Montecatini's opening day was October 17, 1989, the day of the Loma Prieta earthquake in California. Since then, Montecatini Ristorante has become a place of true Italian dining experience in Walnut Creek, California. All our dishes are meticulously prepared with the finest and freshest ingredients. Our pastas and entrees are served piping hot from our kitchen to your table.

Currently, Montecatini is awarded "Best of East Bay 2017" for the Best Italian Restaurant in the SF East Bay Area by Diablo Magazine and "Best Pasta" by Walnut Creek Magazine. Our chef-owner Ermes Paulin has been our executive chef since our restaurant's opening day 28 years ago. A true Italian chef, Ermes was born in Vicenza Italy, and was classically trained in Rome at one of the finest culinary academy hotel in the world at the age of 17. Ermes is the heart and soul of Montecatini. You can find him at the restaurant almost every day creating the most delicious and consistently amazing dishes for everyone!

I had an okay, if unattractively presented veal piccata with an uninteresting, though properly cooked veg of mixed carrots & broccoli. My wife had a salad that brought to mind the very simple diet plan I once heard recommended "A head of lettuce before every meal, then eat whatever you want." This head came with one slice of tomato and a small wedge of frittata. My wife enjoyed her clam soup. Sourdough bread lacked a nice hard crust and was served with a dish of rock hard little butter packets. The house white wine was fine, although my second choice. I had noticed what seemed to be a full bar ... and their menu says they can make most cocktails .... but something as classic as a Sazerac isn't one of them! Service was prompt and fine. Somewhat on the noisy side, but a very convivial and comfortable old-school scene ... and clearly very popular. We had an early reserveration (5:45 pm) that we were able to get on fairly short notice ... but it did fill up and there seemed to be a small, though fairly quickly seated, line at around 6:30 pm.

Explorer - This was our first time at the restaurant even though we had walked by it a number of times since it is so close to the Lesher Theatre in Walnut Creek. It always seemed so crowded and noisy. It was crowded at 6 PM on the Sat. night we went there but the noise didn't interfere. The food was ample and outstanding. My husband and I both had soup and their special pork dish.The service was also very fast. There was so much food we had to take some home. Yes, we would highly recommend it and see why others have recommended it.

Great food and service, combined with an easy to get to and park alternative to the normal Walnut Creek restaurants. We were having a business meeting and the owner and serving staff allowed us the privacy and the time to not only conduct our meeting but to enjoy the very good food.

Horrible service and cold food. We will not be going back. This restaurant used to be the best but our last two visits were terrible . Food was also bland and pasta watery. Had to get up from the table and ask for lemon (to add taste to the veal) and parmeasean cheese. Getting a drink refill was impossible and they forgot to serve my husbands salad with the rest of our salads. Then brought out the cold food and said they could put under a heat lamp if my husband wanted his salad. Horrible! Save your money and go somewhere else. There are plenty of restaurants in Walnut Creek that blow this one away.

We went to celebrate our son-in-law's work promotion. Food was very good, service was good, although I didn't appreciate the server pouring all the wine in the bottle into our glasses at once. Food was as always very good, staff friendly and caring. This is probably our 4th or 5th time at this restaurant, and it has never left us wanting. We will go there again.

Had a great dinner here last week. Service from starting with the host who had our table ready to go to the wait staff who were friendly and accommodating, was excellent. Wine selection is extensive and covers the gambit of locals to imports, bottles and glass. Food had an authentic feel to it and the hand-made gnocchi were melt-in-your-mouth good. All in all a great experience with good food. Will be back.

Eat here several times a year and never been disappointed with food or service. We've had most of what is on the menu and all is equally good. Only recommendation is make a reservation as they can get pretty busy and it's often tough to get in. Who doesn't love great Italian food!

My first visit and I loved it. My reservation was honored promptly, the service was wonderful and the food was the best Italian I've had in Walnut Creek. It was packed early on a Tuesday night; reservations are definitely a "must".

Although Montecatini has been around for sometime it was our first time easting there. We will definitely go back as the food was excellent and our server, Mark, was exceptional- very attentive and polite. A very enjoyable evening, indeed.

"Monte's" is a Walnut Creek favorite for good reason. Year after year of just plain excellent Italian food, a fun atmosphere, unpretentious, and works for couples, big families, and everything in between. Monte's is classic neighborhood Italian restaurant in every sense of the word. Eat their once and you'll be returning again and again, just like us.

the food and service were excellent. Our server, Aida, was very helpful with suggestions. We shared the tomato pamadoro...tomatoes,mozzerella, basil. It was more than enogh for two people. the clam liguine was excellent...an abundance of clames. The place was full and the noise level was high. After 9 o'clock it went way down.

Had higher expectations on the food then what we received, my Veal Scallopini was the best part of the meal and I was disappointed by the cheapness of the sides: Baby carrots which looked like they came out of a bag from Safeway and Broccoli which didn't look much better. They could do with a better selection of sides such as Organic Carrots & Asparagus or similar. Our other dish was the Shrimp Capellini which came with a whole pound of Capellini that was drenched in oil, dish could do with more flavor and much much less oils. Didn't bother with desert and our $10 salad was mediocre, wouldn't go back even with a Groupon deal as the total cost was way more than it should have been.

My husband and I dined at Montecatini Restaurant recently with another couple. We all thoroughly enjoyed our dinner, and our server, Lauren, was awesome! Highly recommend this long time Walnut Creek establishment for delicious old fashioned Italian food.
