What Insiders Are Saying
For classic French food in Georgetown, head to Chez Billy Sud.
This is our third dining experience (1 lunch, 2 dinners). It is a real pleasure each time. Agnes took care of us with total professionalism, but friendly and full of humor. The food is delicious, the wine list reasonable and the service is terrific. With plenty of menu options at fair prices we plan to visit again, and it need not be a special occasion.
First visit for us and will not be the last-a wonderful French country focused restaurant-service was perfect, food excellent and the ambience is special
They also have a wonderful patio for warm times of the year and a lovely bar/restaurant
Always a lovely experience. Service is always quite good, but our waitress was exceptional this visit - efficient and very pleasant, but not intrusive. We never felt rushed but also never lacked for anything. We very much appreciate that there is no loud blaring music - conversation is easy. Chicken liver mousse and duck leg confit were standouts. Trout is also always done nicely. Will definitely return.
We did brunch at Chez Billy Sud on Sunday. This place is a great little French restaurant tucked into a side street in Georgetown. That didn’t stop people from finding the place, definitely a hot spot for brunch, we made reservations and we were told they are needed.
Chez Billy has a great brunch menu offer traditional brunch dishes along with French classics. The cheese plate was fantastic, the homemade raisin bread paired excellent with the variety of cheeses.
The Pan Perdu was incredible, rich, but not too sweet. I had no complaints with anything. Our server was great, she was very attentive and the brunch cocktails are really go.
Definitely recommend for brunch and we look forward to going back some evening for dinner.
Reserve well in advance. Very popular. Excellent food. $100 for 2 without wine.
We love these place! Food and service were great! The place is beautiful and noise level perfect for conversation. Planning to come back to get the amazing Thone/tuna and delicious ñoquis! It’d be great if they add more vegetarian options
Second time at Chez Billy Sud and did not disappoint! Our server was a joy and we really enjoyed her recommendations. They have an excellent wine list with moderately priced bottles, which is amazing for this type of restaurant. The butternut squash soup and the escargot were wonderful.
Family get together
I always enjoy dining at Chez Billy, but the fact that you still don’t have espresso is amazing. The Europeans drink espresso after most meals, and coffee just isn’t the same. Otherwise, no complaints.
This restaurant is one of my new favorites. I don't live in DC (I live in NYC), but have already been here three times since discovering it this summer. Good classic French bistro food with a bit of updating, and wonderful cocktails. The service is good without being stuffy, and the space is beautiful -- a little jewel box!
Not great food and poor service...for supposedly upscale restaurant. Extremely disappointed. Was our 2nd time there (which had been good). Perhaps just ordered wrong items. Found fish and salad super salty. Server and supporting staff were OK...but not well trained for a white table clothed restaurant. Examples---Server really pushed nightly special (almost obnoxious); removed some plates off table...when my husband was not finished eating; support staff poorly dressed (guy clearing table...looked like he worked in the back with a dirty towel hanging from back of pants). Bottomline--would not go there again and spend the money we did.
Amazing staff, delicious food, what more could you want?
The setting, the food, the service were all excellent. Happy happy happy to go back and especially to see Agi our server again. The duck confit and butternut squash soup were damn good. The cocktails and really all we enjoyed exceeded expectations. Thank you for a lovely evening.
The butternut squash soup was excellent. The trout, itself, was delicious -- however, it was swimming in a pool of oil and the sauce looked coagulated. Our server was excellent -- attentive and friendly.
Chez Billy hit it out of the park again. My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary there and the waitress we had was very nice and the food was excellent. They even included complimentary glasses of sparkling wine. It was a great experience and we will be celebrating our anniversary there every year!
Everything was wonderful especially the food and service!
Great food, service and value. Going back many more times. Great bar in.other building.
We love Chez Billy Sud and eat dinner there about twice a month. The food is classic French with some contemporary touches, the wine list is excellent, the service is attentive and personable, the ambiance very attractive and inviting. The warm greeting at the front door is the best. We took ourSan Francisco daughter and a dear friend last Friday night and the friend wrote: "how utterly delicious and satisfying the meal was! The food became the backdrop, the underpinning of our engaged conversation and lively discourse. Unlike at Geranium (world-renowned Copenhagen restaurant she ate in last month)where the food ruled, last night it added simple grace and delight to our evening--the fresh green salad, the warm delicious bread. You can tell, I enjoyed every minute!"
We had a lovely late lunch (1:30) to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
Food was wonderful, service was great and the restaurant provided us with a sparkling wine drink to celebrate - a perfect lunch. At that time of day the restaurant offered a quiet haven for conversation and a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
Great food, service and pleasant atmosphere would recommend
We had a wonderful dinner with an excellent wine and a delicious desert. It is a small restaurant with an intimate setting. Service was outstanding. We plan to return.
The food and service was excellent. Best of all, the restaurant is quiet and you can have a great conversation without struggling to hear.
We were visiting in DC and Chez Billy Sud was recommended to us by a local. We started with a signature drink at the bar. The bartender was terrific! She was friendly, informative, and made a superb cocktail! Our server was great too. He advised us well, and the food was amazing! We split a caramel rice pudding for dessert that was better than any we'd ever tasted. And our bartender surprised us with a complimentary after dinner drink.
Overall outstanding experience! We would absolutely return again.
I am French, I am new in Georgetown so I thought I would try Billy Sud. It was exactly what I was hoping for. Lovely place, lovely professional staff and very good casual French food perfect for my Sunday lunch. I had a simple but delicious omelette aux herbes fines avec une salade verte.
Great place. Will be returning.
A great spot near the Georgetown waterfront - classic, well accomplished French inspired food and inventive cocktails. One of our favorites.
Absolutely fantastic evening. Intimate space with delicious innovative dishes. Started with a duck egg poached in red wine, I was uncertain until I took my first bit. Then moved onto braised beef cheeks, succulent! My partner started with the butternut squash soup that was delicious and had the duck confit, always a favorite dish for her. This one ranked at the top of her list. Service was attentive, friendly and complemented the quality of the meal. Next time we're in town we will certainly be back.
Amazing experience every time. Definitely recommend.
Definitely one of.The best restaurants I've ever been to in my 64 years!
Great place. Adam gave great service. I see us going back often.
You will feel as if you have been transported to Paris. Outstanding food, wide selection of different likes, no rush service and reasonable prices for the quality of the food and service you will experience. For me, it's a go to place.
A wonderful dining experience. One of the best in DC. Fantastic food in an unpretentious environment.
The food is great, especially brunch. Perfectly-cooked omelette and yummy croque-madame. They should really get an espresso machine.
Food was excellent and service was superb. Charming restaurant and friendly staff. Cocktails were great as well.
Fantastic dinner and service. Atmosphere is fun with a group or just a date. Highly recommend.
The food is always good here although the menu seems to work better in cooler seasons. Staff are friendly and competent.
Best brunch in town!
Our experience was fantastic and our waitress Auggie was phenomenal!
