Filipino
Milkfish Restaurant represents traditional Filipino Cuisine prepared with farm to table ethics and New Orleans upscale technique and execution. Chef Cristina Quackenbush has developed this concept through more than a decade in professional restaurant service which has allowed her to represent her families recipes in an upscale setting. The menu features bold flavors, some uncommon ingredients, and diverse options. As such, we have come to characterize the cuisine as Southeast Asian Soulfood. The staff consists of hospitality professionals and the Chef and her family are excited to introduce New Orleans to Philippine Cuisine. Mabuhay, Welcome and enjoy.

Milkfish has fabulously different flavors from anywhere in New Orleans. We are sad to hear that they are temporarily closing and looking for a new location. Hope to find them in pop ups for now, and then in a new location soon! Best of luck to Milkfish and its future.

I normally get the Spam Fried Rice, Lechon Kawali and the Sissig! The food is simply amazing and a must try if you haven't tried it before! It's just sad that their lease is up and they will be starting pop-ups again, but it would be fantastic if they will find a more permanent place because seriously their food is just AWESOME!

My SO and I visited Milkfish last Saturday night for dinner. We sat at the bar because we like to engage the staff and get to know the place on a more personal level. We ordered starters of ceviche and lumpier, which are basically egg rolls. Both were delicious and I would definitely order them again. We then shared a milkfish preparation in a coconut curry sauce, and served with garlic fried rice and saute' of purple cabbage. We both enjoyed the preparation but did not care so much for the fish itself as it had a large bloodline still present with gave the fish an off taste. Other than that one little thing we had a grand time. Haley, the chef's daughter and Randy were gracious and enjoyable to talk to. I'd definitely go back...I probably would not order a milkfish dish though....

My kare kare was kinda salty, they should have put the shrimp paste on the side, and the Bicol express would be better if its kinda like the real one with the peppers on if and the litson kawali should be cut a little more smaller so it's gonna be crispy

First off for someone who is open to a new food experience and willing to go beyond their expectations of Asian food, Milk Fish is a good place to go. That being said the service was the best I have experienced there and the food has improved. One of their signature dishes was not available, which was the main reasons we went there. Also my guest was surprised that the taste of the pork adobo and the pinacbit were indistinguishable as well as the consistency of the sauce. The only distinguishing feature was the taking - long green beans in the pinacbit. As one of the previous reviews had stated, the food was way over priced for what we got. They food is interesting if you are looking for an adventure and cost is not a concern.

My husband and I had a Filipino friend visiting from Colorado. When we told her about MilkFish, it became a 'must do' while she was in town. She was beside herself with all of the traditional meals available to her (adobo, pancit, etc), but also appreciated dishes like the Crab Fat Fried Rice. It was our first Filipino food experience and we loved it. Our waiter was awesome and made us feel at home. He managed to work the entire front of house, including the bar, without missing a beat. The atmosphere was super cozy and we felt very welcomed. We'll definitely be back!

We went there for lunch. When is Filipino food not Filipino food? When it is presented and tastes like this. Pretty incredible. Had Bistek and pancit. Lumpia shanghai and lechon. Had all the flavor of home to remind and remember but the food is made with better ingredients and is spiced and flavor with no much need for anything else. It was worth the trolley ride there and the walk back to the Quarter. Would do it again.

The food and service at MIIkfish is wonderful. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the whole menu and made some great recommendations. They just instituted an auxiliary Tapas menu which includes most of the items on the main menu. This is a great way to try a lot of the dishes without filling up on any one. Their kinilaw is outstanding...highly recommended. The crab fat fried rice is excellent. I'm looking forward to going back and trying more items on the menu.

Milkfish is a Filipino restaurant near the intersection of Carrolton and Canal. It was quiet on the night we went, two other tables occupied. The waiter was quite helpful with the menu and, in fact dissuaded us from ordering too much. We had the ceviche which was made with coconut milk and had some tiny peppers for a little kick. It was the best we've ever had. We did order the crab fat fried rice which was very good. Our other main dish, since we are adventurous, was the Sisig, a combination of chicken livers and the equivalent of chicharrones. Very tasty. Although the dessert menu looked good, we were very full by that time and passed. I would definitely go back. If your time in New Orleans is limited, get some creole or cajun food or go to one of the many excellent uptown restaurants; but when you get tired of them and want a new and interesting treat Milkfish is an excellent choice.

I never write reviews: mostly because I'm selfish and when I find a good spot, I want to keep it to myself. But I find myself wanting to be a cheerleader for this great little place. The lumpia and Sanagong (not 100% on that spelling) was wonderful, and the staff was very sweet. They have a full bar, which I don't think they had previously. I used to visit Milkfish when it was in the Who Dat Café, and I'm so glad to see that it's found a permanent home. This is such a great place for lunch, with plenty of parking in the surrounding neighborhood and in front. There was only a handful of people in when I was there, so be sure to try something new and make this great local spot your next stop for lunch or dinner. They'll be happy to see you and you won't be sorry.

We didn't know what to expect from authentic Filipino home cooking so were pleasantly surprised by the totally new (to us) delight of Milkfish. We could not bring ourselves to order the Pacific fish though it was clearly described by the knowledgeable wait staff. We shared the appetizer tray of Filipino egg rolls, bland chicken skewers, vinegary slaw, fatty and chewy pig face and fried pig tails. The oxtail stew which I love but seldom see on a menu was cooked in a peanut butter sauce and it was delicious with steamed rice. The chicken adobo was plain stewed chicken and it was good if bland. There were plenty of hot peppers in vinegar to add if you wanted more heat as well as an assortment of hot sauces. There's a bar now. The bare concrete floor and dim lighting did nothing for ambiance and the location is a kind of Bermuda Triangle of failed restaurants and bars. On-street parking at a busy corner makes parking difficult. So just go for the food and the friendly waiters. Don't be put off by dishes such as blood pudding. Try the flan for dessert. It has more texture than the Mexican stuff we know.

We had kinilaw, mixed adobo (chicken + pork), pancit, and halo halo. It was my second visit to Milkfish and probably my last. We received our entrees TWO HOURS after we ordered them. The waiter was apologetic throughout our visit and kept assuring us that food would "come out soon" but I would rather know that my food was going to take 2 hours so that I could go someplace else. After waiting so long, you would think that the food would be somewhat worth it. There were only 2 pieces of calamari in the pancit and there were only 2 shrimp. There were maybe 4 small bites of pork belly. After waiting 2 hours and paying over $20 for this one dish alone, I was sorely disappointed. The flavor of the adobo was good, but wasn't worth waiting 2 hours. The portion sizes are now much smaller than they were during my first visit. I won't be back.

Milkfish is normally closed on Wednesday nights, but they were open with a special menu for New Year's Eve. I had heard good things about Milkfish, but I was worried about actually going because all of the reservation time slots were open. I am definitely glad that we went, and we will certainly be returning to see the full menu.

This place does not disappoint if you're looking for Filipino favorites. Though the talented chef may tweak some of her recipes, the dishes respect the original, are flavorful and look fantastically appealing with her inviting plating. Particularly unctuous was her milkfish braised in coconut milk. Melt in your mouth goodness! Share many plates here as everything we had was outstanding, and my family of 4, which includes two picky half-Filipino children and one Caucasian husband, ordered more than half of the offerings. And Hailey is an awesome and knowledgeable server!

Peanut butter oxtail was extremely tender and great taste. The pork ribs (signature dish of the Philipines) was also very good. The staff is very informed about menu, and super friendly. I had never had Filipino cuisine before but was keen to try it. Everything we had was delicious. The flavors were familiar just paired in different ways. Their specialty cocktails are also delicious. I had the Pinakbet which reminded me of a Thai gumbo with out the heat. Never fear sriracha was one of the condiments on the table so a few squirts of that and it was perfect. The two waiters were very friendly, professional, knowledgeable and passionate about the cuisine. I'm looking forward to returning and trying other dishes.

We were excited to find out there was a Filipino restaurant in New Orleans. Our son just moved there for college, and so we took him out to lunch during family weekend. It was delicious, and the service was friendly and efficient. The decor was warm and bright, and we enjoyed the art on the walls. They accommodated our daughter's gluten and dairy sensitivity thoughtfully. Will definitely be back when we are in town again.

Thanks open table for opening up my EYES. I would not have tried, nor ever heard of Milkfish. This fantastic cuisine has an Oriental touch with a tropical Latin influence that seems like Southern Comfort-food. Eight of us ate family-style, until we had eaten almost everything off the menu. The appetizers were a meal in themselves and the entrees were led by the blood pork stew (hard to imagine it would be that good if they had told me what it was before I ate it). The desserts would have made me return by themselves. I almost forgot the cocktails, they were all so inventive and different from anything you might get anywhere.
