s Antipasti table were 2 different things. Besides barely Luke warm tomato soup and cold mussels, there was an underwhelming Cesar Salad. The beef dish was very good as were the scones. There were no Italian cured meats and cheeses as we have been used to in the past. I will say that our entrees were very good! The tiramisu and the lemon cake were good but the s’mores cake and the Oreos cakes were actually tough! So even though we had very good entrees our overall last experience at Lidia’s Pittsburgh was so disappointing. We were hoping to have a great memory of a beloved Pittsburgh restaurant. My advice is that if Lidia’s Pittsburgh brunch can’t go out with a “bang” it might be advisable to not do it at all.

I'm so upset to learn that Lydia's is closing in September. This restaurant is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. I hope the waiters, waitresses, cooks and others working there find places to work that will honor their dedication.

Disappointing. We expected to have a special luncheon with the high standards of Lidia, who we watched on TV for so many years. It was apparent that the skeleton staff was preparing for the closing of the restaurant. They were cordial but inattentive. The pasta was not well prepared. We hardly recognized the bolognese sauce with our gnocchi. The second serving was somewhat better, but we had to wait a long time for it. It was not a good experience for us.

Sorry to hear Lidia's is closing, as it was one of our favorite Pittsburgh restaurants. Service is always exceptional, and up to now the food was great as well. I have left numerous glowing reviews in the past on various sites. We went after hearing of the impending closure, and it seems either they are cutting staff, or staff is leaving. I noticed a few things that weren't noticeable prior, such as the Pasta Trio service: in the past each pasta was brought out by an individual and served table side. This trip they just brought out a plate with each. Not as many servers or other staff was visible either. My fried calamari & shrimp appetizer was totally flavorless. The accompanying marinara sauce didn't help. My wife ordered a mixed green salad that was way overdressed, and she wasn't offered cheese or ground pepper as we had previously. Her entree of cannelloni was ok, but not hot. My salmon was truly excellent. We had been given gift cards by a relative and hoped to use them now as we just retired. We used it here, and still have a fair amount left to use or lose by Sept 15. At this point I cannot say if I care to bother if this visit was indicative.

Below-average service and food. Absolutely no taste to anything. Between the four of us, one liked his meal (baked ziti). Most of the pasta dishes are baked so obviously frozen ahead I'm thinking and my chicken was tasteless. The server, though pleasant, wasn't around enough and we went without water and beverages for the entire meal after our first round of water etc. Lidia's is closing and we wanted to say goodbye. Now, we aren't nearly as unhappy to see the restaurant go. The menu was tired, below average and something you could pick up in say olive garden--frankly, I'd rather have gone to Olive Garden (which I never do) because their salads are better and their food, though mass produced, has much more flavor.

Lidia's is a great restaurant, and the highlight of the menu is the Pasta Trio - three different pasta dishes served as many times as you want. We have had many great dinners there and lots of fun with celebrations of all kinds. Unfortunately, Lidia's is closing very soon. They are already short staffed, as employees find other jobs in anticipation of Lidia's imminent closing - and who can blame them? I understand that they will close around September 1, but would not be surprised if it happened sooner. It was packed Last Saturday as many of us wanted one last great meal.

I just expected way more and I was very disappointed. The food was mediocre. We have been to Italy many times, eat at Italian restaurants all the time. And I cook Italian. The never ending pasta is definitely a NO. I personally would never order it but some in our party did. Not worth the money. Pasta was over cooked and tasteless. The seafood pasta had plenty of seafood varieties but too much breading and definitely under seasoned. Wine selection was good. The Aperol Spritz was weak.

We were quite surprised and disappointed by the lack of quality and flavor to our food. This was our second visit to Lidia’s, but our first brunch time meal. We brought friends to experience this restaurant for the first time and one of them ended his meal prematurely after finding metal (like a piece of Brillo pad) in his pasta. Since we all had the same pasta, we all refrained from eating any more. Our server expressed her concern and management kindly removed the meals from our bill. We felt the issue was resolved with professionalism. However, as our meal was underwhelming, we will likely select a different dining option when traveling through Pittsburgh the next time.

First of all this was our first experience with Lidia’s although we were aware of the restaurant and were excited to dine here. The hostess was friendly and we were seated promptly. Our server Corey was not attentive at all. At no time were we asked how our food was, not offered salt or pepper. One of us had a unlimited pasta choice and was never asked if he would like refills. I asked for a lightly dressed Caesar salad and the lettuce was swimming in dressing. I had two bites and left it. The washrooms were disgusting and the first 3 stalls had no toilet paper. I could understand if it was a busy night, but it was not. Very disappointed with this restaurant.

Went out with my dad, my stepmother and our two teen daughters. The food was mostly good, although my seafood soup’s broth was under seasoned. Our waiter was definitely off his game, though. We waited too long for our food on a slow night. He only brought bread when the meal was served, despite several requests, and we had to wait for the wine and one of the appetizers.

We had a very positive experience at Lidias! Hostess was great but our server was exceptional. She knew the menu inside out. Her recommendations were spot on. Thanks for the experience!

Food was very good. Was pretty disappointed when we ordered Lasagna for dinner and was told that they didn't have any. It was prepared too late. Which that would have been told to us earlier. Was really looking forward to trying the lasagna.
