   An early Friday night dinner, loud, small, hipster bar feel, better for a younger crowd than us. Food was fine but nothing exceptional, service was fine, just overall too loud to really have a conversation without shouting,and with tables closely packed together inside. Martinis get served in tumblers, if that gives you an idea of the degree of sophistication it carries. My wife made a meal of side dishes. I had the meatloaf.

   ...but I don't. The scene is so layed-back and a breath of fresh air given the neighborhood. That said, the food was pretty meh. The wedge salad was pretty good but the bacon slabs were fatty to the extreme. Kale salad was pretty bitter and lasagne looked great but the flavors were just ok. That said, we may try it again and see if maybe it was an off night.

   Strange little awesome place. Don't order the kale salad and think you are eating healthy, but order it for a treat... Kale for a treat? Yep. The fish tacos are really delicious. The tortilla chips have to be homemade, I can't confirm that, but my tastebuds can. Offbeat and modish and delicious.

   Belle Reve had very good food and it was served hot. The salads are big and filling as well. Unfortunately, the service was lacking. The server did not seem too interested in serving us and the busboy checked in on us once. The restaurant was not too busy yet the server stood at the bar and talked with friends/customers and ignored our empty drinks for nearly a half hour. We asked for the check and she acted surprised that we were done. I am not sure what kind of vibe the restaurant is going for, but the hostess was wearing sweatpants which seems odd in the service industry. I will usually go back to a restaurant based on service if the food is moderate. I won't go back if the food is good, but the service is lacking.

    However, this is NOT the place to come if you just want dinner and want to be able to talk to the people around you. The music is way too loud for that. Food is okay, but not great and the value for the money is probably average for this area and typical for a bar. Your service for food is probably NOT as good as a regular restaurant, but fairly typical for a bar.

    Great drinks and service. Really liked the food and the atmosphere was really cool. Kind of dark and like a dive bar but not a dive bar at all. Would totally go back.

    I've lived in Manhattan for 20 years and my friend recommended this place to me last week. I hate that I've never been before but I will definitely be making up for it. The two guys that sat and served us were dolls, I loved them, the music was amazing, especially when Bowie came on, I was dancing in my chair. My flank steak was delicious and y husbands ravioli was creamy and hit the spot. I will definitely go back again soon and for sure in the summer when will can sit outside and people watch, my favorite thing to do

    The food was the high point of the visit. The tables and chairs are bar style and nothing special but the food was delicious. I highly recommend the salmon and veggie sides.

    Overall I wouldn't recommend. I thought the cocktails would be better. There was very little variety and the drink I ordered was one of the worst Ive ever had. Food was decent. Overall, for dinner I wouldn't go back, maybe be better for a quick after-work beer or brunch.

    Booked a small group dinner here during the holiday season and was thrown off by the noise volume and how crowded the space seemed at 6pm. The food was very tasty, and a good value, but my friends and I had a hard time hearing each other over the music as we tried to catch up over our meals (though the tunes weren't bad). Feels more divey than I expected but has a lot of personality.

    Great food in this small, hopping bar just south of Canal. Burger, guac, and fish tacos were excellent! Fun place with 90's music blasting.

    Was looking for a reasonably priced place in the area and took a chance that paid off great. A diverse menu and everything everyone at our table ordered was fantastic. It was a fun atmosphere and felt like a dive, but only in the best sense of the word. Can't wait to go back!

    Our waitor was great. The waitress for another table took a table from our table without warning or explanation. SHE WAS VERY RUDE! Our food almost fell off of the table.

    While the space is small and eclectic the service and food was very good. The pea soup was best ever and the pork ragu is something my wife now wants to make. I saw someone having the burger and I want to go back to try that.

    Small, quaint, rustic eatery with friendly staff. Try the burger, it's obscenely delicious, as are the chips and the fries. It's a heart attack waiting to happen, but what a way to go!!!

    Belle Reve is brand new and super exciting. A few tiny rough patches (cocktails too sweet, too much dressing on the salad), but overall dynamite fun and good food! For a new restaurant, everything is already smooth, the wait staff courteous, well trained, remembered everything, already had favorites on the menu, and impressed our group. Bar tender was great, entertainment, a total surprise, but well done! Overall, well done. We'll be back, again, and again.
