Clio Restaurant, now known as Uni, is a modern Asian cuisine restaurant in Boston. The chic and simplistic look inside lends to the overall creative and fresh ambience present in this location. Uni gives you an innovative selection of traditional Asian meals by offering sashimi, nigiri and maki rolls alongside hot or cold sushi dishes. The two executive chefs and business partners, Ken Oringer and Tony Messina, work to make sure the menu doesn't become stale and always features something new and different. Try the Tai Snapper with myoga and mango or the Hamachi Duet Yellowtail with banana, black truffle and pork belly croutons. With your meal you can enjoy sipping on any of the classic wines, beers and spirits offered at Uni. One unusual addition to the bar list is Japanese Sake. Authentic Sake can be difficult to find, but it is served at the restaurant.

Clio has closed for good. The food was excellent, winning many awards and accolades over the years. I had the nine-course tasting menu and, while I had many tasty courses, did not feel overstuffed when I left. The dishes were as beautiful to look at as they were delicious to taste. While all were memorable, the one I will mention was a kind of a custard with mushroom and abalone floating on top. A smokey flavor was added, not directly to the custard but to the air over the custard, from a small pile of smoldering wood twigs extinguished and covered by an abalone shell. The smell was a lovely addition to the overall experience of the dish. The last service was on December 30.

Clio has been our favorite Boston restaurant for several years. Unfortunately it's closing--or, rather, transforming itself into something different. This was the chef/owner's personal choice, despite his recent success, so I guess we'll just await the new incarnation and hope for the best.

Although all of the dishes we tried were fantastic, the lobster cassoulet, foie gras and crab and lobster dumplings out shined the rest. The cocktail menu was much larger and more creative than expected, and the drinks were delicious.

clio is closed anyway - but our experience was a disappointing one: it was praised by many, but did not reach the high standards... may be because it was closing in a week - so there was no point to do the best

For a long time, Clio has been an institution in Boston. It is with regret that one sees it closing. The latest experience reinforced the long held opinion. There was only one complaint: The loudness of the background music! In a small dining room, with high density tables, filled to maximum, loudspeaker music is counterproductive!!! Otherwise, the Clio classics, dating back decades was an added and welcomed reminiscence.

We heard so many good things about Clio and finally decided to try it. However, the dinning experience was so bad that I decided to write a review. We waited for more than half an hour despite the fact that we had a reservation. During our long wait, we looked at an empty table in front of us. That was our table. For some unknown reasons, we had a long wait for a table that was ready for us. We had high expectation on Clio's testing menu. That might be the reason why I felt so painful eating those dishes. Each course looked great on the menu, but they did not taste as good. Most of the courses were too salty. The combination of pretty ingredients and colorful jus did not contribute to satisfactory taste. We were particularly unhappy when eating our main course and Foie Gras. The only course that we liked was the dessert sorbet. For a tasting menu over $120, I expected much more than what were offered to us.

When I went to Clio thay give us Oister with "COMBU". "COMBU" is Japanese traditional seasoning. That was first time to eat Oister with "COMBU" "COBMU" can accererate Oister's taste! That's amazing!

It was amazing. We actually did not do the tasting menu but instead created our own by sharing a few appetizers. The crab and lobster dumplings were the best. Our meals were incredible! Despite being full, I ordered dessert. I was a little nervous because I was already really full but the Concord Grape was so delicate and delicious it was totally and completely worth it! By far one of the best restaurants in Boston.

Clio continues to offer food that is among the best in town. Among the current offerings the crab and lobster dumplings and the carrots really excel. The menu however is getting old and the transition of the room to a new taste is justified as long as Chef O continues to be the creative force here. The service is spectacular and lets hope that does not change.

I was there by myself and I ordered the oysters that were prepared with unexpected but perfectly balanced flavors. I ordered the short ribs from the tasting menu and they were so tender that they fell apart in my mouth. The squash and sauce made this memorable. The server was friendly and knowledgeable. A Delight from beginning to end!

we had such a wonderful dining experience here couple of years ago, my husband wanted to return for his birthday. drinks and service, terrific! but what has happened to the level of cooking? bordered on mediocre to just plain bad. waste of $600, there were four of us and we all agreed. maybe we just hit a bad night but won't be returning any time soon.

It was listed in 36 hours in Boston in NYT we had been there when Ken was a star chef. Unfortunately the experience was disappointing ,kitchen appears tired and resting on its oars food is good but not of past caliber also skimping on expensive ingredients but not on the price charged Service , hostess at front desk atrocious complained to manager readily admitted team is new unpolished and green When we arrived were told will not seat us till whole party arrived , but when we returned had already seated our guests we had planned on champagne welcome toast for them it did not arrive till we were well into second course. Foam on every other course on tasting menu was tiresome and boring Bill was four was $ 700 + Boston has a very exciting and energetic food offerings in all price bracket, Cleo is the one to avoid

We went to Clio after the Boston Symphony for a light meal and drink. I have a gluten and dairy allergy which was pretty challenging for the kitchen - my some serious help from our server I found something to eat. My boyfriend is very patient and watched as the server and I negotiated what was possible - if it weren't so late, I would have offered to leave and go to the sushi restaurant across the way.

Food was indeed memorable. The two of us arrived in time but our table was not ready and we were invited to wait at the bar, which we did for about 10-15 min. It was a missed opportunity for Clio to "wow" us: the bartender didn't invite us to the drink we had; he were not at least offered to transfer the bill to the table. Talking into consideration that our table bill was near $500, doing that would have been a relatively small but memorable detail.

The staff was great, they remembered our anniversary and made every attempt to make sure our experience was a good one. We got the 9 course tasting menu and many of the dishes were fabulous (scallop and short rib) others were left a little flat. The best part of the meal was the side order of seared goose liver - it was unbelievable! Overall a nice experience, but relative to other French restaurants in Boston, it wouldn't be on the short list.

We chose Clio for our 39th wedding anniversary but I must say we were disappointed this time. The last time we dined it was for birthdays in 2008 so it was time to return. Ken Oringer used to be the chef, but on October 3, 2015 there was a different chef and the meals were disappointing. Served on brown plates, everything on our plates were also brown. The vegetables the protein, I couldn't really tell what I was eating. And one last thing I am not sure the restaurant has any control over but there is no suggestion of preferred dress and my goodness does it show. Right down to one of the male greeters who looked more like a mechanic, tee shirt and jeans than someone welcoming guests in a fine restaurant. It sets a tone and for other guests who were dressed similarly. It was not the pleasant up scale experience I was hoping for. The background music didn't seem appropriate either for such a lovely room.

We recently had brunch here and liked it a lot. The galette with bananas was especially good, as was the French Toast and the three-cheese omelet. Service was very courteous and attentive without being overbearing. The room was lovely. The only downside: the portions were on the small side, given the prices charged (beverages also were a bit pricey). Still, this was a very nice experience, and we'd gladly come back here for brunch.

Clio is a must-try. Every dish was bursting with flavor combos that I have never tasted. The chef is fond of foamed milk but does it very well. Lobster casolet was our first sea urchin experience! Generous use of mushrooms, all were fantastic. The ambience could be cozier. Better for colleagues or relatives than lovers.

The restaurant is located right off the street so, if you're not staying at the Eliot, you'd never even know it's located in a hotel - not a minus or anything, just mentioning. It has a bit more of a casual feel than I expected but, as a lady, I'd still err on the side of upscale, as it is worthy. When you walk in there's a small hostess area then one immediate step up to a small bar, and directly off that is the dining room. Both are small and intimate. They have a very interesting drink menu, and use a lot of fresh ingredients such as fresh herbs and fruit, so it's worth getting there early for a pre-dinner cocktail. The service is very warm and friendly, not stuffy at all, and everyone is very welcoming. We noticed most servers were on the young side and maybe not top level (experience wise) but were still knowledgeable and friendly and made our dining experience enjoyable. We went due to their reputation for excellent food, and it did not disappoint. There are several menu/course options to choose from, both with wine pairings and without, and they explain all, yet still remain flexible if you want to change something up. We were also given a couple "chef's gifts" small, gratis bites of deliciousness, which were a nice touch (and so yummy). All our dishes were tempered correctly, texturally pleasing, nicely presented and taste-wise right up there, probably in my top 10 (and i have been to MANY). I would recommend!!

We had a lovely celebratory dinner. Food was outstanding. My husband had the 5 course tasting menu and loved it not a course went wrong- he even liked the beets. I ordered a la carte because I was dying to try the lobster and crab ravioli and I was not disappointed, they were delicious, one of the best dishes I have eaten in the last couple of years. Service was excellent. Only thing a bit off was the playlist for the background music that on several occasions had us looking up going "what the heck?" nothing offensive, just jarring for such a refined space.

I cannot believe how bad our meal was. We had the 9 course tasting menu and fewer than half the courses were satisfactory. Most had too much food for a 9 course tasting menu. I had previously been to Clio in January 2014 and was amazed at how good the food was. This place has taken a serious nose dive. Also, the wait staff was remarkably inexperienced and not very knowledgeable. There was no timing or tempo to the meal. The wine pairing was often poured at least 10 minutes before the course came out and often the waiter would just read (and mispronounce) only what was on the label. Once, a glass was poured while I was in the rest room and I had to ask the waiter to tell me what the wine was. I won't return to the place.
