The Dock is a neighborhood bar and restaurant that serves drinks and comfort bar fare in a friendly space. Chef James Syhabout supervises a simple menu offering creative appetizers and succulent entrées like sausages, salads, sandwiches and burgers. Other menu highlights include the Brussel sprouts, sunomono, chicken wings, grilled trout and flat-iron steak. Beer, cocktails and a small wine list round off the beverage menu. Situated next to the Linden Street Brewery, The Dock is a popular watering hole. Communal tables and a spacious dining area make it a nice fit for group outings. You can socialize and enjoy after-hours drinks with friends while indoors or in the adjoining beer garden. The Dock is open Tuesdays to Saturdays.

This is a decent restaurant. It's definitely worth a visit but, given the sheer number of better alternatives, it's probably not worth a return. The food was better than average. We both had the pork chop as an entree, a fair portion nicely prepared. I had bourbon pudding for dessert, which tasted as it should have. Service was attentive.

I wanted to visit The Dock before it closes in a week. I sincerely hope the planned overhaul improves the place, since the location is pretty cool, but food and service were wanting. We were sent to the brew house next door when we arrived 10 minutes early for our reservation, and promised the host would come and find us (the restaurant was about 2/3 full @ that point). After half an hour in the brew house, we checked again - the host had forgotten us, and seated us in the restaurant (still about 2/3 full). Our harried server did her best getting drinks and dinner orders but both took way too long. She offered to bring us free popcorn when she realized how long we'd waited for food - meals finally arrived in stages, and the popcorn showed up after the food. Three meals were OK, goddaughter couldn't stomach the chicken wings she'd ordered. Maybe the evening was a mess because of the announced closing, but don't hurry over before The Dock closes. Wait for the future iteration.

We had a wonderful time here. All the food was delicious and the cocktails we fantastic. ** A tip for my Gluten Free friends out there call ahead if you know where this is where you are headed and they will be extra careful about the fryer to ensure you have even more options.

This restaurant is in a rather isolated location. As such, it should be extraordinary and unfortunately it was not. The menu was standard fare: chicken, salmon, pork chop, hamburger, and a vegetarian dish. What we had was not particularly creative or tasty. Why drive there when a decent pork chop and hamburger can be had in downtown or by the lake? The appetizers are an odd mixture items which seem to have wandered onto the menu from several different countries - Poutine, jerked chicken, Korean mussels. The concept of this place is flawed. It seems like a drinks place that decided it could be a restaurant too. The drinks, btw - cocktails, wine, and beer - are the Dock's strong points. Hardly a destination spot.

Given the name chef behind this restaurant we were expecting more but found it just average. We read complaints about the service but that part was fine-however the restaurant was almost empty when we were there.

With the exception of the dessert, everything we ordered was overly salted. The food would have been very good otherwise. Chicken was cooked perfectly; nice and juicy inside and slightly crisp skin, but again, wayyyy to salty. Friend got the burger which they gave to him more rare than he likes (didn't ask how he wanted it cooked) and that was overly salted as well. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. Especially for the prices, I was expecting better.

The food and drink at The Dock are inventive and familiar at the same time. The wine and beer accompany their tastings nicely. The bartenders are attentive, and the wait staff friendly. The Dock is in a 125 year old Oakland building, remodeled to mirror the hip environment of much of Oakland's Jack London, Uptown and Temescal regions. A fun, slightly out of the way pub, to bring out-of-town guests and locals, alike.

We went to the Dock as an adult party because our grandsons were sleeping over at camp; next time we will bring them with us. The food was great, the service even greater. We shared everything we ordered - the halibut spread and the rillettes on potato bread were really good but we would probably skip the popcorn next time because the flavor was good but the popcorn sort of mushy. We shared two salads - Little Gem and Roasted Peach/Arugula - that were very tasty. The pork chop with spaetzle was fabulous as was the chicken. The S'mores dessert was out of this world and we are sorry we passed on the Bourbon Pudding but there will always be a next time. Next time will also include the mussels, for sure! Our waiter was outstanding and very friendly, as were all of the staff. A good selection of beers as well.

A fun place to go and enjoy the scene on a nice evening. But be advised, Menu has been redone so it's not as interesting. We had the roast chicken and chop which were both good and burgers which were not good. Fries were blah. The appetizer and burgers arrived at the same time then we waited 5 minutes for the other two entrees. Draft selection not great and beer glasses are too small.

Always a great food and service at The Dock! They are accommodating to gluten allergies . The manager, Ray, cares greatly about your experience there ! The winery next door, Campovida, is also 5 star! You can buy a bottle of wine at Campovida (The Dock's wine list is a bit limited), and bring it to the Dock, and Campovida pays the corkage fee. Wine or not... the Dock is not to be missed.

While our server was good, the host kept us waiting for 20 minutes past our reservation even though the place was half empty. The bartender did not want to assist us if we were not going to dine at the bar. Even after we were sitted, our food took forever to arrive.

I am very disappointed in how this restaurant has gone downhill. First, the menu is much less interesting than it was. Second, the beer menu no longer includes Linden Street beers, which is quite disappointing. Instead, it has too many Belgian style and sour beers. It is too bad as this once was an excellent and fun restaurant and was one of my "go to" restaurants.

I love The Dock's location (great free parking and lots of it) and its industrial strength atmosphere. The staff is stupendous! But the food is too quirky. They try too hard to be different when what I think they should really do is just simple stuff like a great hamburger and super good fries. I tried the pastrami on fries but it was a soupy mess, bathing in a sauce that I wish was not there. I ate about 1/3 of it and then decided it wasn't worth the calories for something I didn't particularly like. The asparagus side (which we 2 shared as an appetizer) was good but about $4 too expensive. Why do so many restaurant chefs think they have to get so ridiculously creative which then results in ... well ... a mess. I'd love to go back to The Dock and hang in the bar where they also serve food and they have lots of screens for watching the Warriors win their way to the top again. But make it simple, guys! BTW, their beer selection is interesting.

We ate at 8pm on Saturday. When we ordered, we were told the fish was not available. Three of us then ordered either the burger or the chicken sandwich. Quite some time later, we were told they only had one bun left, so two of us had to order something else. On a plus note, my wife said the fried chicken was very good. So in a sense, only 2 out of 5 entrees were available for a 8pm Saturday night reservation. Luckily, we were with friends we had not seen in a while, or the wait would have gotten on our nerves.

My cosmo was tasty, what there was of it. I hate being served a cocktail in a small aperitif glass. It really is so annoying. Attention, the kitchen makes no substitutions. I ordered the pork chop. When I asked if I could swap out the spatzel for something else I was told no, but they could provide more turnips that came with the half inch pork chop. What I received were 2 tiny turnips the size of radishes sliced in half. Don't eat here if you are hungry.

Easy parking. Good beer selection. I had a fine black lager. Bone marrow appetizer with interesting rice cracker one of the best I've had. Little gem salad tasty. Fried fish seemed small and over salted. But cauliflower accompaniment very good. Delicious biscuits but for $4 for two small ones, they were overpriced.

However, the main dishes were not served together which is a basic function of restaurants. My burger was under-cooked and was not satisfying. How do you get burgers wrong? We also had the pork and the ribs which were very good. This will not deter me from returning but certainly not for the unflattering burger. In fact, I would advise against the burger until The Dock decides to "beef it up!":

The Dock has been one of the restaurants I've wanted to try for a while. We started going over to Linden Street Brewery when it was just a brewery, with different food vendors out in front, if there was an event. The location is great and the interior of the restaurant is lovely. The food isn't the most imaginative around, but it is well-prepared and tasty. The problem is the service. All the staff were nice, but we sat for a long time before the first person checked in with us. She completely forgot our water, after we'd asked for it (I know it's not automatic in California and it shouldn't be). It took a long time for us to get our drinks and then a long time to get our food orders in. The wine I'd ordered to go with my entree showed up about halfway through my eating it. We were with good friends and so we didn't mind spending so much time waiting, but this makes me not all that excited to go back.

Very solid place overall. Dishes ranged from okay (Caesar popcorn) to great (porkchop). The short rib which my friends had was good but needed some sort of sauce. Service was good without being overbearing. There was a good variety of drinks as well. The punch bowl is an excellent value as it was more than enough for the 4 of us. Very much looking forward to returning and trying some different dishes.

I was hesitant because some of the only bad reviews I saw were about the service, but I really loved our waitress. She was friendly and attentive enough, had good suggestions. We really enjoyed our cocktails as well as the appetizers we shared. We had the wings and the brussel sprouts, which were by far the best part of the meal! I had the mussels as my main, and it was plenty. The collard greens were great. The mussels were also good, but I had one bad one, which was unfortunate, but could happen anywhere. My date had the risotto which he liked, but he'd probably try something else next time. We would definitely go back. And we followed up dinner with a tasting at the adjacent wine bar, which was a nice end to the night.

Sadly this was our fourth visit and our last as The Dock is not nearly as good as it was last year. The menu was much more restrictive, the small sharing plates seemed to have all but disappeared. The choice of main courses was extremely limited, not especially innovative and in the case of the trout was small even for a person such as myself with a small appetite. The French Chardonnay was not at all smooth, it was thin and acidic and not worth $12- I left half of it. It is hard to believe this restaurant is run by a chef with two Michelin stars - the choice of food and wine belies that fact.

Wasn't even aware this restaurant existed and its off the radar location was intriguing. The food was just okay. The brussel sprouts were amazing but all other food sort of fell flat, not bad, not good, just meh! The cocktails were great and I 'd come back for them, especially on a warm day. However to come for cocktails only you need oto come at an off time to sit at the bar. Otherwise you're delgated to the Beer Shed, which is exactly like it sounds. You can get all of the food and cocktails from the regular menu there but ambience is more pub/sports bar and any drinks other than beer come from the restaurant next door and will take forever. I would give this place another try but for drinks and appetizers, not a full meal.

We had dinner at The Dock on a Friday night to celebrate a 30th birthday of one of our party. We tried most of the appetizers and many of the entrees. Our waitress was attentive but not overly so. She let us enjoy our meals but was at the table when we needed her. The food was delicious and the menu was small but with a great variety. If you wine taste at Campo Vida, the corkage is comped. We will definitely be back.

I'm really not someone to complain about service, but it was understaffed and attention was understandably spotty. (I would rather have had the knife I dropped to the floor then none for the whole meal because someone picked it up and never came back with a new one.) The food doesn't have much variety, which would have been okay, except it wasn't remarkable, and there wasn't a lot of it for the amount of money . I've been to Commis a couple of times, was intrigued because the chef who started it also started The Dock; but I couldn't find a sign of his signature in the food. Maybe it will flourish for a while because it's trendy, because of the link to Commis, and because it's in the cool warehouse district near JL Square. But unless it gets its act together and begins to serve great food and afford more people to help, I think it will burn out--as opposed to places like A Cote or Trattoria Corso, that just keep going.
