The food was excellent and the service matched perfectly! If you want a fine dining experience with fresh food this is the place to go.
Service provided by staff lacked the famous Greek hospitality.
Our server was slow and difficult to understand, not showing the expected dedication. The hostess that brought us to our table totally ignored us when we left (busy with cellphone).
The food quality was spot on but the quantity was (maybe ok for Baltimore) not worthy for a Greek restaurant.
A free appetizer of exactly two olives was provided and we paid $12- for only two grilled sardines.
Last but not least our part of the restaurant was empty and without music.
The restaurant has the potential to provide a nice Greek diner but unfortunately we were dissappointed.
The Bronzinnie was the best I've ever had. Highly reccomend it.
Birthday. Great food and service
Food and environment always good. However if waiter doesn't have knowledge of (Greek) wines, he should call in someone who does. Unfortunately a group seated next to us talked rather loudly through dinner about gallbladders and hospital procedures.
The service was outstanding and I have yet to ever find my food even the slightest bit disappointing. Perfect spot for an anniversary dinner.
Fantastic food, wonderful ambience!
Excellent Greek food. We took a friend to celebrate a birthday and every single morsel of food was eaten. The best sea bass ever as well as all the other dishes we ordered. No one rushed us to leave so we took all the time we needed to enjoy our meal and our celebration.
Outstanding meal, service and atmosphere. Everything is fresh and beautifully prepared. Lamb chops, scallops, seafood kabobs and Grandmas bread pudding were absolutely incredible. Adorable, authentic atmosphere! Loved it! Our second time here.
Great atmosphere and outstanding food & services from all the folks there....props to AC from appetizers to entrees.
Nice options that were not consistently executed well. Temperature were off. Crab cake had a lot of shells. Definitely over priced. Server was busy but lacked personality and was rushed - robotic.
Awful... menu is on a piece of paper. My boyfriend sent his meal back due to the fish not being grilled as stated on the menu, but instead the fish was served fried.. THEN, we were we offered a free glass of wine... even though I was drinking wine and HE was drinking BEER! So not only did he have to watch me eat my meal, but he had to watch me drink! Unreal!! Oh, and their complementary appetizer is 4 olives.. the first time we were there it was 2. So there’s an upgrade if you take the chance to go back....
Negative reviews I read are undeserved, such is the internet. The fish dishes are very good. This is a good mix of traditional Greek and an upscale fish/seafood restaurant. Server to Tony was exceptional and knowledgeable of menu items, dishes and time to table. The prices are good for the level of food and service. We will be back.
We had exceptional service from the entire staff. Fresh fish and other seafood, some of which has been swimming in the Mediterranean the day before, was on display and explained to us by our server. The food was well-prepared. The wine selection was an eyeopener as to Greek wines, both white and red. One of our party left his cane behind; the restaurant called us and we drove back, to find one of the staff waiting out front to give it to us!
Our server was so awkward that it contuined to make our experience odd. Varied menu and could have been A LOT more fun if he was better. We dine out extensively and we were both dissatisfied, due to the server. He was very nice and tried very hard. I believe his name was Sini or Simi. Definitely a language barrier in how he described the menu.
Food was perfect as always. Service and atmosphere as well. Would suggest serving hummus (which is amazing) with pure chips or pita bread. Regular bread was a little to heavy to dip with the hummus
The best experience— thanks to AC! Will definitely be back.
Perhaps the best piece of fresh fish we have ever had. We split a black bass that was done to perfection. Our waiter was tending bar, and made a nice perfect Manhattan, which we followed with the light, airy and delicious savory bread pudding. A great night.
The pictures and descriptions on the web do the Black Olive proud! Alas, the reality is much inferior... dark environment, some unplaceable odors, food struggling to prove their Greek identity and several items on the menu and wine list "not available". An exercise to be missed
great food, service, atmosphere... i’ve had 2 of the best meals of my life at Black Olive... wonderful street in Fells, creative menu and ingredients... great take on Greek food... will always be a place we come back to
Didn’t know who our server was since three servers came to us throughout the evening. Food was delicious, but not worth the price. Ambiance was lovely and overall experience was great.
Our favorite place for celebrating our anniversary. We always order the Dover Sole which is the best in Baltimore.
Food is always good. There were times that it took almost an hour and a half to finish lunch there. This time it was within an hour.
Best lamb chops ever. My wife’s Dover Sole was spectacular and reasonably priced.
Our only complaint was a lack of valet parking in a difficult parking area.
The Black Olive is one of my very favorite restaurants in Baltimore. Cozy intimate atmosphere, super fresh ingredients, fantastic flavors, and the baklava ice cream is a must, oh and the octopus salad too, and the fresh bread, and and I could go on and on. Must try it!!
very unique, choosing fish from an assortment of freshly caught fish and having is filleted right at the side or our table was lovely! Everything was very tasty.
There was no valet parking as described. Almost half the menu was not available. I understand that when your menu consists of fresh seafood a few items may not be available(even in season) but there were several. Our waiter was attentive and apologetic. They were even out of the vegetarian option. I reached out to the establishment and have not received a response. We went to celebrate our 10 yr anniversary and it was very disappointing.
Wonderful surprise gem of a Greek restaurant. The food was wonderful as well as the hospitality and service. The manager waited outside with us 19 minutes until a taxi she called for us arrived. Many thanks again.
Another visit to one of our favorite Baltimore restaurants did not disappoint at all.
We were seated promptly, greeted warmly by Michael, presented with fabulous crusty bread. The wine list had lovely offerings, my choice being the Assyrtico. The bread paired beautifully with the generous serving of melitzanosalata, a homemade eggplant dip. Some herbed black olives nearly stole the show as a gratis side.
Greek salad with luscious tomatoes, fresh cucumbers, olives and feta was totally fresh, as was my red snapper with a side of fish sauce.
Dessert of baklava (superb) and the patented baklava ice cream very satisfying.
Overall a great meal, as we've come to expect at the Black Olive.
Greek salad wi
Unexpected gem! Will be back. Fresh seafood and calorie friendly!
Best fish ever! Great Greek wine! A must do in Baltimore
Restaurant could improve by keeping my food warm and provide faster service. They seem to rest on a reputation for good fish but people who don’t know that feel like their level of service is horrible. Fish tasted okay but it was cold by the time it got to my mouth. Only acknowledgement of the special occasion came in the form of the waitress uttering a like warm happy birthday greeting at the end of apologizing for not finding the wine we ordered or having the dessert we ordered! Had to get up twice to ask where my waitress was and ask for some water. And not even a complimentary dessert was offered at the end. I just wanted to get it over so I paid the astronomical price just to get out. And even that took forever to get done. Overall bad experience but they have a reputation that may entice me to try it one more time. But I would have a tough time convincing everyone else who was with me that night to ever visit again.
Food great but NO VALET PARKING. Parked 2 blocks away. Fortunately weather was fine. Had I known I would have cancelled
muy malo....las entradas a precio de la carne más cara...el pie de espinaca es un engaño y lo venden al precio de las costillas de carnero y mal hechas dicen que son de Filo y es pura Masa.nos sentimos Timados y en el lugar hay muchas Moscas
Our server Tony, was outstanding, very knowledgeable & patiently answering our questions about the food. We highly recommend this restaurant.
I absolutely love Black Olive , however the dinner portion was skimpy another vegetable would have made the dinner perfect and the appetizer was lighter than my experience. Service was excellent as usual.
Not what I expected from reviews I have read. Servicer/food arrival was very slow. Crab cakes were not good at all. Ambience of place was nice though.
We tried Black Olive for restaurant week and were disappointed in many ways. Yes, the food we got was good, having salmon and bronzini/sea bass, both simply grilled with a lemony sauce added at the table. The sea bass was nicely filleted at the table. Each came only with a small side of a mashed sweet and white potato mixture that was decent, but no vegetable. The fruit cobbler dessert was very good. The negative aspects started with the icy reception at the front, the hostess barely acknowledging my presence and then seeming to have difficulty finding our reservation. Overall, she appeared bothered that we were there. We were seated and given two black olives (yes, just 2, one per person) and bread. The menu included their signature savory olive bread, which only after ordering it were we told was unavailable. At an adjacent table, another patron arriving later attempted to order it, because it was still on the menu and no one told them otherwise, only to be told after making the decision to get it that it wasn't available. Our server tried to make amends by making a greek salad to my tastes, adding extra tomato in addition to the usual feta cheese and one olive (yes, just 1). I guess this is called the Black Olive and not Olives for a reason. In addition, some menus included a dish of scallops (my all-time favorite, which I would have ordered had it been on my menu). So, some menus had the scallops listed, some didn't. Tip - UPDATE the menu, it's only printed on paper! The icing on the cake, or rather the lack of, came the next day, when we opened our left-over containers to make dinner only to find that the mashed potato side for one of the meals hadn't been included. We won't be back...
Food, cocktails, and dessert were meh - just ok. Waiter was great and steered us away from a bad cocktail.
The Black Olive has been our favorite restaurant for over ten years and it just seems to get better every time we eat there.
