   This place is nice but ridiculously overpriced even for SF. $15 for chocolate chip cookie?? Sometimes the atmosphere or service elevate and make the price justified but not here. Definitely do not recommend. Many many places equally good for much less.

   the space is very open; we sat in the front room, there is also a back and a patio area. too cold to sit outside the night we ate here. service was prompt and friendly. Everything we tasted was very good. I don't think I've ever had such small portions of cheese and charcuterie. Each time was good, but nothing stood out as extraordinary. The value was not there for me.

   Over a year ago I went to an after-work tete-a-tete at this beautiful and appealing place maybe 2 years ago and thought it was great. Then we recently tried it for dinner. The menu is very limited in offers, although tasty, items are grossly overpriced, and it was not worth it. I am sorry to say this because I was so looking forward to it. If the value isn't there I will not go back. It is perfect for a few small plates and drinks but you will pay a lot. There was an event in the back so seating was limited to a few large tables -- not so easy for a 4-person conversation. Maybe better for larger groups of 7 or 8.

    We ordered the choice of 4 items from the charcuterie board. Of the two salami's we chose, they were incredibly thinly sliced and there weren't enough slices for the five of us to try one of each kind. We were also steered away from one of the pate's as we were told some was provided as part of the accoutrements, but it was not. The accoutrements were excellent, but again, the portion size of each was more in line with serving 1.5 persons, not 5. Everything was great, but seemed skimpy for the price even by SF standards. For main courses, I ordered the burger and it came well done instead of medium rare. Our server didn't come by to ask if we were enjoying our food until she picked up our plates. We were each given a free cookie and tiny shot of cognac due to the overdone burger, which was nice, but I would have rather had enjoyed a properly cooked burger which shouldn't be an issue at a restaurant like Trou Normand. My dining companions had either the salmon or porchetta, which they all said were both excellent. That being said, for me there are far too many other excellent restaurants in SF to bother going back to Trou Normand again.

    So noisy on a Thursday eve that conversation was impossible. People were yelling at one another to overcome the music, which management should have turned down. The waitress on three occasions asked us to repeat ourselves because SHE couldn't hear. SF has enough buzz already...

    Very pleasant environment and excellent service. The charcuterie was good and the drinks were excellent. We didn't try anything else on the menu so I can't really say how good their food is beyond the charcuterie. It was a lovely place to go after MOMA and enjoy an early evening with friends.

    Great service! Delicious food but be prepared for a lot of meat prepared perfectly! Chicken liver mouse with a light strawberry top was beyond superb as was squid-ink sausage! The ambiance was rather hipster but very welcoming and warm. Cocktails were also superb. Would go again! Fun experience!

    This rating and review is specifically for the quality of the food. The service here is outstanding and we were well attended to. It's such a shame that the food doesn't reflect the service. I wanted to like this place so much. It was recommended by 7x7 for their charcuterie plate, which, when we arrived looked very sparse, for the cost on the menu. My girlfriend and I decided to opt for dinner instead because some of the items listed sounded inviting and I am a big mushroom fan. We started the night with cocktails which we both enjoyed although I felt my scotch cocktail completely masked the flavor of the scotch. We both shared a plate of Potatoes with Aioli and the mixed pickles. The potatoes were very well cooked, the Aioli was over salted. The mixed pickles were inconsistent in flavor and the cucumbers were barely brined. Next, my girlfriend had the burger, which she received almost well done when she ordered it medium... It was also very poorly plated and just seemed like an afterthought. It was a very mediocre burger. I had the lamb belly with the black trumpets. The lamb belly was overcooked and the entire plate was once again over salted. For almost $200 I would have expected a better experience, but perhaps we came on a wrong day at the wrong time. I suspect one does not come to Trou Normand for food, but rather to have a couple of cocktails and a small bite to eat. If you were an overpaid tech engineer, I can imagine that it's not much of a problem to drop $50 on a sparse charcuterie plate... It just doesn't seem like the value is there for what we received. I could have gone to a tasting menu at a Michelin star restaurant for the money I paid. Very disappointed and unlikely I will return.

    Terribly overpriced. $49 charcuterie plate included a few slices of salami, a tiny wedge of cheese and a small piece of pate. The $26 dollar eggs were tiny too. My husband ordered a beer and got 1/2 glass. Ridiculous!!

    My wife and I went to Trou Normand for dinner and were personally attended to by Mr. Ben Krupp. He is one of the owners of this restaurant and was managing the place that evening. He was very personable and helpful. While the pricing of dishes was in line with high-end restaurants in San Francisco, the portions were very small. The two rooms of Trou Normand offer vastly different ambiances. The room in which the bar is located is warm and cozy, with big sofas. The room behind it is an enclosed patio which is much quieter. It has long tables with light chairs, almost like a classroom. In short, I would recommend Trou Normand for drinks but not for food.

    Quaint joint with hip, artsy vibes amongst the more uppity SF FIDI restaurant scene. The service was delightful and treated our party quite respectfully, playing along with my friend's jokes throughout the night. Highly recommend the Heirloom carrots as a starter and coming with great company to enjoy this lovely spot!

    Trou Normand is lovely! Its my go to spot for catching up with friends or grabbing a glass of wine after work. They have a delicious burger, wonderful cheese/charcuterie boards and amazing wine list (at a broad range of price points). The host is awesome and the entire staff is really helpful with recommendations.

    We had eaten at the restaurant in 2014 and 2015. Then the fish course was excellent along with a delicious salad and salaumi. But this time we went on a Saturday night and unbeknown to us the nice tables in the back room were closed. Wish this was on the website or open table because the only options with 4 tables was the community table or bar, which is not comfortable for my wife. Apparently the business/tech crowds on M-F and not on the Saturday night. The black cod was ok but two small pieces of fish served on a bed of vegetables...in what resembles a soup bowl.... that had a blue country style pattern. When the owner came to say hello which is very nice of him, we explained the dish would be more elegantly presented on a white dinner plate since it shows off the ingredients. The mortadella was very refined and I wish they had a take out deli for the chacuterie.

    Great choice for a date night. The menu changes daily which makes it fresh and the restaurant was busy but not over crowded. Loved the paté as an appetizer and definitely recommend desserts!
