Sushi Nakazawa - Dining Room
Both sushi bar seats and tables in our dining room are made available 30 calendar days in advance.
This was my second experience at sushi nakazawa. Everything was wonderful, except for the quality of the fish. I’ve enjoyed many omakase offerings throughout the city, and the quality of the fish was lacking.
It was a great meal with great wine and good sake recommendations. 2nd time going. Will go again.
best sushi meal i've had EVER! this was my second time with the omakase and it was just as amazing as i remembered it to be. i wish i actually lived in the east coast to enjoy this at least once a month!
Really rude services and too much ingredients in fish.
I’m from San Francisco and travel to Japan often. When you order Toro, especially at an expensive Sushi restaurant, one would expect to receive a marbled peice of delicious Tuna. Here, you receive what I could only describe as “puree” of Toro on rice - something that they will do in Japan to hide not so fresh Toro cuts that were expensive when purchased. Other fish was chewy and some slices had evidence that they were more than a day old or near frozen for a period of time. I could forgive this at a three star sushi place... but not for this price.
Fine dining Omakase experience at its best!
this price can eat much better food ， i have a 9 course omakase ，but i dont want to eat after the 5 course ....
Food was good, they can modify the meal according to your preferences as well.
The meal was beyond fantastic. The dining room was a bit louder than we were hoping for. If you have the option go with the Sushi Bar.
Excellent sushi. The west-coasters giving a contrary opinion are just regional snobs. I’ve eaten at the beat west coast places & in Japan. Nakazawa is strong.
Food is good. Sushi variety is a bit limited, but fresh.
Overall, it is a omakase choice in NYC.
definitely relaxing environment to have Sushi if you are not sitting at sushi bar. Service is great at Tamgo is great.
The experience was marvelous. the 23 types of sushi served to us were delicious and beautifully presented.

In a word - disappointing. Dining room was way too loud, wait staff was cold and uninterested. Food great, but too expensive.
For paying $600 for two people and all the rave reviews I was definitely expecting the best sushi ever. The omakase was fresh but definitely not a wow.

My fourth time and it delights every single time. It is spectacular!
I consider myself to have had some fairly exceptional sushi throughout my lifetime. This restaurant elevates sushi to a completely new level. I don’t write many recommendations for or against restaurants but this one deserves it. The entire meal was a perfectly crafted experience with incredible attention to detail for each piece. The sake pairing is worthwhile, and takes you for a ride through a carefully crafted beverage experience as well. Overall the exquisitely prepared sushi tasted incredible, and the service was impeccable. One of the finest meals I’ve ever had.
Our favorite sushi dining experience outside of Japan
Sushi Nakazawa was recommended to us by a friend, and we are so very thankful we took them at their word. Neither my husband nor I wanted the food to stop coming out. It was amazing, and by far the best sushi we have ever had. We will absolutely come back the next time we are in town.
Hate to say it but we were disappointed.
It's a combo of the food and the atmosphere/service.
The place is super stuffy. The service is formal and cold. We felt uncomfortable the whole time.
The sushi was fine. We did the standard omakase which was $120 pp. Of 20 pieces I would say two were really good but not a single one had a wow factor. Taste was redundant.
We love a tasting menu. We aren't afraid to spend $$ on an amazing meal and experience but I actually left feeling guilty like we had just wasted $300 on 40 pieces of sushi, one glass of sake and a bottle of sparkling water.
The best sushi money can buy or somewhat close. Just amazing.
I can’t count how many times we have celebrated life’s milestones here. And we love it. Simply the best.
This is the type of experience that everyone should have once in their life.
We arrived a little early ahead of our reservations. Table was already ready at the back of the restaurant- it felt secluded and private. We were given the option to have either the regular omakase or the premium omakase. We went with the premium omakase, and needless to say it was delicious.
The attention to detail from the waitstaff was a nice touch. The third course into the meal they noticed I was left handed without me saying anything, and they plates the sushi appropriately for me. I didn’t even have to say anything - which was delightful.
All the fish was fresh, nicely prepared and the last piece of sushi of the first four courses was the best out of all of them (king salmon, yellowtail, chopped fatty tuna, dungeness crab). I believe the regular omakase and premium omakase differs after that.
With the premium omakase, we got A5 wagyu, abalone, and caviar sushi after - all of which tasted delicious. The premium omakase is a must try if you’re able to and you won’t be disappointed.
Both my husband and I truly enjoyed this exquisite restaurant on my husband's birthday. Loved the ambiance, omakase was very nicely picked, delicious, diverse, yet delicately put together.
Het eten was super. Veel verschillende en bijzondere sushi’s. We zijn een redelijk “ervaren” sushi eters. Daar kregen we enkele nieuwe vissoorten die we niet kennen. Kwaliteit van de vis en rijst waren uitstekend. Als ik een kritiekpuntje mag geven, dan vond ik het rijst op een gegeven moment net iets te zuur. Ik weet niet of dat bewust is gedaan, want in het begin vonden we de sushi’s een 10. Otoro is niet meer zoals ze vroeger waren, maar hier kan de chef niks aan doen, gezien de goede bluefin bijna niet meer te verkrijgen zijn (ook zlefs lastig in Japan)
Qua sfeer was het top.
Bediening vond ik persoonlijk soms een beetje arrogant overkomen. Misschien komt het door het Amerikaans dat we niet gewend zijn. We hadden ook een sake pairing genomen. De sake’s waren erg goed. Voor uitleg van de sake’s was de 1 wel gepassioneerd, de ander speelde meer een bandje af, dus dat is wel jammer.
Qua prijs/kwaliteit verhouding vonden we net aan de hoge kant. Voor die prijs (192 voor premiu menu ex taxes and tip) hebben we beter gehad, maarja je bent wel in NYC.
Dus als je top sushi (misschien de beste?) wil eten in NYC en niet beroerd bent om wat uit te geven, dan is dit een aanrader.
If you're looking for the traditional high Omakaze, this is not the place. The experience has been updated to be more comfortable and massive.
It skips two key elements, the first one is to see the chef work in front of you, thats why you sit infront of the chef in all the Omakaze restaurants in Japan. The second one the order of the nigiri was a little bit confusing, the idea is to go from the lightest to the more robust in flavor, here, its a back and forth with criteria like 5 pieces of Salmon or tuna.
Overall is a really good experience, great for a date or a business meal, the service is outstanding. Just think your up for a delicious night out, not for a Omakaze experience.

First class omakase with impeccable service and attention to detail. We enjoyed a wonderful sake pairing as well.
Nakazawa has a lot of potential, and the place has quality ingredients and great atmosphere. Although he still has some room to go before he reaches the level of Jiro Ono or even Shiro Kashiba, where he used to work under.
Went here for our first anniversary. Food was delicious, and melted so heavenly in our mouths. Different from your traditional restaurants where you get to pick your food, but here you don’t. Setting was quiet and quite romantic with the candle lighting coupled along with lightly dimmed lighting. Perfect for special occasions only unless your wallet can afford otherwise. Again, food is to die for.
From the moment you entered the restaurant your senses were elevated to a higher level. As you were guided to your table you past the sushi bar where you were greeted by the Chef and his apprentices and the wait staff. The tables were minimally decorated but elegant. Each person had a purpose and executed their job like a well oiled machine. From the pouring of the water to description of the nights experience. I enjoyed each piece of sushi and every glass of sake as they were presented to you and explained the process of preparation. The evening was an experience I will not soon forget.

Food was absolutely amazing, the service is the best I’ve ever had at a restaurant.
I’m a sushi snob. Nothing was wow. I was disappointed and I think Jiro would be too! Best part of the meal was his infamous tamago. Would not go back.
I don’t know what more to say. This was my 6th time eating here and it gets better each and every time. The seafood is all outstanding, but it is the quality of the rice that is truly transcendent. We had the tea pairing and I cannot recommend that option enough, as sake with sushi just does not bring out the complexity of flavors that fine Japanese green tea does.
The service is, as usual, attentive and informative yet discreet.
This is the finest sushi restaurant in New York without question. We cannot wait to go back again.
