The drinks were amazing. Especially the smoked Char. Food excellent. Only reason why I’m not giving 5 stars is because the raw clams had broken shells. They tasted amazing and the manager was extremely receptive to the feedback. My son ordered the wagu steak special and it was the best steak he’s ever had. We will definitely be back. **only complaint was the temperature in the restaurant was a bit stuffy/warm.

This was our first time at a Char Steakhouse. Went for Father’s Day at the Scotch Plains, NJ location. Despite making reservation in advance, we were seated in the outside covered patio area instead of the main dining room. Seemed the staff was seating families with young children in this area. It was myself, my wife and our 20-year old son. We would have liked to have been in the main dining room. Our waitress offered us still or sparkling water with no option for tap water. Our son ordered the filet mignon and requested medium rare. We had to send it back as it was cooked well done. That is unacceptable at a steakhouse of this caliber. Other than that issue, the food quality was good. Good cocktails but average wine by the glass selection. Overall a disappointing experience and will most likely not return.

Char Steakhouse did not disappoint. The ambiance was elegant and classy. Diane our server gave us an afternoon to remember. From her food recommendations to plating service. She helped give us an excellent experience. Crab cakes, Lobster dumplings, lobster Mac & Cheese, creamed spinach and the Kansas steak all great!!! We will definitely return and recommend.

Visited for Fathers Day. Service was very good. Food was delicious. True steakhouse vibes our meal took a while but it was nice to spend time and not be rushed.

Having been a regular at char in Raritan we decided to join friends from Scotch Plains at the new venue. I was somewhat surprised by the difference in pricing between Raritan and Scotch Plains. All of a sudden oysters were up to 395 apiece. There were no special such as the $44 strip steak and I actually sent the oysters back because at that price sorry they're supposed to be good and one of them looked Like it had woken up from a stale sleep and was a quarter of the size of a normal oyster. I was also told they were Blue points when they were not and I told them to take it off the check which they did .the Maitre D came over and advised that indeed they were not blue points and this goes to training the staff. We always expect when a restaurant opens that there are bumps, but unfortunately, this was more than bumps. The outside is the nicest part of the venue because there is plenty of air and a louver ceiling. The inside needs flashlights to see what's going on and a seeing-eye dog to get to the men's room. Coincidentally we went to the other char in Raritan on Father's Day and lo and behold, the menu was not the menu on the website, but the same menu as the one in Scotch Plains with the same upped prices. the service was 100% better and we had a very professional server who was terrific. It is unfortunate that possibly they're raising their prices to make back their investment in Scotch Plains, but that will wear thin very fast and they will lose their carriage trade. I think if you compare it, it may be more expensive than roots, and it certainly does not deserve that pricing. Someone should wake up quickly before they ruin both restaurants.

The service at Char is excellent, from the bartenders, waiters, busboys and hostesses. The food is excellent, the bacon appetizer is one of the best I had at any Steakhouse. I took my kids and grandkids, it was their first time to Char in Scotch Plains and everyone loved it.

This is my new favorite place. I was a regular at the restaurant before ( stone house) and I am fairly regular at the Char further up on 22. However, this is my new favorite. Food is amazing. Atmosphere is off the charts and our waiter Fabio was absolutely amazing. I sat outside this time and it was just the best- I love it. If I could give 10 stars I would.

You will not be disappointed with the food or service but you'll certainly remember the tab - and that is not to say that the expense is not worth it. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves very much and have every intention of returning - before or after we win the lottery!

Great steakhouse atmosphere. Classy without being too old school formal. The service was excellent. Good selection of steaks as well as other options. The cocktails were generous and the wine list excellent. My steak was cooked to perfection.
