Beautiful restaurant, but the food was a little too expensive for the portion sizes.
The food and service here is outstanding. I've been here several times and seem to always order the mussels or clams if its on the menu.
Great food and service! I would definitely go back!
Mocking Bird lost a lot of its old charm with the new location. More trendy and hip, less quirky and exotic. However the craft cocktails and full liquor license make up for it. Our food was great. Everything we had was well executed and right on point. The service was great. The wine list seemed somewhat unimpressive for the price point and could use some work.
The food offerings were narrow but had enough spectrum for us to find suitable options.
All in all a great experience and a fun hang for a great dinner and drinks before a show at the Fox!
Excellent food, great experience! We loved it and will be back
This was my second, mediocre experience of Mockingbird. The first time, about a year ago, our service was terrible and food was fine but not great. Our service last week was better (though the front desk couldn’t find our reservation even though my fiend had already checked in). Our drinks were mediocre, and the food was again good, not great. The watermelon salad and duck pate were very hood, but the Moroccan chicken and meatballs were unimpressive. I’d give it a B grade.
Cocktails were great. Food was very good. Nose level was deafening. Very hard to carry on a conversation.
Service was lacking and the wine list was not very good at all . Not many choices by the glass. Food was great.
Delicious Vegetarian Tartine and Trout! We sat upstairs which at first was very noisy due to a large party seated next to us. Once they left, it was much better. Overall though, the restaurant's noise level is on the high side.
Our server was attentive and friendly. We all enjoyed our experience.
Great food, great staff. Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. I recommend the trout salad. They are conscientious when addressing allergies too. Highly recommended!
We had lunch for 5 and the food and service was delightful. We all ordered salads and a plate of fries to share. Delicious crispy fries served with a aioli and a ketchup. the aioli was yummuy with the crispy hot fries! nice.
We had dinner on Saturday night
No bread available server informed us after we finished our salads
They were out of 2 entrees
No bread pudding for dessert
Apart from that everything was good
The Brussels Sprouts are amazing!!!
Very accommodating of my food constraints and the food was very good. I’ll be back
We were pleased for this find. Excellent food, service and beers. This was a special occasion and they provide that extra service. Lovely time, we will return, with friends!
This is the second time I have been here for dinner and, within a month, the food seems to have declined. The menu was the same but the watermelon in the watermelon salad was not fresh, the steak was cold and the food was generally lackluster. I really like the ambiance and the staff are very attentive and courteous. Hope this is not a sign of the beginning of the end for this place which I was happy to have found.
Burger need improvement. Taste and texture reminded me of rubber. Otherwise, everything else was great!
I made this reservation based on the reviews I read here at OpenTable and was super disappointed. I think most people would feel pretty stupid making a reservation (especially when OpenTable is telling you how popular it is) only to arrive to a pretty empty space. The space itself is cool and I can see how it would have a good vibe, but it wasn't happening at lunch. The food was decent (although my bf said his burger was sweet...) Our server was a lame millennial who thought she was so cool. She was totally lame and the service was mediocre. All in all, it would take a lot for me to return, being that it's not in my neighborhood and I have many more places, closer to try. Too bad. The owner was there and he seemed like a nice guy. Still, this place needs to tighten everything up.
Host needs more try
Mockingbird was a pleasant surprise. We were looking for a place for dinner near the Fox Theatre and this had good reviews. We all though the food was creative, delicious, with generous (but not overly generous) portions, and beautifully presented. Even the brussels sprout appetizer, which apparently must be on every menu by law, was a standout!
Must try Brussels sprouts and watermelon salad with mint.
2nd visit and again didn’t disappoint. Creative menu. Keith upfront mgr is a real pro.
Good appetizers. Main course was a little salty. Service was ok, not super attentive.
Very nice staff. Food was we'll prepared using seasonal ingredients.
Great time with the fiance for our anniversary month. I literally destroyed both the fried brussel sprouts and steak w/fries. Mockingbird will definitely be added to the GoTo list for restaurants.
It was my first visit for lunch, and would love another visit and try more of the menu, food was wonderful, very fresh, generous portion, and so tasty!
Good lunch spot in downtown Oakland. Make a reservation if you have more than two people.
The food was fantastic but the service was notably weak. Not sure if our server was having a bad night or he’s new, but he wasn’t attentive or responsive. Coffee came out 20 minutes before simple dessert and we had to stop him to say thank you before we left. He was walking right by us and was going to keep walking. Disappointed.
Mockingbird checked all of the boxes. Great food in a very well-managed restaurant. One of our best Oakland restaurant experiences.
Great food and ambiance. Waitstaff super friendly and helpful. Warmly greeted by the GM as well. We’ll be back for sure. (P.S. recommend the brussels sprouts and hangar steak).
Loved the setup! The food was solid and the staff were great. Would go again to go down the drinks menu.
very good service, food was tasty, but I think it might not have been organic. not sure if the menu advertised organic, but at the price, should be pesticide free. I can only eat organic, unfortunately.
I love this restaurant. The food is great, I have not had a meal I did not like. The Brussel sprouts are a must first course. I've switched between salads and the Mid eastern fare and love them both. The steak frites is the bomb. The ambiance is super cool if not a bit loud. Not a place for the quiet lunch or private conversation. All in all, my favorite downtown eatery.
Over all Atmosphere was relaxing, clean dining area. Salad could of had a bit more chicken in it.
Great experience overall...manager was visible, friendly and helpful.
We chose this neighborhood restaurant because it was one of the few restaurants that was open on a Monday night. We had attentive service, good cocktails, and warm atmosphere. We were expecting more from the food for the prices, but overall we had a great time.
bartender was engaging and created beautiful cocktails. we were efficiently served and thought the food was interesting and delicious. would definitely return.
Daiquiri was good, brussels sprouts were excellent, Moroccan chicken was delicious, but skirt steak was too fibrous and difficult to chew.
Very good locally sourced farm to table meal. A bit noisy but obvious they have tried to address it with sound tiles. Great service.
