French
Now celebrating its fiftieth anniversary under the ownership of Georges Briguet, since 1964 Le Périgord has offered classic French cuisine in an elegant setting in midtown Manhattan. Recently renovated, Le Périgord is a premier destination for French cuisine in New York. The New York Times calls it “a French restaurant the way French restaurants used to be,” complete with white tablecloths and exemplary service from wait staff in tuxedos.
Besides tableside service of Dover sole, duck à l’orange and rack of lamb, the traditional menu also includes such staples as individual beef Wellington, pike quenelles, coquilles St. Jacques and kidneys in mustard sauce. And don’t forget to leave room for the fabulous soufflés and the legendary “temptation trolley” of desserts, which always includes such timeless favorites as tarte Tatin, chocolate mousse and floating islands. The extensive, award-wining wine list includes a fine selection of old and recent vintages at sensible prices.

Overall the food was very good and I would recommend it. We were a party of two and the tables were very close together so that we could hear everything the people at the next table were talking about. The service was below the quality of the food. We were seated and never given the menu. Had to ask for it. Maybe it was just our table because I noticed other tables were getting better service. Overall the experience was very good and my husbands lamb was excellent.

Le Perigord is one of our go-to places for special occasions. It's been pretty much the same for the 30 or so years I've been going there. And that's a good thing. I believe some of the waiters have been there for decades. Also a good thing. The food is very traditional/rather old fashioned French, which we like a lot. It's cozy and you can hear yourself talk! We do recommend!

It was a Valentine s Day celebration and we had heard about the Restaurant from friends who raved about it. We were quite disappointed. The ambiance was sombre and insipid. The food was heavy on thick sauces and thin on taste. The service was attentive and unpretentious. The dessert ( a tarte tatin) was served very cold. The lamb was insipid and the accompanying vegetables were tasteless. Much ado about an old fashioned restaurant that has an undeserved reputation.

excellent classic French restaurant. it has been open for 50 years and the banquette I sat on must have been original as the covering was split and needs to be restored-----but that is just a quibble....My companion lives in Paris and she was highly impressed by this restaurant...It deserves to continue to excel for another 50 years Also it was a nice touch that we were able to order a bottle of Beaujolais for only $32---few , if any, high end restaurants have any low cost wines on their wine list.............mb

Le Perigord shown brightly through a snow storm and Restaurant Week. They had a full staff and made me feel very welcomed. The food was terrific: pate, veal kidneys in a mustard sauce with spinach and Arborio rice sides, and finally two quenelles of mousse - one chocolate, and one Grand Marnier. I was so pleased that kidneys and frog legs were on the menu. The classic French restaurant ambiance was present throughout: fresh, large pink roses on each table, starched linens, and muted colors on the walls and banquettes. My dining partners were snow-bound but I was made to feel very welcome after my trek to the restaurant. We expect to try dining again when the weather improves.

Decided to try Le Perigord for a restaurant week lunch. I knew it was an old line French restaurant. After lunch, I realized how much I miss these restaurants -- so many now gone! Lunch was delightful, the food delicious (my salmon with lemon saffron sauce merveilleux!) the service attentive and warm. And we discovered there is an everyday lunch prix fixe. We will return!

Absolutely insipid, uninspired from the moment you enter. The decor is dated and a bit dingy. The bread was stale and flavorless. The food was about what one would expect from a high-school cafeteria. I had high expectations of this former temple of French gastronomy. It turned out to be bad in most every way.

It started with our reservation not being in the book. When I told the maitre d' we had used Open Table. He used the F word to describe the app. We were shown to a roomy table immediately, albeit next to the waiters station. Service was slow and absent minded. The prix fixe was $75 and yet, half the choices had supplements - not smart. My husband chose the appetizer plate and went 3 times before it was replenished so he could choose. Restaurant is clearly old and tired and in need of Change.

Tried it twice. OK food, extremely slow service at a $75 pre-fixe with several surcharge items, no wine list by the glass. The "red" choice I got was bad and $15 per serving. Won't go back.

As usual, it was low-key impeccable service with a nice variety of entrees for Restaurant Week. The wine list offers a fair spectrum of pricepoints. And enough of the sloppy casual, put on a jacket and dine w. class.

On Sunday, January 29, 2017, during NYC Restaurant Week, my wife and I had dinner there. It was excellent. The last time that we had dinner there was last summer. The host greeted us when we arrived. This restaurant is very elegant and quiet. It has the art of fine dining. The service was excellent, too. My wife had the vegetable tart and I had the pate du chef. We both had the filet of salmon, which was delicious. We had the floating island. It restaurant is very reliable.

This is a classic French restaurant that has always catered to the toney local crowd. Food is delicious and reliable; the atmosphere quiet, reserved and offers understated elegance. It was a good value for restaurant week and normally at $75 prefixe would not be terrible but it would sure be nice if they also offered a la carte. Also I always feel that I have to fight for a better table because the longtime mature d' can be snooty and give a terrible table to people he doesn't know. But for the right occasion this is a perfect choice.

We recently enjoyed dinner at Le Perigord during NYC's Restaurant Week. The meal was delicious. The highlights were the vegetable tart with a tangy butter sauce for an appetizer and the fresh fruit tart for dessert. The night we were there the fruit tart was made with pears. Don't skip that! The chocolate mousse was also a favorite. The beef bourguignon was hearty and flavorful.

Went during Restaurant Week and it was a great choice. Food was excellent and nice size portions. We had a glass each of bordeaux with our meal which was recommended and we like a lot. Waiter and wait staff were friendly and informative. Waiter brought us the bottle of wine so we could take a picture in order to see if we could purchase on our own. Owner took the time to speak with us as well. Will come back.

Great lunch at a favorite "old school" restaurant. Good service. Wonderful old delights....quenelles and ile flottant. The vegetable tort appetizer was delicious. Such a nice restaurant AND a lunch time bargain. I love this restaurant. It has a 50's/60's comfort level, but not really old fashioned or stodgy. Maybe timeless? What could be better than that?
