   I rarely leave restaurant reviews, but we had such a negative experience at Ikigai that I am forced to leave this review. While the place is nice and modern, the service and the food left much to be wished for. Being a high-end Japanese restaurant, I was not expecting large portions, but the plates at Ikigai were truly tiny. In addition, we waited over 1h and 15min for two rolls of sushi, while the table next to us, who arrived 30min after, received theirs much sooner than we did. While waiting, we asked for the check as we didn't want to wait any longer. At that point, the manager came to apologize and say that the food was coming and that everything would be on the house and they would send us complimentary dishes (ended up being two pieces of Nigiri). We ordered the check, and we were charged for everything (i.e., nothing was "on the house"). All in all, very negative and disappointing experience, unfortunately.

As a new establishment, we are working through some growing pains, but we take full responsibility for the delays, miscommunications, and billing issue.    Amazing neighborhood spot. My favorite bites are miso soup, donburi bowl, tempura, nigiri

   Not only was the service below expectations, but my order was also incorrect, which led me to speak with the manager that same night. To make matters worse, I was charged for an item I did not order or receive, and I have yet to be refunded for it. Server did not speak English. I would not recommend this restaurant

   Excellent sushi, freshest fish and creative recipes. The service was also great and the noise level is perfect to have a conversation.

    11/10 experience. We rarely venture from our usual sushi spots in Miami but I’m happy we took a chance with Ikigai. We were lucky enough to meet the owner who was able to make some great recommendations for our meal and accommodate our dietary restrictions. Some of our favorites were the tiradito, flight of tuna nigiri (they had a bluefin tuna cutting that night), and the wagyu with foie gras. Looking forward to another visit soon!
