Ate at Zero Restaurant while staying at the hotel and am so glad I did. This is no ordinary hotel restaurant...Charleston should feel lucky to have Chef Vinson Petrillo.
We celebrated our anniversary at Zero Restaurant. This was our second time dining there and it was even more enjoyable than the first (which was going to be hard to do). We were seated in a smaller room on the second floor which was very pleasant and romantic. Our server was very attentive and coursed the meal out nicely. The shellfish trio was fantastic and the rib-eye was melt in your mouth delicious. The start of the meal, surprisingly, was the tres leches dessert. We were both blown away with this dish and it was such a wonderful finish to a very special meal.
Perfect in every way. It was so nice to have an evening with friends in a restaurant with fabulous food, an environment that invited conversation, relaxing and wonderful attentive service.
Based on the description of the restaurant I read on the internet, we made reservations. Our dinner was a chef's tasting menu. The courses were inventive and interesting. Our first course included a "potted plant," which was actually baby radishes buried in a soft dip and covered with "dirt." You pulled the radish out of the dirt and enjoyed it covered in the dip. We enjoyed every course and the interesting sides. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant if you are a foodie. If you are a "meat and potatoes" person, you might not appreciate the exotic ingredients. But we absolutely loved it. Our waitress was delightful and added to our enjoyment. P.S. The premium wine pairing is worth every penny. The wines were superb.
The best meal & cocktails we had on our weekend visit to Charleston.
I complained about my meal and the staff member was unresponsive. Considering I spent $200 on the meal I expected a much better experience and response
One of the top tier tasting menu spots in downtown Charleston near to the Gaillard Center and short walk to Waterfront Park and Central Market district. Perfect wine pairings and unique outdoor dining area suited for nearly all types of weather.
Great service. Inventive cuisine. Everything was perfectly cooked. In fact, the lobster was the most tender I've ever eaten. For me, I found just about every dish to be slightly under salted. Would have brought out the flavors more.
Also, it was not clear where the entrance/exit to the restaurant was located. Not well marked.
The taste treats are amazing. We have done a private tasting too and blew our guests away.
Our friends had such a good time this time too. Amazing service.
When you come into the bar there should be someone to take drink orders when the bar is full
Excellent and unusual scallop appetizer, and excellent wines by the glass. My only reason for only giving four stars for food was that the steak (ordered medium-rare) was close to medium-well. They readily offered to replace it - a nice and appropriate action - but even the replacement was good but not great. Pumpkin latte cocktail excellent.
The Chef’s ambitions exceed his abilities. The food was inventive but over cooked with unbalanced sauces and salt. We tried to cancel but they told us there was a $50 Cancellation fee!! The restaurant was empty except one other table.
Zero George never disappoints; one of the most creative kitchens in town, and that says a lot in a city like Charleston !
Outstanding! One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time
Very nice high-end place in Charleston. Food was very good, service was excellent. Options are relatively limited...only fixed price menus with a few options each. Food tasted great, although portions could have been a bit larger.
We celebrated my husband’s birthday. Thoroughly enjoyed the presentation of the art with each course. The food was incredible. The Chef’s wine pairings were perfect selections. The service was wonderful. We will definitely return!
Great night, lovely for an anniversary dinner. The wine pairings were great!
We ate at Zero George the night after our wedding for our first dinner as a married couple. While the ambiance is fantastic, we made a note on the reservation indicating we had just gotten married the prior night (we got married at Cannon Green - which is under the same ownership group); however, when we arrived, neither the host nor our wait staff had any idea. Overall, while the food was good, we've had significantly better meals with better service at several other Charleston restaurants for much less money. Overall, while we were glad we tried Zero George as it had been on our list for a while, we were disappointed with the overall experience, especially for the price point. We will not be back.
The bar is very noisy and we had to wait as we arrived a little early for our reservation.
It seemed like the chef was trying too hard to make it very unusual. The finger foods were sticky to pick up and then you felt like you needed to get up to wash your hands. Could be a great experience with different food. Also would suggest better signage as it was difficult to find.
good, but ridiculously expensive, better value elsewhere
Love love love this place. Food was amazing and our server Jessa was fantastic!
We had a late seating at Zero George after having driven for several hours for a quick getaway in Charleston. The tasting menu read like a dream, and complemented very well with both the recommended and elevated wine pairings. The presentations were very creative and palette pleasing with seasonal foods. We've had tasting menus in some of the finest restaurants in the world, and highly recommend Zero George for foodies and winelovers.
Beautiful anniversary dinner.
Great meal, wine pairings, service, and atmosphere. My new favorite Charleston restaurant!
We go to this location every now and then when we feel like having a unique dining experience. For $200 a person we had countless, unique and delicious plates paired with wines you just don’t hear about or see every day. The experience is worth the price, from the cosy atmosphere to the expert and attentive service to the truly delicious, curated and manicured plates. Pro tip - Get there early, grab a cocktail and head upstairs to the drawing room or veranda while you await your table, or go for an after dinner drink.
Delicious and creative as usual. Service is particularly excellent.
This is our third trip to Charleston and Zero George was by far the best dining experience EVER. So very quaint and quiet, service bar none, and the food spectacular! If you are going to Charleston go to George.
Truly unique dishes. I was amazed at the flavors achieved in the micro elements. Wonderfully exiting experience with a huge range of colors, textures and techniques. Wow. Loved every bite!
We had the chef’s tasting menu with wine pairings, which was exquisite. The perfect location for our wedding anniversary!
Cocktails are incredible. Ambiance is good. Food is good but overpriced for the tasting menu. Some dishes were amazing, others just mediocre. Presentation of the dishes is excellent
We took a short 3 day family vacation and wanted to enjoy the ‘Best’ that Charleston had to offer.
Zero did not disappoint.
We did the tasting menu, and each dish was more special than the previous...and our server was terrific - knowledgeable, attentive and informative.
Server was horrible. No personality at all and not helpful at all. Lighting was so dark you couldn't even read the menu. Restaurant was hot. Bathrooms were dirty and had a bad odor. Table and chairs were even uncomfortable. No flexibility in the menu. Had heard amazing things and was horribly disappointed.
This was my second visit to Zero George. The first time I ate here I was blown away and thought it would be a perfect spot for a romantic date night. Unfortunately, the outside dining area was not appropriately sprayed for mosquitos and we had to be moved inside almost immediately. Everything that we ordered was good but not fantastic as it was the first time. At that price point, it should be fantastic everytime.
Amazing presentations, surprising combinations, absolutely delicious, fresh ingredients. Don’t moss this restaurant when you’re in Charleston.
What an experience. Will never forget this meal and impeccable service my husband and I received. Will certainly want to return.
This was my first time to Charleston and I was so excited about the culinary scene there. I always do extensive research in preparation of trip to solidify reservations.
Zero has been noted in many articles about being an outstanding culinary experience in Charleston, and it did not disappoint!
The dining area is small, so be sure to plan ahead and grab a reservation in advance (I booked about a month out). We paid the extra money to do the wine pairing and it was so worth it. You get generous pours and yes, I absolutely left with a buzz! The wait staff is knowledgeable and give you a great explanation of each course (we had something called a "fois g'waffles" fois gois in between thin wafers. SO GOOD). We were stuffed by the end of the meal! The meal itself took about 1.5-2 hours since there are quite a few courses.
I'm so glad we spent the time and money at this restaurant. I was blown away! Thank you for the experience!
Amazing food, wine pairings and professional staff. Loved that we came in through the kitchen. We hope to come back and would recommend everyone despite the price
Fantastic food and wine pairing. Celebrated our Anniversary and the experience was superb. Very impressed!
Amazing place and an incredible meal
The most inventive menu with delicious surprises in every bite. The service was exceptional and approachable, and the space was so intimate and authentic.
Zero is a beautifully quaint, romantic gem of a restaurant. The staff was friendly and attentive(Amy our server was nothing short of amazing). My wife and I had the three course menu tasting(there is also a full menu tasting... we opted against the wine pairing because the cocktails were working just fine!). The food was otherwordly. The Spanish Octopus was my favorite, the tortellini was delicious(understatement).. and the halibut was perfect. Amy(our server) walked me through my 1st time eating caviar(I liked it! Lol). We both had the tres leches for dessert and it Left us speechless. Living in the tri state area amd having eaten at some of the best restaurants in and around NYC, my expectations can be heightened a bit; that said, Zero is EASILY one of the best meals I have ever eaten. My wife and I cannot wait to return.
