Anchoring the renaissance of Rockefeller Center is Le Rock, a thoughtful revamp of a historic Art Deco space from James Beard Award-winning chefs Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr. From the team behind some of Manhattan’s best restaurants (including Frenchette and Le Veau d'Or) comes an updated take on a grand brasserie in a iconic space, hailed by The New York Times in a Critic’s Pick three star review as “truly exciting”. Though focused on French cuisine, the location is iconic New York - Le Rock is located on 50th St between Fifth and Sixth Avenues adjacent to the Theater District, as well as MoMA and Radio City Music Hall. Open six days a week (closed Sunday), weekdays with continuous service from lunch until 9 pm.

This is the scene for soignée seafood towers, saucy bison au poivre, and showstopping tarte tatin. No wonder Lee Hanson and Riad Nasr have been named James Beard Semifinalists for Outstanding Restaurateur.

Leek appetizer was EXCELLENT. Steak frites was a mediocre cut but served at the correct degree of rareness. Service was attentive. Cherry shuffle was delicious but the cherry coulis served with it was syrupy and icky sweet.

We consider ourselves somewhat ‘regulars’ there, more often frequenting the bar - having cocktails and dining there. We’ve only dined in the dining area twice. The first time, we ended up leaving after receiving no service for approx. 15 to 20-mins. after we were seated - we consequently left and dined at the bar. The second was today, our daughter’s birthday (and celebration of her new job)! We noted that for our reservations and stated it both to the host and our server. Sadly, there was zero acknowledgement or celebration, not even a candle on the dessert that we ordered - not even a verbal ‘happy birthday’. We left disappointed, maybe it’s something that this establishment doesn’t acknowledge, but we feel that it’s a huge miss when someone chooses that restaurant to celebrate a special occasion.

Our lunch and service was excellent. My only request, if the charge is 30 dollars plus tax and tip on a glass of champagne, please give more than a few sips. That was disappointing — actually more infuriating.

Service was a bit odd. My dish was misdescribed to me. Timing was odd. We waited a long time at times. Always a lovely room though.

Took our grand daughter for dinner (my wife, me and grand daughter). We loved it and she thought it very cool before we went to a Broadway show. Staff was very nice

This location was a French bistro in a past life. The food and service were superb but it’s a bit open and could use more ambience. Art deco feel but not a lot of art work to fill it in. We sat a great table near the window but the sills were not finished. Actually it feels like it still needs some finishing touches.
