Servers were nice, but from being short on menus to having different people coming to the table for the same things, it was a little awkward. Took quite a while (10mins) to bring two mexican cokes, enough that the ice had melted a lot in the glass, and the person who brought it poured it right into the melted water. The food was not what I had hoped. Tuna tostadas were mushy and completely overpowered by chili oil—I can definitely stand the heat, and love hot hot spicy food, but it overpowered the flavor of everything else and all that was left was mushy tuna, seeds and crushed nuts. Even the tortilla on the tostada was crispy but so thin as to not hold up to the job, softening fast. We loved the fresh tortillas and refritos, and my date liked the short rib tacos. I also had a mushroom/veggie taco. I love mushrooms and poblanos, but again this was saucy and mushy and just tasted like a mushroom-ey mush. It was my birthday, but there was only one dessert available and even at 9:30 the espresso machine was already closed, so we didn’t stay after the mains. I’m someone who will usually get a full dessert course with digestives or dessert wine, dessert, and coffee, so I was disappointed all around. Having loved the DC Oyamel from when I lived there long ago, I was hoping for a bit more effort, even at 9:30 on a Sunday (it’s still NYC) and higher execution on the food. Servers were nice if a little disorganized, and the space was good looking, walls were open and not a hot or cold night, but the enormous fan above made everything so windy, it was distracting and actually kinda loud. Hoping they can work out the kinks! Would love to see NYC Oyamel shine.

food and service we’re good, but if you plan on a quiet a/c atmosphere, this isn’t the case. roll up style garage doors with loud fans. considering the elements would have like to seen a/c section in the restaurant.

lovely mexican food. didn’t expect the 1:00 pm drag show, but it never eeally materiaalized while we were there. service top notch, the cocktails were sublime, and the tacos begged to be ordered again. the chips and salsa were probably the best i’ve ever had in nyc; only thumbs down was the avocado salad which was surprisingly small. can’t wait to return with a larger group to sample more of the excellent menu

The food and service were incredible! The space is beautiful! There was a fun pride event going on which was an added bonus but it did make it extremely hard to hear!

Disappointing Service Overshadowed an Otherwise Great Meal at Oyamel NYC I recently visited Oyamel on a Wednesday evening around 5:15 PM. I arrived as a walk-in and was told there would be a 30-minute wait and that they weren’t accepting walk-ins at the time. Oddly enough, I was able to make a reservation for just 10 minutes later through OpenTable. When I returned, the hostess was noticeably rude and dismissive—even though it was clear the system had allowed the reservation. Unfortunately, the service didn’t improve once we were seated. Our waitress was cold and unwelcoming from the start. When we were given happy hour menus by the manager, she questioned why we had them, creating an uncomfortable and awkward moment. Later, she got our taco order wrong and instead of owning the mistake, she blamed us and still charged us for the incorrect item. It’s a real shame because the food and drinks were absolutely fantastic - creative, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Oyamel has a lot of potential, but the poor service really took away from the overall experience. Great food can only carry a restaurant so far. Hopefully they address the front-of-house issues, because right now, the service doesn't match the quality of the kitchen.

Good food. Waiter made suggestions that were perfect. Good margaritas. We also left our phone in there and they held it for us for a day until we could track it down. Was an incredible help. Love this place.

I was incredibly disappointed. The food ranged from mediocre at best to bad and the drinks were not much better. It’s disappointing for this area and space.

Andreis our server was outstanding. The food was actually good. The restaurant is cavernous with many large tables. Very “corporate.” The music was incredibly loud and the large screen TV (with Golf) makes it more of a sports bar vibe.
