    Our second time at La Base, this time with the family. We knew what to expect from our first visit and even enjoyed the bath I got from a misguided wine pouring! Keep up the good work!

    Very good food, well prepared. Very careful with my kids and elder parents. Great ambience, but too noisy for nice conversation. Exceptional steak tartare, gougeres and chicken liver cornets. Reasonable prices, but the surcharge fee is not a good policy.

    Service was great, and the staff were friendly. Loved the food! We came hungry after a long day and left sated. If you like French cuisine, this is a wonderful place to try. Manager stopped by a couple of times at most tables to chat. She took a genuine interest in her customers. Our server also stopped by several times. We were well looked after. Recommend it highly! This is a small place so reservations are advised

    La Bise is first rate. We ate here for lunch on Wednesday. Excellent choices on the menu. Sea bass and steak fritte for entrees. Superbly cooked. Excellent service. This was our third visit. We enjoy this elegant and hospitable restaurant.

    Superb French bistro. Wonderful service, you really felt welcomed and appreciated; rare in restaurants these days. No misses; every part of the meal was superb. Sauces were uniformly subtle, complicated and light. I particularly liked the portions; nothing that made you want to immediately ask for a doggy bag or the nearest gym, or think the that you might have to order 2 main courses…

    La Bise is one of my favorite go to places. Nice staff, great waiters, good food. Prices a bit high given the meal came with only the protein and 2-3 small pieces of unidentifiable vegetables. The sauce was outstanding. I'll go back but will have to add a side of veggies to round up the >$75.00 meal.

    Server was very attentive, provided excellent service. Ambiance was lovely. Food was delicious, right sized portions. At our table of 5, 3 had the Duck, 1 had the Steak au Poivre and 1 had the Lamb, everyone enjoyed their meal. Desserts were also inventive.

    Absolutely enjoyed this place. Starting from the entrance, to service, three course meal to exiting. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a French cuisine experience. Although portions are small, it’s very filling.

    Presentation was unduly complicated. Food tasted fine but didn’t match what we expected from the descriptions. Too contrived. One of our meals, the duck, was inedible; it couldn’t be cut with a steak knife. Service was excellent. Waiter was attentive but not overbearing. Management recognized that the duck was inedible and gave us an adjustment on the price. One of the few restaurants in DC where the sound level permitted comfortable conversation.

    We enjoyed sitting on the patio for our first visit to La Bise during Restaurant Week. The tables are well spaced, and service was not rushed. The menu had a limited number of choices. Our appetizers, potato/cucumber soup and leeks with mushrooms, were delicious and artfully presented. I thought the latter was the best appetizer I have had in years! Both appetizers set a high bar for the rest of the meal. My partner thought the duck was very good, and the accompanying potatoes delicious, but would have preferred an additional vegetable for balance. I thought the sea bass was good, if not particularly memorable. It seemed to need more flavor, and the plate would have benefited from an added starch, like potato. I guess, however, the chef is aiming for a focused entree rather than a balanced plate. The dessert for us was chocolate mousse cake. It was good, but lacking the wow factor. Service was excellent!

    Overall, a lovely dinner. It did get rather loud in there. And, both of us who tasted the steak thought it had a funny taste/smell (sort of like soap). The cucumber soup was excellent. I have been to La Bise several times since it opened. My feeling is that it was much better in the early days and now is just pretty good.

    We have always enjoyed the food and ambiance at The Oval Room. Last year, we dined at La Bise and everything was fine. This year, in honor of my birthday, we returned to La Bise. The ambiance was lovely; the food less so. Our mutual appetizer of watermelon salad, priced at $18, was delicious but dreadfully small. Why was that? Two or three rectangulars of watermelon ought to have been on our plates, rather than one. My husband's Mediterranean sea bass was delicious but my bouillabaisse was not. Removing shells off the shellfish was a mistake in my opinion. Part of the fun of eating bouillabaisse is doing that for oneself. Additionally, the broth lacked flavor and the shellfish quantity seemed quite skimpy.

    The food was very good. Fish was prepared well and cooked perfectly - crusty skin and moist and flaky inside. Appetizer portions appeared slightly small. Service was excellent - just attentive enough and not intrusive. Made for a very enjoyable evening out - not rushed at all, even when conversing longer at the table after the meal.

    The menu provides a good choice of dishes. Food is very imaginative and beautifully presented. Fine quality and excellently cooked. Service is exceptional - friendly, professional and efficient but not intrusive. This leads to a relaxed atmosphere.

    Haute cuisine, major points for plate presentation. Exemplary service. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Warm welcome by maitre d who goes out of her way to make you feel like a long lost friend. One quibble: kitchen's preparation of duck dish was described as "medium" but was more medium-rare tending towards rare.

    truly superlative experience, from the greeting at the door to the exit and everything in between. GORGEOUS setting, attentive and friendly staff (maybe a bit too fussy with tableware settings), wonderful interactions and vibe, but -- of course most importantly - the food knocked my socks off. the menu isn't like, trying too hard (nor is it jaw-dropping expensive, especially after your task the food) but truly every single bite was notable. it's like the best version of each thing that you've ever had (including the unexpected espresso martini someone ordered? didn't know this was his thing and he said it was in his top 3, then changed to #1 because of the CHOCOLATE COVERED espresso bean in the glass) i was sopping up the beurre blanc that came with the leeks with everything i could find on the table, the duck took me through waves of distinct but perfectly balanced flavors, the "frites" (which looked like french toast sticks) were stolen from under me after i naively shared bites, even the bread and butter was exceptional. great champagne recommendation for our celebration (and at $70 was a perfect guiltless treat) what else -- the thing is, everything was so lovely and cohesive that breaking it apart doesn't do the whole experience justice. it was everything Michelin that you love without anything that makes it unapproachable. so grateful for a perfect evening and truly impressed with the precision.

    After a string of disappointing meals in DC, this was a refreshing surprise, from the gougers to our main course it was excellent. One small "nit" I would like to pick is that If a restaurant offers soufflés for dessert, it should be mentioned at the start of the meal since it takes 15 minutes to prepare and serve. But once the dinner is over who wants to wait at an empty table tapping one's finger?

    I dined at La Bise during Bastille Day. I was so excited to try the set menu. My server was attentive and kind, the restaurant was beautiful and nicely lit. Started with a complimentary glass of champagne always nice! Noise level was chatty but comfortable, and the food was delicious and rich. I would definitely reorder the french onion soup (10/10) and the pavlova. My entree was decent, very carrot forward, I should have gotten the steak after seeing the table next to mine. Only negative of the whole experience was the not super kind hostess or front of house manager. This was my first time at the restaurant, the valet system is horrible. Random men in a red polos sitting on a bench. I drove by twice, parked by the signage waited 10 minutes the first time no one came. I called the restaurant and was met with instant agitation, “do you need me to come out there and flag them down there for you. they are right there. I can see them.” Another 5 minutes goes by on the busy street in front of the restaurant and nothing. What kind of restaurant starts out a dining experience like that? I almost did not go in. I called (6) times to finally reach her again and a horrible tone of “yes you still haven’t parked. I see him walking over right now.” no hello nothing. I finally gave my keys to a staggering gentleman and went inside. Sorry to La Bise if I don’t immediately give my keys to a random man to valet my car as all parking garages are closed at 9. So overrall good experience, the hostess/ front of house manager ruined what initial excitement I had. Glad to have a gone.

    I was here to celebrate Bastille Day, good food even if I would have expected foie gras instead of gougère as an appetizer. The bread and butter could be more French than the usual American taste. Friendly service and a warm welcome. Overall a good experience.
