Smoke Door Lake Tahoe Saryo is a Japanese-inspired restaurant using primitive wildfire cooking methods highlighting seasonal ingredients from Japan and the Tahoe region.

Our Executive Chef, Tyler Burges, hails from notable restaurants such as Michael Mina, Angler, and the esteemed Saison and is driven by seasonality and innovation.
Nestled in the breathtaking surroundings of Lake Tahoe, it offers an unforgettable dining experience with views of the open kitchen and wood-burning hearth.

This is easily the best restaurant in the Tahoe area. I cannot recommend highly enough, except it might make it harder for me to get a reservation.

Excellent food, great service, and an interesting experience at the bar watching the preparation and talking with the staff about who/what/how, etc. We will go back in a heartbeat.

Everything about Smoke Door Saryo was amazing! From the delicious and beautifully served tasting menu to the friendly and incredibly professional team! One of the best dining experiences we have ever had.

Waiter Sebastian was trying hard. He had difficulty explaining the ingredients and preparation of each dish (which is what we pay for!)and we had trouble understanding his accent. We felt badly for him. We were at four top back end and servers were reaching across to place and take items because the other four top was jammed up to us with 4 largish people. Should have shifted them over so service could proceed more smoothly. Food was very good. With the trout and avocado toast and cauliflower topping our list. And the rice donburi style with fresh veggies was stellar. The chicken looked a bit naked on the plate , smoked pork belly not sufficiently rendered. I lived in Japan for 4 years and have had many omakase experiences here and there. Chef/owner was not in the house and it showed. Would try again.

This is the best restaurant in north Lake Tahoe. The creativity , presentation, complex flavors . The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly made for an amazing dinner. Zack is the general manager and is so helpful with everything. Greg was our bartender/server was terrific

Good and service was amazing. There wasn’t one misstep. The wagyu and caviar courses were amazing, but the sweet shrimp on sourdough was definitely the show stopper. Every course was thoughtfully prepared and presented. The beverage pairings actually enhanced the meal, which in my experience is not often the case. This was definitely one of the best dining experiences I’ve had and was the perfect way to celebrate a milestone anniversary. If you have the opportunity, don’t pass it up.
