What Insiders Are Saying
The Progress, on Fillmore, is a great time and a good scene, with excellent food.
Very nice presentation and interesting combinations of foods. Very expensive! Definitely not the usual dining experience.
First time dining here and our palate was just blown away. We had a late reservation and they let us stay until 11:30pm and still provided 5 star service till the very end.
Delicious, beautiful, creative food in a lovely setting. Fantastique!
One of the best meals of our lives! It was a spectacular evening. A must in SF.
For a first timer from L.A., The Progress really left a huge impression on me. Talk about flavor... Hugh, the server, was amazing. Extremely attentive and made some very good recommendations with the drinks. Whenever I'm in the Bay area I'll definitely come back.
Decent food. The worst service I have ever had. Asked for menu suggestions, our server told us to read the menu as it speaks for itself. Would not return.
Food was incredible, and the service excellent as well! My girlfriend said she felt high from the food!
the food was so interesting and we were hard pressed to describe the style. the boquerones were absolutely freshest we’ve ever had and the sauce of creme fraiche and basil was excellent. the Croatian wine was a great match with this dish. the lamb tartare was also so different from what we have ever had. the raisins were a very nice flavor accent in this savory dish. Squid a la plancha was perfectly cooked and delicious.
Interesting food, but strangely set up - mainly plates to share and a few giant platters. Food very variable - some great, some huh? But extremely noisy - lots of loud parties, everyone shouting. Not a great experience.
Amazing food probably only outdone by the service staff. Kudos, will be back.
Had been waiting to try this restaurant for a long time, and it didn’t disappoint! The food and service were second to none. Would recommend any and every dish on the menu. Bring a group and an empty stomach because you will leave full
Always amazing food and service. Such a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to go back again.
Another wonderful meal at The Progress! From our greeting at the door, to service to the amazing food dinner could not have been better! Local seasonal ingredients with unique and intriguing flavors - everything was delicious!
The place was well reviewed so had some high expectations but unfortunately the food was really salty and the high quality ingredients that I am sure they were using were overpowered by it. There were some interesting takes on dishes but overall the good service could not overcome the let down of the actual food.
Food very unique and a fun atmosphere. Service is very good. A little noisy, but all in all a good experience.
Friendly, knowledgeable service and delicious, innovative preparation and presentation made a meal that exceeded our high expectations. We selected from the exterior of the menu and everything was delicious.
This is one of the few restaurants where, each time I go, I love everything I order. We've gone once in September and once in October and the menus were different. Nevertheless, we ordered what our waitress suggested and everything was dead spot-on. I can't recommend this place enough if you're looking to try some amazing combinations that just don't fail.
Went for our anniversary, and this was literally the best meal I've ever had, anywhere on earth. Insanely good food delivered via outstanding service in a cozy, fun atmosphere. Not cheap, but worth every penny.
Our party of 5 came to The Progress for a celebration and the experience was great. Even though we were a few minutes late, our meal felt relaxed and well-paced. The food was absolutely indulgent and delicious, each dish seeming to top the previous one. My favorites were the duck plate, squid ink pasta, and roasted brussel sprouts!! All were so unique. Restaurant is pricy, but the food is well-worth it.
Ambiance is quite nice - we were up in a little balcony with a few other parties but it felt almost secluded. Evening was wonderful and I would highly recommend to anyone for a special meal out!
Food was phenomenal. Unique, well complimented flavors with interesting presentation. Very friendly and attentive service as well. Will be back!
The Progress delivered on its high reputation. The food is outstandingly creative and delicious. The charred pole beans, which sounded rather humble, was almost our favorite dish; spicy and smoky and green-tasting. We loved the calamari a la plancha and the abalone -- amazing. The servers were cordial but not intrusive, and the people delivering each plate made sure we understood the dish and how it was made. Fun, delicious drinks including their non-alcoholic Buddha's hand soda. Desserts were creative and tasty. A beautiful ambience and the leisurely pace completed the experience. Thank you, chefs and servers alike!
Everything was impeccable!
Well excecuted creative kitchen. Good vibes and great service! Keep it up!
We had an incredibly memorable experience. There was a woman on her laptop and when we commented on it, somebody asked her to close it. Amazing food, excellent service. We’ll be back!
I've been here 4 times now and every time it has been stellar. I'm a fan and always bring my friends and family whenever there's a special occasion.
Innovative dishes. Interesting concept of shared apps, salads, sides with large protein plate, duck, lamb chops or pork near end of meal. It’s an example of why food, especially northern cal, is so unique, experimental & great. Btw just came from a week of eating in Paris
Our dinner at The Progress was one of our best ever meals. Service/server was great, knowledgeable and fun + expedient without being rushed. Each dish was beautifully presented and equally delicious, with wonderful and complex flavor profiles.
I had high expectations in anticipation of the restaurant and it surpassed them significantly. A true delight!
The food was absolutely incredible. Really thoughtful dishes that were equally tasty. I’m still thinking about the sturgeon caviar. Great part was that there was none of the pretentiousness that typically comes with farm-to-table food that is uniquely put together. Our server was lovely and so accommodating. The space was warm and welcoming and had none of the self-important attitude that so often comes with successful restaurants these days. Definitely will go back again and recommend to others!
outstanding. Very innovative menu. well executed. One of the best meals I have had this year.
Service was fine and small plates came out quickly ~ then suddenly we waited FOREVER for the entre' platter. Apologetic once we started to ask why it was taking so long but it still took to LONG. We had the lamb platter which was good but everyone else who ordered it got their lamb like baby rack lollipops~we would have preferred that. The waitress said that the cuts vary depending on the time of night, not lovin' that reason.
Best ambiance in San Francisco. The food was creative and delicious. The ham roti should not be missed.
Fun San Francisco hipster scene. The Progress is family style. It was just two of us dining, we shared 6 side dishes, it was plenty. Our server was friendly and informative. The tables are packed together - but the place yields a good vibe. the cocktails are so yummy. The Sunny Jim was my favorite. We will likely go back, but this time with friends, so we can take advantage the larger share plates.
Delicious food and great drinks. Highly recommended!
Four of us for dinner. Decided to graze the menu and enjoy some good wines we had brought (corkage for 2 bottles is reasonable). Started with the potato/caviar dish. I don't like caviar and I loved this dish. Every one else too!. We then did the lettuce/blue cheese/"crunch" appetizer. Another wow all around. We then did two servings of the lamb tartare...one of the best I have ever had. Two servings of Brussel sprouts, roasted potatoes with poached egg, abalone and then finished with the duck. All AMAZING. We were probably enjoying this all too much...and there was a party waiting for our table. Many times...this has been where restaurants have gone wrong...but not here. Such class. They took us up stairs to the private room. Desert and after drinks on them. We were so impressed...we did some more wine after that as we were all having such a good time. Thank goodness for Uber. Highly recommend this place...and so does the rest of my party. We so enjoyed it...we bought the cook book.
Creative, delicious, and wonderful. Especially the pig head charcuterie, which was done larb style.
Lovely birthday dinner. Service and food was impeccable!
I thought the entree was not very good (rib eye) and overpriced. I did enjoy some of the small plates, especially the lamb tartare.
Food is amazing! One of the best meals ever!
Food was good, but service was so rushed that it ruined the experience. The server started to clear our table halfway through most courses even though we were clearly not done (plates were half full)
I told the restaurant it was my wife’s birthday. They did absolutely nothing except for when we walked him we were asked whose birthday it was. Fail
