$30 and under
Contemporary American
Standard Tap is a trendy gastropub that’s popular for its burgers. Inside the restaurant, you will be greeted by a large blackboard that lists the daily house specials in various colors and a jukebox machine that features various tunes. Apart from its main dining room, Standard Tap has two full service bars and a booth room on the first floor. Enjoy a specialty cocktail with your meal. Tomato crab soup is a popular starter at Standard Tap along with an impressive list of various appetizers and small plates, including beef carpaccio, grilled octopus, duck liver mousse and mushroom risotto. For your main course, try an entrée such as the Berkshire pork chop, chicken pie and mussels chorizo. End your meal with a sweet dessert like crème brûlée or apple strudel.

I give it 5 stars on everything. It's a lively tap house, also a romantic spot. How's it both? It's due to a good policy; the downstairs w/bar is open seating (cheerfully noisy, a l'il loud for us). But the upstairs is for reservations, & (at least on a warm, muggy, Thurs. PM in June) most people ate outdoors on the deck; so we had the quiet, softly lit indoors almost to ourselves. We had a lovely anniversary dinner; food was delicious, & the portions left us comfortably full, just barely room for dessert. The sound track was mellow old-time jazz, which we liked too. We live in West PHL, lots of great dining nearby. But now & then we trek across town for the historic vibes & current tastiness of the Standard Tap, too. Well worth it!

I guess I was expecting more since I saw it on the food network show. The menu was interesting and the beer selection was good. I would recommend it to those who are beer drinkers.

This is one of the best bars in all of Philadelphia. The food is eclectic an excellently prepared, service is friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable. Draft list is all local craft (within like 90 miles). Go there, you won't be disappointed.

Went here for softshell crab. Both the sandwiches and the salad (which we saw but did not try) were awesome. Huge portions and nicely presented. This place is ahead of its time - the neighborhood is quickly becoming upscale.

loved dining here for "Dine Out for the Environment" night, and knowing all the delicious food was sourced from local and sustainable farms. http://www.dineoutfortheenvironment.org. service was a little slow. and the party next to us got a little too loud for me to hear my friends across the table. but we will definitely be back

My boyfriend and I were seated outside for dinner which was great. The porch was nice except the tables were extremely close together making it difficult to get up to even use the bathroom. Also, the only menu placed on the wall was behind me and was very difficult to see. Nothing had explanations and I had to ask the server many questions, which made it difficult to make a decision because I felt I didn't really know what I was getting. The beer was great and the list had many options. The food overall was not exceptional but it was fine. I had the grilled chicken and my boyfriend had the tuna sashimi. We would come back but probably just for drinks not dinner again.

From the bartender to the hostess (mandy) to the waitress, service was friendly and accomadating on a busy Friday night. The menu is so much more then pub grub which is great for mixed groups (some were healthy and some were not)...

Went here for a date, was really surprised at the great ambiance and food. We both had oysters, my boyfriend had the mussels, I had an asparagus sandwich, and everything was great. They also donate $2 to CHOP if you order a brownie sundae, which was a great excuse for us to go ahead and splurge (it was huge even being split between us). Draft list is great, highly recommended.

Not sure what the hype is over this place. The menu is very limited and pricey for its selections. Service was fair, at best, and inexperienced. Our server dropped a full glass bottle of water on top of my beer glass, chipping the glass. She simply said "Oops". She then seemed annoyed when we asked her to bring a fresh glass of beer since the other one had glass in it. She then returned to the table with a half full glass of beer! How tacky. She never offered to replace any of the food on the table, since it too could have had glass in it. Since we were almost finished eating, and since our meals were just okay, we just decided to leave. We won't be back nor will we recommend this place.

I like Standard Tap, and I want to like it more, but the idea of only having a few chalkboards around the restaurant where the food and drinks are listed makes it difficult. I don't like standing over another couple's table so I can read the menu, and I don't like having to get up to read the beer list to see what I want next. Having said that, the food there is always great. I had the Mako sandwich, and it was delicious. I'd never eaten shark before, and I'm glad I gave it a try.

the food was amazing. the only issue was that they did not have a menu except for one posted on the board. the writing was about an inch big and unless you were at the table right in front of it you were not able to see it. It was a little dark which was fine but when trying to read a chalkboard it made it a little difficult. our server was knowledgable just i felt because we were a table of two we were not taken care of as well if we were a larger party

Great local microbrew selection of beers. Food was okay at best, but service was great. Love the atmosphere in the restaurant. It was a very vibrant bar scene. Overall good, but not great. About a 6.5 to perhaps a 7 on Scale of 1 to 10.

We each had burgers which were quite good.. but a bit pricey for what they were.. We shared a ruby red fried shrimp appetizer which the shrimp were tasty but tiny.. The dessert was a gem... fried apple pie with vanilla ice cream... that was the best thing we had.. The special craft beers I ordered were quite good and the martinis my girlfriend had were made nicely.. Liquor prices here are a bit high... Overall this is a fun place to go with a lot of energy on a weekend.... The food and drink is good too.. but if I had one criticism... its a lot of money to spend for what you get.. The value could be a little better..

We attend brunch for the wood and smokey beer event. The food was very good and well matched with the styles of beer. Portions were medium to large so you really filled up. Specialty beers were offered in flights so you could try many without getting into too much trouble. It was crowded but not packed; it was worth making a reservation to ensure a seat. Highly recommend!

My favorite place in the neighborhood. Good food, beer and service. Mussels were a terrific cold night dinner for an evening out with my daughter. We also enjoyed the liver pate. 2016 update-We've been coming to the Tap almost since it opened. Times have changed! You're less likely to get mugged walking over, but now reservations are required. The kitchen has slipped a notch, too. But it's still worth a visit, especially for the great beer list.

Went for lunch with friends, and was not disappointed! I had a great Smoked Turkey and sopressata sandwich, on focaccia bread. Very tasty! others had the cheeseburger, and Avocado BLT, and had good comments on their taste as well. Definitely worth it. since is was a Sunday Lunch, we did not try the beer list, but it looked like it had plenty of winners.

This was my first time at Standard Tap and I really enjoyed the experience. Our server was outstanding... knows her beers! I told her what I like and she gave me 4 great beers (did a flight for $10). I liked the option of trying small quantities of several different beers, something I typically do with wine at other places. In any case my salad (apple, pecans and goat cheese) was really yummy and large enough to share. My burger was one of the best that I've had anywhere. This place makes me wish I lived in their neighborhood.

Incredible spot. Great beer selection and amazing food. The food is fresh and thoughtfully prepared, and each table is attended to by friendly, professional servers. The only bad thing about Standard Tap is the lack of convenient parking nearby. We parked in a two hour only spot and got a $26 dollar ticket. I guess we could have moved the car, but we were having too much fun. Go to Standard Tap. You won't be disappointed
