Very nice space, pleasant atmosphere, quiet - you can actually hear each other talk! We were greeted warmly and seated right away (we had a reservation, but it wasn’t very crowded). Took a while to get menus and place our order, we went with our servers recommendation: two appetizers and two entrees for there people. It took a LONG time for our appetizers to arrive, one at a time, not together. And seems they spaced out on our drinks, we had to remind them. The mango, avocado salad was pretty good, we also enjoyed the salt and pepper squid. Portions were a little on the small side. After another LONG wait, our entrees came: Goong Prik Kula, a sea food dish and Nam Tok, Thai grilled steak. Both were tasty, but not amazing and the portions were disappointingly small (smaller than the photos on the website), especially the steak. The seafood dish consisted of two very large Tiger shrimp, which were hard to eat with the shells on, we hard to ask for knives, also a few pieces of sautéed squid and one (1) scallop. It wasn’t bad, but a little underwhelming. We later realized they did not serve with the dipping sauce mentioned on the menu. Oh well. In the end we were unceremoniously brought the check, weren’t asked if we wanted dessert (there’s one item on the menu). Overall, we did not get the impression of a well-run restaurant. Maybe it was an off night, perhaps they were down one waiter or someone missing in the kitchen? It’s said the devil is in the details - and they did not get them right on this night. In such a competitive environment, I fear they won’t be around long unless they can do better, which would be a shame because the food was good and it’s a nice space.

Great thai and chinese food, curated to your taste in terms of spices. Fresh, seasonal and refined food, not greasy at all. Nice asian fusion atmosphere and very efficient and kind service. A real neighborhood gem !

This restaurant is relatively new and still trying to refine its menu. We've eaten here twice and thoroughly enjoyed the food both times. This time we shared a Peking Duck, which was superbly cooked and presented (the half duck is suitable for 2 or 3 people to share). Evidently, we were there between seasons, so they were in the midst of a transition to a summer menu. As a result, the interim menu was printed on computer paper and no desserts were offered. This will all evidently change as the full summer menu is put in place before the end of June. We have found Aves to be an excellent addition to the dining options on the Upper West Side, and it's worthy of taking over the space formerly occupied by the much beloved La Mirabelle.

A truly subpar meal for the cost of a very nice dinner in New York City. Has the vibe of fast casual dining but the prices of a more elevated restaurant. Disappointing meal for sure. Maybe a spot to get a cocktail at the bar (the cocktail menu was fun) but I’d skip the food.

Aves has become our go-to place on the UWS. Beautiful, with good food and attentive service. I needed to have a quiet conversation recently so we went very early--the restaurant was almost empty--and asked for a table upstairs. Upstairs wasn't open but on appeal we were allowed to go up. Much appreciated. The food was excellent. We had the soup dumplings (messy but delicious) and the spicy chicken with all sorts of nuts. And also an excellent Sancerre. Perfect!

Aves is a beautiful, sleekly elegant Asian fusion restaurant we visited for the first time. The cocktails were delicious and interesting, thanks to bartender Rodrigo, who is talented and friendly. We were seated at a very comfy table, and studied the interesting menu. We each chose an appetizer and a main dish. Each item was served beautifully and tasted delicious! The only problem was that some of the items on the menu were new, so the kitchen was a bit behind, creating delays in the delivery of our food. The servers explained the kitchen back-up and asked for our patience, which we of course gave. To cheer us up, we each got an extra cocktail and a special dessert that wasn't even on the menu! I'm looking forward to another meal there in the near future--giving the restaurant cooking staff a chance to catch up to its delectible menu.

Aves, with its gorgeous interior and elegant Chinese food, is a welcome addition to the UWS. We don't have any other restaurant quite like it. We were there for a quiet Sunday of Memorial Day weekend--the patrons were few (the entire UWS was empty), the ambience was lovely, and the service was attentive. We'll go back often.

Our previous experience at Aves was 5-star. Now something is seriously awry. The food and presentation are still outstanding. But: Even the front-of-house was confused by the multiple menus (original, dumplings, Thai — two too many). The waiters were untrained. The music was too loud. A wine on the menu was unavailable and the waiter didn’t know to offer a taste of the substitute before pouring. We had to ask for serving spoons. The tea poured wasn’t brewed. No desserts were available. Too bad - there are some gifted chefs in the kitchen.
