I was expecting more to be honest. The service is not great, people were a bit inexperienced and one of the waitress was unexpectedly rude to me and my family. My parents needed some more time to understand the menu -as English is not their first language- and the waitress kept asking us if we wanted to order. The place was half empty so I didn’t understand the rush. The second time I asked her to wait ( we ordered some drinks in the meantime and was hoping to buy some time with that) I heard her commenting that I should ‘chill out’ and proceeded to ignore us for the rest of the evening. I tried to tell her that we were ready a few minutes later and even made hand gestures in her direction but nothing. After a good 45 minutes of being ignored by the staff, my mother asked the guy who was attending the bar to take our orders. When the food arrived, nobody came to make sure the food was ok and we even had to ask the same guy for the bill as none of the waitresses came to our table for the whole evening. My parents and I were confused by this kind of behaviour and I would be lying if I said that it didn’t ruin our night a little.

Wonderful place, real hand cut pastrami and corned beef. Bread and bagels all incredible. Truly a great thing to have a Jewish deli back in the east end. Reminiscent of Mile End in Brooklyn.

You don’t have to be Jewish to live Monty’s. But I am, and I do! Real tasty and authentic Jewish food. Also polite and efficient service. The chicken soup and kneidlach is particularly good, and the chopped liver is deliciously smooth.

Good chopped liver ; very disappointing chicken soup. Small bowl and 2 strands of lokshen. Not very tasty or authentic. Poor bread with the sandwiches- would have liked a beigel or rye etc. Wine choices very limited - and coffee only served with freezing cold milk. The best thing about the evening was Inez the waitress- without her the evening would have been even more disappointing

If you've ever wondered what a New York deli would be like if it were in London, imagine no more, this is pretty much it. Like many British attempts at approximating American classics, it kind of gets it, but doesn't quite go all the way. Can't fault the quality of the food, it was good. And don't get me wrong, it's great that there's a spot to get a decent pastrami on rye. But it all felt a little muted and paired down--like trying to tame the over-the-top exuberance of a Katz' or a Carnegie to suit a British diner not known for reveling in excess. So while the food was fine, not sure Monty's quite nails the deli concept with its modest (to say the least) portion sizes (I didn't even have enough smoked salmon to cover two halves a barely schmeared bagel, for example) and limited menu. But if you're looking for a hip spot in the east end to sip a pickleback while nibbling on some exotic (for Britain) fare like chopped lived and latkes, this place is for you.

Overall the experience was good. The food had real care and attention to detail in its preparation. Service was fine enough, but could have been a little faster and perhaps warmer. No big deal. However something was missing and I didn't feel quite so at home in Monty's Deli that I would make a beeline back. It also wasn't such an experience through the atmosphere or service that I would recommend it to a friend when I know a few other Kosher style places across London that have a real reputation and tradition with better value for money.

I love this place. I’ve eaten there 4 times in the last month. I wish they had customer WiFi as their is no mobile phone reception at all. And I wish they did coffee refills! Highly recommended nonetheless 👍

Always a pleasure to eat Monty's. They never disappoint! I usually have a Reuben but tried the bagel board this time (along with all my regular orders:chicken soup and latkes) plus their new smoked chicken wings. The chicken wings were so delicious! Everything was!

SALT BEEF /CUCUMBERS /SALAD ALL EXCELLENT! THE LATKES WERE EXTREMELY HARD AS OVER CRISP ON OUTSIDE AS IF THEY HAD BEEN COOKED LONG BEFORE AND THEN MICROWAVED OR FLASH FRIED! THEY WERE DISAPPOINTING BEERS EXCELLENT

The food was beautiful. I'm vegetarian and the smoked Squash was gorgeous. We were in time for Happy Hour which was a lovely surprise and had some very nice cocktails. I'd reccommend Monty's to anyone, lovely atmosphere, really friendly staff and great service.

Top quality British-Jewish comfort food. The Challa French toast comes as an enormous doorstop of bread topped with lush applesauce and yoghurt. The salt-beef hash is really good too: big chunks of meat mixed served in a bowl with spicy potatoes, peppers and a egg on top. There isn't an extensive choice for vegetarians but the staff are happy enough to adapt dishes (e.g. taking the lox out of the lox and eggs). The staff are also friendly, flexible and knowledgeable. Overall, highly reccomended.

Monty’s Deli is quite good fun and the food there is reminiscent of a Jewish cuisine. It is comfortable, the service is good and so is the food. It is very reasonably priced. Buuuut, on our last visit the ‘music’ was so loud that we could not hear each other talk, and one member of the group was completely locked out of any conversation because of the noise. We complained separately to two members of staff, but they signed they couldn’t hear what we were saying. In between the tracks it was very pleasant, but then the noise started up again. Deafening. I’ve no idea why restaurants do this.

It was a good idea to book a table since the restaurant/cafe was very popular as it turns out. Salt beef sandwich and fries were outstanding - or simply heaven. Atmosphere was buzzy with a chic East London vibe. Very enjoyable experience and we will definitely return.

We felt the menu was overpriced. The food we ordered was ok but not exceptional as we had hoped for after viewing the webiste. The turkey schnitzel was overdone/deep fried, the reuben sandwich was on caraway seed bread, which overpowered the taste of the saltbeef et al - was there supposed to be a choice of bread ? The mains plates are too small to add sides to. We were happy there was a 2-4-1 offer on the wine. The decor is lovely and well done.

Staff were friendly and helpful but really they were brilliant. The food particularly the salted beef was out of this world my wife and I will return on our next visit to London. The decoration and furnishing was not fancy, (unless you're into the industrial décor, having said that the owners maybe in the process of revamping the place), but the food made the difference.

I read a review in the Financial Times weekend magazine and knew I had to visit asap !!! I'm from New York City and miss Jewish Deli food. I have to say that I loved the décor which is antique tiled walls and an true old world feel. My husband and I ordered a selection of starters and one large Reuben sandwich to share. We had the Latkes, Egg & Onion & Chopped Liver. A side of Fennel Salad. I loved the Chopped Liver which was by far the best I've had in years. The Egg & Onion (both served with thick slices of Challah Bread) were excellent and we truly loved the Latkes (Shredded potato pancakes) which were almost as good as my own. All in all a lovely find on Hoxton Street. We plan to visit again !!!!

Whilst the Rueben sandwiches were delicious, stay clear of the salads. We found a leaf worm crawling in our lettuce. Cut our appetite quite short as you can imagine.

You go to New York and dine in great places and when you come back you have that feeling of missing NY so much... well, no need for more. Monty's deli is the best place outside NY to make you feel like you are still there. A pilgrimage place for us and a weekly treat. The best Reuben this side of the Atlantic hands down alongside Pantry & Co in Highams Park.

Heard good things about montys so decided to go for lunch great vibe staff. Very friendly excellent portions salt beef was spot on. Also had the chicken soup which was lovely. Potato lakes a bit crunchy. Asked for crane ( horseradish) which was available and home made great on salt beef and lakes.as a Yiddiser mother mazeltoth boys u done great will be back for more. Plus takeaway service surperb x

Food is excellent. Their salt beef and rye bread are great and highly recommended. We also tried their Babke for dessert which was very good washed down with a coffee. Service was very good and friendly, but could be a bit crisper and more attentive. We had to ask for our bill twice.
