Antica Trattoria is a warm restaurant with an old-fashioned sense of hospitality that quickly became a gathering place for dinners in Lake Murray and the rest of San Diego when it opened in 2001. For Executive Chef and Owner Francesco Basile, good cuisine is about honest flavors, fresh ingredients and simplicity. That's the kind of food he grew up eating by the seaside in Sicily and it's what he learned in culinary school in Italy.

The bruschetta is the best in town. I often order brasato, and it is consistently delicious. We had cannoli for desert, which was very good. Always quite a few people there, so we make reservations, even on an off night. This restaurant is a definite neighborhood gem.

My wife and I are from out of town but Antica Trattoria was close to our hotel. We LOVED the food. She had the Penne and I had the veal. Delicious. Staff was very friendly and efficient. We will be back.

We went for my boyfriend’s birthday. The calamari, salad, lasagna and the mushroom pasta dish were excellent. Our waitress and the other waitstaff were very attentive. This is by far my favorite east county restaurant.

Wonderful yummy dinner! I had the pumpkin martini. Very Good! The ravioli was awesome, so glad it's back. Others in my party had the salmone, filet, and calamari. It was very busy,and the team work was amazing! You feel as tho your part of the big italian family! Be sure to make reservations!

I loved my fist experience here and loved that they had a no corkage fee for Wednesdays. It’s definitely a nice way to save a little money but still be able to enjoy wine and a wonderful dinner. Food was delicious and our service was perfect!

Amazing hidden gem in La Mesa. Place was beautiful, service was fantastic and the food was wonderful. The only reason I knocked off a star for food was because of the dessert we took home. I took home 2 pieces (was talked into it because "they are small," which they were actually quite dense) and the cake was terrible. It wasn't sweet and it had a weird consistency. I had my daughter try it - she spit it out. So, 2 pieces of $12 cake a piece, in the garbage. So, skip dessert!!

Polpettine$17.00 Braised Nonna's meatballs + San Marzano tomato sauce + Mediterranean olives + whipped ricotta; was the best bowl of deliciousness that I've ever had!! I couldn't stop eating it, and with each bite the huge party in my mouth it delivered was incredible. Vino? Fabulous Cab house.... You will never be disappointed eating here.

Had last minute birthday plans and wanted to try something new. Hadn’t been there before and man! Bring a bucket and a mop for the WAP because every bite was cream in my pants worthy. We did the chefs special and it was such a good deal!! Service was impeccable and food was delicious!!! Chefs kiss* I and the short ribs and man did they not disappoint!

My wife and I live down the street and have been coming here for the last 6 years or so. Every time we are there the experience is wonderful and really are treated like “part of the family” it’s not just a great place for some Italian food, it feels and tastes like a Sunday dinner at “Nonna’s house”

We booked outside, but they overbooked for a party of 30 there, so they moved us inside. I should have cancelled, but we were eating with other people. It was much too noisy in the middle of the restaurant where we were seated. We were not happy campers. I am a regular here, but did not enjoy this visit.

From Aurora at the front desk who brings a remarkably welcome experience to Heather, our favorite server whose attention to genuinely friendly service assures an always superb dining experience, to food that goes beyond perfect preparation, Antica is number 1! When the owner himself comes to our table several times wanting to do whatever it takes to make dinner fabulous, you know why this is our favorite.

We were seated in the patio, outside the front door of the restaurant. MUCH quieter out there, and the ambiance is awesome. I was impressed by our waitress, Heather; not so much by the person who was tasked with bringing us water, garlic bread, etc prior to the meal (felt like he forgot about us). As usual, the food was great, with one small exception - the pork chop was overdone. However, since it takes quite a while to prepare and cook the pork chop, I simply accepted it as it was. Otherwise my guests would be finished before I was beginning.... Just the same, I LOVE this restaurant, and will be back again and again.

Food and wine are very good. Service was great at first, but then I was abandoned for a while, waiting a long time for my desert. The bartender disappeared, I asked, and no one was helpful.

The food and service is great as it always is. We really love coming to this resturant. Tonight was a little different as a couple of things made our experience a little.less enjoyable. One of the buyers was drying silverware and I stead of placing them gentle inthe holder her was tossing them which made a clanging sound every few seconds, over and over again. Another buyer was using a spray to clean the tables that was very strong and the fumes from the spray made for a very unpleasant atmosphere.

Food was delicious. Short on staff, so service was slow, but we were fine with that. Server and bus boy were very nice. I wish we lived closer.
