Giving this restaurant a just okay review. We had a reservation this past Saturday at 7:00pm and we arrived just around 7:15. We were greeted and seated quickly as there was only one other table of 2 dining in the restaurant. We were served water right away by someone who said she was not our waitress. We waited almost a full hour to be able to order drinks other than water. The sous chef was wonderful and came out to greet us immediately and also brought out two bowls of Brussels sprouts for the table for us to try (we had still not met our server at this point). After an hour or so we were able to order a few beers and wine. We then waited about 20 mins to receive those beverages and before they arrived the chef had brought us out some short ribs for the table (again not something we ordered. We believe they knew of the delay and we’re trying to combat any frustration) they were delicious as were the Brussels sprouts but we still hadn’t had a chance to order our actual food. We eventually at about 1.5 hours were able to order a few burgers and one fried chicken dish. The food took about 40 mins to get to us. Refills took even longer. All in all the staff was nice, even our server who was kind of scarce was very kind when she was around. The food that we didn’t order was wonderful and the food we did was good and the chef was very attentive and friendly he also provided us with bread pudding for desert. We finally left just before 10pm. It was a 3 hour dining experience. So all in all, I would recommend the food but please be prepared to sit for a long time and maybe without any actual drinks!

What started as a technical disconnect between the OpenTable app and the restaurant reservation "system" (notepad), turned into an unforgettable birthday+date night, where the sous chef Tommy and the general manager Dan arranged an awesome multi-course meal with wine pairing, and dessert and nightcap on the rooftop (only slightly marred by an untimely short downpour toward the very end). The cuisine builds on new American ingredients, but the flavors actually ranged across international borders -- Prince Edward Islands mussels cooked in just-the-right-amount of garlic butter soup base paired with copius slices of garlic butter toasted ciabata bread; grilled brussel sprouts flavored with Thai chili spice; lamb ribs roasted medium rare in rosemary and oil reduction, adorned with orchid petals; entree of NY strip steak grilled in lightly dressed garlic butter, topped with ample mushrooms that are seasoned just right, paired with copious garlic butter mashed potatoes garnished with parseley; triple desserts including creme brulee, a bread pudding from a 125yo recipe that was moist and just-right in sweetness, and a special espresso semifredo that was smooth and creamy and just the right amount of richness. Dan paired the food with wine expertly, starting us with a white riesling, 2 more whites, then a Williamette Valley Pinot Noir (with the lamb), and a Cabernet Savignon with the steak, then wrapping the night with a prosecco, and a on-the-house cocktail with a kick and a touch of espresso; unfortunately, I didn't remember all of the wine names. But suffice it to say that we enjoyed every glass paired! This was an awesome experience. We would go back again. Be sure to call the restaurant to reserve, and NOT rely on OpenTable to have the availability correct.

Restaurant lacks an identity. White table clothes downstairs but with a limited menus and no table clothes upstairs. Lights are turned-up as they would at the end of the night for clean-up - no ambience. We were presented with two menus "Bar Menu" and a "Limited Menu". Both were nearly identical and why would you title a menu Limited? The bar and service was sloppy - clearly a lack of staff training. Poor coordination between bartenders. Also, bartenders should store their purses somewhere other than in the sink area of the bar in clear view of guests. Also, beer taps were down. For this restaurant to survive, it needs a manager who has experience with great restaurants. Lots to fix.

We had a wonder night out. The drinks were good. The food delicious (get the Brussel sprouts). Service quick and attentive. Not as expensive as I would have guessed and quiet enough to hold a conversation. Great for a date night or special occasion. Highly recommend.

Food was honestly overpriced garbage. The steaks are unseasoned and extremely bland for almost $50. Could get a better steak from Applebees honestly. Fried chicken barely had any flavor to it. The French onion soup was bland as well. The chicken adobo bites were okay. Definitely don’t waste your money here.

Stayed at the Joinery next to Christian James and did not need to go anywhere to get a great meal! Had to work in town and thank you Pittsburgh for the great beers! This restaurant and it's bartender made my night, having a perfectly cooked NY strip and some great glasses of wine made this happen - can't wait to come back.

Outstanding experience in this beautiful restaurant! Service was on point and we arrived at 830 for a wine experience dinner. Each dish was timed perfectly with the pours of wine etc. and we learned so much about food & wine pairing. We did the night cap cocktail on the rooftop and what a cool spot! Thank you Christian James for making our anniversary a great memory.

Had a dinner reservation for 8:45, we were running later and called as they reservation confirmation said to. No on answered the phone it went to voice mail. Didn't get a call back until late the next day. When we arrived it was 8:59, they would not seat us in the main dinning room. They don't seat past 9 there, but yet they take a reservation at 8:45. Had no intention of eating in the noisy upstairs bar. The waiter, who was the only one working other than the kitchen, was rude and not accommodating. We left. The next morning we were basically forced to have breakfast there since it is in our hotel and we had food credits from the hotel. I don't know how you screw up breakfast but worst we have ever had. Sunnyside eggs, were raw, the whites were not even cooked. And who puts maple syrup on breakfast potatoes, and if you do then tell the customer that, what if they were diabetic. They also might like to teach the cooks (if you want to call them that) how to make toast, cold soggy bread is not toast, a 5 year old could make better toast. Again, one person for the entire place as a server. I would never recommend this to anyone, overpriced bad food, McDonalds would have been better, and we never eat at McDonalds. This place is not worthy of being in a Hilton, but then the Joinery had its own problems.

Christian James at The Joinery, Curio Hotel by HiltonResponded on September 13, 2023

CWright, We would appreciate your honesty if you are going to take the time to write a review. You did have a reservation at 845pm and you arrived at 9:10 and the server offered to seat you in the lounge as the dining room closed at 9pm. You responded by saying 'You are going to fu....g serve me in the dining room., I am not eating in the sports bar' If it were not for that response, we could of accomodated you in the dining room, he was just offering you the lounge first (we don't have a sports bar). Not sure if you were intoxicated in some way or fasion or just someone who is extremely rude, we were not going to serve you regardless after that behavior. Fix your manners prior to venturing out in public, people who work in the food industry are people too, not your servants.

Wine Experience was it! Great private room and perfect way to celebrate the wife's big 30! We did the pre-dinner cocktail on the rooftop which had great views of downtown and the river. The four course dinner was excellent and enjoyed every dish and loved the options to choose from. The wine pairings were perfectly paired and wines we have never tried prior. The server siad they are not typically found on the store shelves and special ordered. The post dinner port, also on the rooftop was a great way to finish off the evening! Thank you for a great experience and I will be telling others about it!

Beautiful place but not pretentious. Found out they have a rooftop patio as well so finished the night off with a great Syrah up there - keep it going!

We are also glad that that appetizers were to your liking. The rooftop is a great way to end the night and are happy you got to take advantage of that space. very mediocre brunch. We ordered the tomato ricotta toast with poached eggs and greens. It came out with hard boiled eggs, no greens and the thinnest amount of ricotta and burnt toast. French toast came out with no syrup on it. Only one waitress for the whole dining room (who was very nice) made service slow and food came out cold since it was sitting a while. Confusion with the check since they didn’t mention gratuity was included for a party for 3.

I had my eye on this restaurant for a while and was itching to try it. I went for brunch and was a bit disappointed. I almost walked out when I watched one of the chefs eat something behind the line then continue to cook people’s food. I had the shrimp and grits and my mom had the French toast. My dish was tasty. The relish on it was delicious, but the portions were very small. Three small shrimp, maybe a half cup of grits, and two poached eggs. My mom’s French toast would’ve been perfect if it weren’t burnt on one side. The berry compote was the right amount of sweet and the hand whipped cream was a nice topping. However, they both sat under the warmers for almost ten minutes before they were brought to our table. Another table that ordered after us with the same dishes was served before us. The waiter kindly took my mom’s beverage off the bill as an apology for the wait. If I ever stay at the hotel, maybe I’d give it another shot. I don’t think it is worth the drive, paid parking, or value to go again.

Menu was not your typical entrees. Very good food. Had the fried chicken and my wife had the pork ribs. The preparation is what made the two dinners unique. Side dishes were great.

We did not need a reservation, there was a "seat yourself" sign. Food was disappointing, service was slow, and looking back I am not sure how $25 in entrees and 2 coffees added up to a $42 bill.

1st time here and was top notch. Owner stpped by my table and great to see a locally owned resaturant downtown where they care about what they are putting out. I've been put off about downtown prior but this place is worth the trip -

Brunch on Saturday is lovely. Nice to find a place that does a Saturday brunch and the menu was just what we were looking for - tasty, well presented, and ala carte (not buffet). Botomless Mimosa's are fun!

Classic place with charm! International menu is a nice treat and it's downtown! Loved the outdoor patio as well. This place is a bit of a hidden gem. Do the valet parking, it's easy and not expensive.

Our small foodie group (6 of us) dined and truly enjoyed what they are doing here. Stickey ribs and the striploin were excellent along with the service. Craft cocktail and the wine list were on point and affordable! Loved the after drink on their rooftop, very cool ~
