Belgo - Nottingham
Efficient service and great food!
Best moules frites in Nottingham! The desert waffles are delicious too. The selection of Belgian beers is splendid and the staff are knowledgeable and make good recommendations.
We had a really nice family meal with a very attentive waiter. Would recommended the restaurant to all as catered for our differing tastes. For me the Thai Green mussels & prawn starter needed a bit more zing though.
The muscles on the special offer were a bit over cooked and small.
Good spot, love their beers.
My family and I visited Belgo's for lunch on Mother's Day. My daughter had moules marinere and was disappointed with the sauce, She thought it was lacking in garlic and also that the mussels had just been piled on top of the sauce rather than cooked in it. My grand-daughter found her burger a bit hard but otherwise my sea-bass was lovely and a very generous portion. The desserts were good and plenty of choice. Our waiter was very attentive but we did have quite a long wait for the main courses.
We liked the restaurant and will probably make another visit.
Gave this place one more go as really disappointed last time with the food and it managed to be even worse than last time. Tasteless, stale bread and plastic in food.
- Pretty poor experience, to be honest.
- Cocky waiter, unduly long wait for our food (which we chased three times).
The place is advertised as student friendly, but we had to jump through hoops to get the discount applied. Poorly staffed - three people tending to a busy dining area and the bar, on a busy Thursday evening, on the night of a big Arena concert, in the run-up to Christmas. Recipe for unhappy customers? Yep!
The chef had to shout down a flight of stairs and across the restaurant for somebody to collect and serve the meals. This wouldn't be so bad, but they had to continually scream for the meals to be collected (for reasons indicated earlier on) which left my table (and I'm sure others) wondering whose meals were festering on the side whilst waiting to be picked up.
We made our feelings known to the waiter at the end of our meal, to which he simply shrugged his shoulders. He probably couldn't care less - or that's the way he portrayed himself.
I will not be back, nor will my friends. Shame....an expensive one at that!!
Oh, and PS - the rotisserie chicken reads super tasy on the menu, but it's literally chicken and chips with a pot of sauce. You have been warned!
Lovely atmosphere, great food, great service, friendly staff, great night
Service was good
Mussels are not as fresh as before , and the sauce recipe was changed which I also prefer the old one
The menu has changed, not for the better, had mussels with olive bread, the bread had obviously been frozen and defrosted in a microwave because the small amount I was given was like rock, when I told the waiter he just looked at me, the bread, then walked off without a word, will not be going back, a shame really because we have had a couple of nice meals here, also the place was empty apart from us two so maybe that tells you something
Belgo in Covent Garden was one of my favourite restaurants for years so I was delighted to see one opening in Nottingham! Went there few times and always enjoyed it, but last week went for a meal with my husband and found a long hair tangled in the mussels. The waitress offered to bring me a new portion, which was great, but I watched my husband eat while I was waiting for my food, by the time it arrived, he was done and watched me eat mine..... we go out for a meal to eat together.... that's the whole point....I wasn't expecting not to pay for my food but at least taking a drink off the bill or offering a complimentary one for the inconvenience would be nice.....
From booking Belgano's online to leaving the restaurant was a good experience for myself and husband. It was quiet when we arrived so service was very good and the menu was explained to us by a welcoming male member of staff. As we had a Groupon Voucher, this limited us to a bucket of mussels or chicken, frites and a drink, which we did know from Groupon site. Belgos main menu does offer a good selection of food and drinks. The taste of the house wine was to our likening so ordered a bottle too. I ordered Thia flavoured mussels and husband plain, came in a largish bucket with frites. We both really enjoyed our meal and even shared a lovely waffle with cherries and ginger ice cream, delicious.
Overall an enjoyable experience and will certainly book again.
The waitress was extremely polite and helpful, I had the Thai mussels which were delicious , I was with a friend for lunch and it was a nice start to the weekend.
Visited on the 13th may. Had prawns for starter which were bland. The chips with main were hard.
Food good , I had the lemon sole which was excellent . Everyone that had the mussels said they were the best they had ever had . Starters were good too. Bottomless prosecco was fab . Only downside was we failed to notice the sur charge on the bill till after we had paid !
Really disappointing - not a patch on the Belgo’s we know and love in Covent Garden. Such a shame.
Booked at the very last minute as everywhere was busy on my birthday Saturday night. Service was therefore slow but the food was good.
The lobster wasn't warm so I didn't enjoy it much. The chairs were wooden and not comfortable for dining and the restaurant was cold. But the staff were great and service was very good.
Great Belgian experience. Dozens of (high alcohol) beers, great food from Mussels to Flemish Stew. Nice atmosphere and very friendly staff
Overall really good! It was very busy and had a great atmosphere. Service a little slow. Meatballs very dry.
I love coming to Belgos. Gorgeous selection of beer and the mussels are always delicious. We often add a half lobster which is great value. Perfect starting point for a night out, a date or fun with friends. Thank you Belgo staff for friendly, relaxed but attentive service. See you again soon.
Great atmosphere and the food was well prepared and delicious. AMAZING selection of beers defiantly recommend.
The service is second to none, and the food is superb.I would certainly tell my friends and family
food not outstanding but ok, service fast and efficient , lively atmosphere , not fine dining but ok considering it's a chain. They had run out of several things on the menu.
Came to this restaurant with 3 friends with high expectations as we have previously been to the London branches. Sadly, the Nottingham branch has a distinct lack of staff, slow and poor customer service. Foodwise, medium raw steak arrived as bleu by the bone. The braised ox cheek was done perfectly, but ruined by the mash potato which tasted sour. When questioned, waiter informed us sour cream was used but menu didn't state any. Luckily the mussels and lobster saved the meal. Needless to say we won't be coming back to this branch anytime soon.
