At Mallard, Chef Johnson will apply classic and global techniques to the culinary traditions of the south while incorporating the best local and regional ingredients available. Undergirding it all will be a sense of hospitality rooted in Johnson’s memories of the family table.

Mallard’s menu will range from Chef Johnson’s take on classics like Shrimp and Grits with Smoked Pork, Piquillo Peppers, and Tabasco-Shellfish Nage and Wild-Caught Blue Catfish with Poached Oysters, Summer Corn, and Smoked Trout Roe to new creations like Seared Sea Scallops with Cracklin’ Cornbread, Charred Peaches and Dandelion Greens and Crisp Berkshire Pork Trotters with Ramp Chow Chow, Sunny-Side-Up Egg, and Edisto Island Grits. Dessert options include Buttermilk Panna Cotta with Rhubarb and Almond Shortbread and Banana Puddin’ with Cracker Jacks and Nilla Wafers.

While the food was DELICIOUS (especially the perfectly crispy duck), the noise level in the restaurant made it very difficult to hold a conversation. We had to talk with raised voices to hear one another -- adding to the restaurant's already high noise level. Even our server had difficulty getting one of our orders correct because she couldn’t hear it clearly. The staff was, however, very gracious & apologetic about the order confusion, giving us an additional starter as an apology. We appreciated the manager's thoughtfulness. Because the dinner was an anniversary celebration, Mallard provided an ice cream dessert surprise & some champagne. That was a delicious, unexpected treat. Not sure if we'll return. If a weeknight dinner was so loud, we imagine weekends are REALLY noisy.

I went for a date. Great food, service, and ambiance. Not too quiet but not loud either. We received complimentary amuse-bouche, which was delicious. Our appetizer and mains were also very good with nice portions. The dessert was pleasant and unique. The price is comparable to other restaurants in the area, but I found the food and service at Mallard better than I’ve otherwise experienced. Overall, it was worth it and I would return.

Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Mallard. We tried/ shared a large variety of the menu- all were original, well presented and delicious. We loved the cold corn bisque offered at the beginning of our meal! In particular the foie gras appetizer and duck entre were excellent. The fried green tomatoes were fresh & beautiful. We tried all 3 desserts and loved them all.

We had a lovely pre-theater Father’s Day dinner at Mallard. The duck is the stand out dish, of course. But everything was delicious. The service was excellent. We will be back!

We came to Mallard for a dinner with friends from PA and VA to celebrate a wedding with friends. The food, service, drinks and ambiance were absolutely AMAZING! We can’t stop talking about our experience last night and can’t wait to be back! Definitely check out Mallard if you have the chance!!

The effort that was made by the manager and waitress to accommodate my garlic allergy is greatly appreciated. Wonderful appetizers and dessert!!!!

Amazing food and great service in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. Southern Fusion at its finest! Save room for the "Coffee and Cigarettes" dessert.

The food and service was incredible from start to finish! It's very cozy inside, and the acoustics and ambience are perfect. I would return for sure, and I recommend the Pennsylvania Peking Duck dish especially.

On point as always. Food is a knock-out. Seriously talented chef. New pork chop is fantastic... although I do hope the carpetbagger steak (steak with fried oysters on top) returns to the menu! Great service and the beer list menu upstairs is the best I've seen in the city (along with The Sovereign, which belongs to the same restaurant group). This place really has something going and I 100000% recommend it.

We had a wonderful experience at Mallard. Love the Southern touch to the dishes. Krystal was our server and she was so great! She recommended and guided us through drinks, apps and entrees. What a treat to find this restaurant while in DC. Definitely will come back on our next visit. My husband order the trout and I had the duck. Both delicious entrees. Do not miss the fried oysters.
