The history of McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants began when Bill McCormick purchased Jake's Famous Crawfish Restaurant located in Portland, Oregon, and brought the more than 100-year-old landmark back to life. When asked the secret of how he revitalized a restaurant on the brink of closing, McCormick says, "I like nothing better than being a good host." Part of the managerial talent McCormick tapped was Doug Schmick, a management trainee. The two formed a partnership in 1974, creating Traditional Concepts, a precursor to today's McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurants. In 1979, they opened the original McCormick & Schmick's Seafood Restaurant in Portland, Oregon. The combination of an open imagination and a respect for tradition are what makes McCormick & Schmick's the classic and successful business that it is today.

It has been a while since I ate here. As in the past, the food was excellent; I had the miso black cod and a salad. A glass of wine hit the spot. My date had a steak which he said was delicious. The inside looks average, but clean. The bathroom was clean. Our server was pleasant, and our food was brought at the correct time lengths. I will be back.

Our food was fantastic! Started with an espresso martini (to die for) - had the warm pesto oysters and shrimp scampi. Delicious! Service was great and quick!

Food and service were excellent. Our meals, however, took 40 minutes to arrive. I'm guessing the holidays were a factor in this.

Food was brought to out table an hour after it was ordered. One dish was brought out with the wrong sides and the scallops were not cooked as requested. Our server never offered to refill our drinks. The food that was correct was very good.

My food and service were good. I wanted to order the cedar plank salmon but I was told there was none prepared and I had to order something else. It was a Friday night and I think the salmon should have been available.

My husband and I had a lovely early dinner at M&S on Saturday around 4:30 before a Penguins game. We were impressed with and appreciative of the outstanding service from all the staff members and how delicious our meals were. We split the walnut mixed green Salad to start. Excellent. Entrees were the BLACK PEPPER CRUSTED OPEN BLUE COBIA and the SUGAR & SPICE CEDAR ROASTED SALMON. Both were amazing! For dessert we split the UPSIDE DOWN CANDIED WALNUT APPLE PIE with Warm Caramel Sauce and served with Cinnamon Ice Cream. Incredible! All selections were cooked perfectly and different enough in their creativity to be one of our best meals lately in any restaurant. We left highly pleased and happy with the value and quality of our food and service. Highly recommend M&S downtown Pittsburgh.

We were a party of 4. Took a very long time to get our meals. Three different tables with parties of 5&6 people who were seated after us received there meals first. One of the tables even left before we even got our meals. Out of the 4 meals we received, 2 were cold. The others were fine.

Disappointed. We ate here for Thanksgiving 2 years ago and it was wonderful. It's why we returned. Our son lives in Pittsburgh. Today, we had a small, cramped, table in the corner. I asked for a small booth like we had last time. I saw small booths available Server very inattentive and service was slow. Sat waiting 15 or 20 minutes for beverages and bread. Wine came even later Appetizers arrived after 1st course. My meal was warm/almost cold. Server never asked if my son's steak was cooked as requested (it was). Wasn't asked if we wanted more bread Had to request 2nd glass of wine. Dessert took 15 minutes to arrive. Was rushed to complete payment. Other tables had servers coming to their tables frequently. Ours was often nowhere to be seen. Poor experience overall. Food was average. Not at all like prior experience. Not sure we would return Only left 15% tip. When we usually would tip 20 - 22% in a restaurant

Excellent waitress. Food took quite some time to reach our table but, when it did, was hot, tasty and a healthy portion. We were happy to take home Thanksgiving leftovers!

The drink and appetizer were great as was the NY strip. However the Turkey dinners were pretty awful. The sides were decent but the Turkey was disgusting. Really disappointed.

So nice to have a thanksgiving turkey dinner for a small number of people without spending all day in the kitchen. So grateful M&S was open and truly appreciate that the employees there gave up their time for small families like mine. (There were some large groups there, too.)

The venue was nice, the appetizers were good. The service was slow and the waitress was professional but clearly overwhelmed. The entrees were not good. My fish was not descaled properly and I ended up getting a mouthful of cod scales… my wife ordered chicken, which should have been simple and easy… but it was so overdone it was not edible, it was too hard to even chew through. We did not complain because we were already tired and had waited so long. For $150 for two people, this was a terrible experience. This was our first time in Pittsburgh, we won’t return to this restaurant, unfortunately.

Jesus was a phenomenal waiter and he was always making exceptional eye contact with myself and the rest of my party. He gave a very thorough and descriptive explanation of the the unique drinks and meals the restaurant provides. My party got 3 out of the 6 recommendations. He was also relatable and made us feel as if McCormick & Schmick’s was like home. He was one of the most professional waiters I have ever had in the city. Thank you Jesus!
