What Insiders Are Saying
Set up in a Haggerston cafe, TATA Eatery’s high end Chinese small plates sound mad, but they’re actually really good. Hit it for dinner or brunch.
Great reinterpretation of traditional dishes and use of ingredients paired with a very cosy atmosphere.
second time i've been here. I'd come back just for the mushroom bowl of rice. It's just divine!! i love the concept of using a space from a day cafe, it feels economical and genius.
Wonderfully flavoured, original dishes with great wines. We went as a couple for my husband's 40th dinner; it was slightly pricey for the portion sizes but the service and food were excellent, with the noise from a very loud, boisterous party being the only downside, as it was difficult to have a conversation over the din!
My guest and I both really enjoyed the meal. The food was delicious if not plentiful and the service and ambience were delightful. An evening of real pleasure.
I would personally have preferred it if the music were quieter. I should say that I think that conversing as you eat is a very important part of the pleasure of a meal and it is not helped by having to compete with music, however nice.
Good as always!
A great find on Kingsland Road, very close to Haggerston station. The OpenTable reviews of the food were very positive...and with good reason - we loved everything we ordered! A small menu but packed full of flavour and exciting combinations. The desserts were to die for! Plus, the service was great. Will definitely be going back.
The food is next level delicious. Each dish was beautifully thought out and put together. Really enjoyable experience. I went with a friend and we both agreed it was one of the most interesting and tasty dining experiences we'd had in a while. Thoroughly recommend.
Amazing food, beautifully presented, a lovely calm meal with lots of surprises. Would recommend. Wine bottles a bit pricey but the fizzy wine in a tin was a nice fun alternative.
Love love this place. Interesting menu and reasonably priced. Loved the octopus starter and the rice bowls. Staff were extra nice, replacing our watermelon juice which was thrown on the floor by our demon baby.
Been vying to go to Tata for awhile and it did not disappoint!! The dishes were well presented and tasted phenomenal. Highlights were the prawn tartare, the mushroom rice bowl and both the ice cream desserts- rice cream and coffee cream. My only gripe is that the dishes are a little small and I wanted MORE but i guess this just means I have to go back again.
Great food. Nice homely ambience. Great for getting together with friends.
It's hard to tick a specific culinary box for Tata's cooking, but all the more that should be the reason for you to jump on the next overground train to Haggerston before they move on (as so many talented chefs do)! There are too many me-too food trends on social media nowadays, yet in this hidden corner in a small kitchen, two chefs are cooking up interesting dishes drawn from their personal history as well as their culinary training that are breaking new grounds. On our recent visit, there were smoky raw Galician beef carpaccio over a bowl of perfectly cooked rice topped with yuzu kosho (a Japanese chili paste) and raw egg yolk; prawn tartar with fermented veg and tobiko fish roe; white asparagas fried in a light batter nods to a Portugese influence, and grilled Iberico pork neck. The menu changes daily following seasonal offerings and daily catch, and the ingredients come from one of the best suppliers. For me, this is one of the most exciting chef duos to watch out for on the London food scene.
Some of the tastiest and most inventive food. Relaxed and friendly service and atmosphere.
Good and chilled out ambience. Was there for Sunday lunch with a friend, wasn't a lot of choices for lunch - 3 rice bowls and some snacks/light bites. Definitely much wider choices for dinner. Food is good and fresh!
Second visit - couldn't fault anything. Incredible food, lovely venue, great service, nice wine, good atmosphere.
I suspect it won't be long till it has a Michelin star to its name.
A good one, small and tasty plates to share beautifully presented.
For 2, take a couple of dish more than what you think will be enough.
mushroom rice bowl. Order it, you won't be disappointed!!
The dishes are creative with beautiful and unusual combinations. A fusion of east Asian with Iberian flavours. The plates are sharing size but never feel small once you've eaten them because of all the intense flavours, and we've never left hungry. We've been a few times now and we are consistently impressed. They always knock it out of the park.
Will be going back for sure. Everything on the menu was great
Best in town. Nice to see the menu evolving, but please don't change too much. Keep your best!
The food is very creative and flavourful. But the choice is quite limited and price is a bit higher than expected. Would love to come back for brunch or dinner!
Wow - incredible! I came here with friends for my 25th birthday dinner based on the reviews and they did not lie. Mind blowing. I keep thinking (and dreaming) about the food, and my friends keep bringing it up now a week later! Perhaps now my favourite restaurant in london??? Really. I don't know how everything could be so delicious.
Delicious food and warm hospitality. Beautiful food, beautiful decor, lovely casual service.
Amazing food, bit pricey, but worth that cost! Absolutely recommended for those looking for something new in the food scenery
Booked a table after reading very good reviews about the food- did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious- an explosion of flavours in every mouthful. Order all of the snacks- these were my favourite. Followed by the small plates- really good.
The atmosphere is relaxed and staff are friendly and attentive. We had a fantastic time.
The service was lovely, the chef was nice to chat to and the food was delicious.
I love this restaurant. I keep coming back with friends and every time I do, everybody raves about the food. The secreto iberico, the prawn tartare, the octopus temaki and the coffee ice cream are to die for. The service is lovely and discreet. The waiters will let you know if you are ordering too much food rather than push for more sales and are very honest in their dish recommendation (e.g., one told me he did not think the crab congee was a summer dish on a warm day this weekend. He was right!)
The ambiance is great - there are small tables suitable for couples and also larger tables that can accommodate a group of 6 or 8.
Excellent food. Pity some guest by our the next table were extremely loudy and we had to almost shout to hear one each other.
Was genuinely just ok. Mediocre at best.
I've been wanting to go for some time and maybe we went on an off night, but the service was chaotic. There are only ten covers and two people serving, we waited 15 minutes to order a drink and ordered our food which was great, really enjoyed it, however when we wanted to leave we waited 15 minutues to pay. Finally went to the reception area to pay and they rolled their eyes when we asked to pay so while I enjoyed the food not sure I'd go back.
Fantastic food & service. I've been wanting to go for ages so had high expectations and wasn't disapointed.
Staff was super friendly and helpful.
The food was AMAZING can't praise it enough. Every bite was an explosion of flavours. You could feel the love they put on their food.
Really a good experience.
Amazing food. As a French person, I must admit that it is heaven in the bowl and on the plate. The chef deserves a Michelin star!
And the team is lovely, always!
Even the wine list is spot on!
One of the best places in London for food lovers!
I rarely leave reviews. These guys deserve the effort of a few good words. They really know what they're doing here. Tucked away in haggerston, they totally over deliver on expectations. Intelligent Chinese small plates with some subtle Portuguese touches. What an absolute treat. They should be busier than they are and maybe they will be soon when word gets out. I took some friends who are local, it blew them away, but they weren't aware of it's existence. Go with a few friends, order the whole menu, dive in to dish after dish of flavours flavours flavours.
Visually pleasing and tasty food. Small portions, but filling. Quite pricey for what you get.
Loved all dishes except for the tomato and crab congee, which was a big NO.
this must be one of the most nuanced, delicate, precise, casual restaurants in London at the moment. thoroughly enjoyable,
Hands down one of the most delicious meals ive had in a long time. Order everything! Food was great, service great!
Excellent food at good value and wonderful atmosphere reminiscent of my favourite Berlin restaurants. I will be back for sure.
The placr is a bit drafty , that is due the building. An open kitchen and no lobbied area at the front door. Could install a thick curtanin atthe entrance.
Some dishes are a bit too salty but overall is nice but a bit pricey.
Their dishes are very small, like London Tapas size. All tasy nice.
Loved some of the dishes especially the smocked octopus, the nettle tempura, and the pork dish.
The mezcal cucumber cocktail was one of the best I have had in London.
The service was quite slow and unattentive. We booked a table and unfortunately we were seated at the bar. As the space was so small would have been nice if there were at least some hooks to hang our Coates or bags.
Slightly overpriced but Overall I would recommend it to a friend as some of the dishes and the cocktail were really delicious.
