Italian
Shortly after the original Sant Ambroeus opened its doors in Milan in 1936, a devoted following emerged. This celebrated pasticceria and confetteria became the meeting place for the local intelligentsia, whether beginning their day with Sant Ambroeus’s legendary cappuccino and cornetto, savoring panini at lunch, or spending their evening enjoying refined cuisine in the restaurant’s elegant dining room.
We translated these old-world sensibilities of Sant Ambroeus to modern times, and imported our rich culinary traditions to New York. Each of our restaurants remains authentic to our Milanese origins, and we continue to serve our culturally inspired delectables in a casual yet elegant environment.

I was sent there by my sister in law who had to have their walnut gooey chocolate cookies overnighted from NYC to LA!! Don’t ask, but they helped me do it and in the mean time had an amazing lunch. Just like being in Rome. Pasta with clam sauce was perfect. Veal divine and the setvice was absolutely upper east side perfect!! I can’t wait to return.

This is one of our very favorite restaurants in NY, & we come here many times whenever we’re here. They have excellent Minestrone,
homemade breads, great Dover sole, wonderful butter cookies, & the best cappuccinos ever. We love the vibe here!

This is consistently one of the best places to eat. The food is impeccable and nothing comes out to the table that isn't the perfect temperature. Desserts could be better though. Wish there was something on there that was as good as the rest of the menu.

The restaurant is very trendy and popular. Too bad I caught a terrible chill as I was under the air vents and had to be asked to move. My guest arrived and had a lot of bags and we put them on an adjacent empty chair next to me. The maître D asked us to move them and not to “advertise” bags !!!
Huh?!?! There were no people next to us! The ambience is nice and the food good. The attitude is a little imperious unfortunately!

Very East side vibe - only was too noisy. Pasta dishes and ice cream were good. Had the Brussel sprouts to start and they were so hard, a knife could not cut through them. Dishes are way over priced.

If you want to eat italian food, it is good. I do not like the attigude at Cipriani, so this is a good substitude. I recommend tagliatelle bolognese.

It’s a good back up - the service and food didn’t match the more formal setting. The food was good. Not great (for NYC). Service was acceptable. Not outstanding. We had a mimosa and first attempt the champagne was flat. They corrected. Croissants are made with brioche and, in my opinion, too sweet. Portion size was good. Lettuce didn’t appear fresh. Toast was already cold on arrival and butter served cold. And while all tasted fine it just wasn’t stellar. I had hoped for more.

Time was between lunch and dinner. My friend wanted just coffee, but reading the employees' body language, I decided to order food. I enjoyed asparagus dish and cheese cake, but mozzarella cheese and prosciutto dish was disappointing. Next time I will order food that is cooked in their kitchen.

The waitress asked me if I wanted a drink so I asked if they could do a Boulevardier. It’s ok not knowing what cocktail that is, but after she went to ask the bartender if that was possible and came back and said they couldn’t do it without explaining why and suggesting to get a spritz instead. It was a good spritz (a little too sweet for my taste), but the bar definitely had whiskey and Campari, plus I already had that cocktail before at their location in Soho. I found the behavior sloppy and the waitress attitude and answer very condiscentent.
They could definitely work on their savior fair and friendliness.
On a bright note, risotto ai frutti di mare and pasta alle vongole were quite good.

A very nice place for REAL Italian food, although I had very high expectations over the FOCACCINE and was a little bit disappointed by the fact that they are actually made with a savory pastry dough. My quest for focaccia in the us is not over, yet. The place is extremely delightful though, I will definitely go back!

I have been to this location twice. The first time was on a Sunday for brunch. We did not have a reservation, but did not have to wait long and were seated in the tiny area in the front of the restaurant. The brunch menu was great and the service was excellent. This time, it was for lunch on a Thursday and we did have a reservation. We were seated in the back this time. Surprisingly, it was quite busy for a Thursday at lunch time. The back room was very loud and it was hard to have a conversation. The food was excellent, but the service was a little lacking this time. I will say, however, that this location is far better than the location in Soho, which I have been to once before. Overall, a great experience with good food and fantastic desserts.

My step-mother and I came in for lunch. There's a very pleasant ambiance here, and (at least at lunchtime) the noise level is acceptable. The menu is beautifully created: the choices are very interesting and it's pretty hard to make a decision. Service is polite yet professional, and the manager and waitstaff are well-informed about the details of each dish. My step-mother ordered Vitello Tonnato, a dish that's difficult to find outside of Italy (at least done the right way), and it arrived beautifully presented and was simply delicious. My taste of it reminded me of the one time I had it in Lucca. I ordered an interesting salad of shaved artichokes, Parmesan, and several more ingredients I like. This is where my "beef" comes in: our waitperson asked if I would like a little chicken or salmon in it, and I thought that sounded good, so I agreed to some chicken. What he didn't tell me was that it would cost me an additional $15 for 6 or 8 thinly sliced pieces of grilled chicken. I will also say that while the food is delicious, it is quite pricey. I had an Aperol Spritz, my salad (with the ritzy chicken) and a cup of coffee. With tax and tip: $88. That's A LOT for lunch.
