Our server was just awful. no personality, not being attentive to our table, yelling from behind the coffee stand to ask if the food tasted good, or to ask how we’re doing. Didn’t refill drinks or hot water, over all didn’t seem to care. He is what ruined the otherwise good meal.
Very good place for viewing the Harbour, friendly service and good food too.
Staff are friendly and competent. Setting overlooking the Inner Harbour is spectacular. Food choices and quality very good. An added bonus is that the Robert Bateman gallery is in the same building so you can satisfy your artistic needs at the same time as you feed the inner person.
Our server Alex was just amazing ! Very personable, professional and friendly. Also had some great recommendations. He was always Jonny on the spot when we needed something. My wife and our friend had the seafood linguini and I had the sirloin whiskey crab northwest. All meals were absolutely delicious !!
Great food. Beautiful views. Live music was great. We will definitely go again.
Service was beyond excellent.
Meal was very good, steak perfect, could have had a little more veg.
I could have a just a little bit bigger portion as I was still a bit hungry for a meal, not dessert. With that being said, donuts 👍
Excellent Seafood tower and personable service. Our server was awesome and provided great recommendations to what we mentioned we wanted to do after lunch!
The food was spectacular and really delicious, but service was the slowest you could get. Not sure it was because of that specific evening or if that’s how they usually are. We had a reservation for 2 for 8pm, got there and was told to wait, and when I mentioned the reservation I got a “everyone else already waiting also has an 8pm reservation”. Why make reservations available if tables are not? After 20 minutes of waiting we got to sit. The whole time there were at least 3 empty tables inside without any sign on, and a couple more outside that were not cleared yet. We waited another 30 minutes until our soup and bread arrived, and a couple who sat by us 20 minutes later than us got theirs literally seconds after us. Main course took a reasonable time, but then the server didn’t fire the dessert until after we were done dinner, and it took another good 20 minutes to come out! Pretty frustrating to be sitting around in between courses. The food spectacular though! A
The food and location were great however the surly rude waitress did her best to spoil our night....... nowhere near the great service we have experienced throughout Vancouver and Victoria!
As usual dinner was a wonderful experience.
Sitting outside with the heat lamps and blankets, for those who wanted them, the view was spectacular and the food and service was excellent!
Quite enjoyable. Food was wonderful. Service was excellent. Will dine here again when back in Victoria.
Enjoyed a lovely supper with 6 high school friends. Food was loved by all!!! The waitress was very lovely and gave good recommendations.
Great stop for Clipper Ferry passengers! Beautiful view!
Reservation made on line. Recieved reminders two days in row but staff were enatural curly ither not expecting me
or paying more attention to computer at till. No table reserved and all window tables were taken.
Declined to sit in first table offered (table for two in middle of dining room).
It was a birthday dinner for a friend which I had included in the reservation but there was no mention
of special occasion until "after" we had ordered dessert & I mentioned that is was part of my "gift" to my friend. Waitress paid for dessert. Hmmm!
Waitress: Best thing about the experience!! Friendly, happy in her job, polished, knowledge of menu & FUN!
(natural curly light brown hair) Order for dinner: Halibut fish & Chips. Fish good, chips cold.
Arianna made the whole evening. Great service from her
Out of town guests, we shared the Seafood tower, it was excellent. The server was pleasant and fun.
The service was slow although it was quiet. We had to ask for water twice before it was brought to us. The sauce for the Hawaii Poke Bowl was way too salty, too bad as it has the potential to be delicious.
The waiter took orders from other tables seated after us before our orders. The food ranged from mediocre to good but not great. The waiter was complimented by another table for remembering the entire order and when the customer asked how he did that the waiter responded ‘I went to school’. Embarrassing customers is not a great idea.
Slow service and not with a smile.
Price vs service was really disappointing for a special occassion. I've been here before and had a really nice time, so I think it may have been an off night for the servers.
I also felt it was weird that the staff room is just a curtain that is up where the diners are eating. Most of the time the curtain wasnt all the way closed, so it just made the ambience feel off. I felt sorry for the staff.
One member of our party asked for her steak to be well done. She was not happy with it, saying it was tough and somewhat dry. When she provided that feedback to our server, the server suggested that we talk with the manager. Shortly after, the manager came by and asked about the steak. Upon receiving the feedback on the steak, he made excuses, saying it is hard to deliver a well-done steak without it becoming tough. He offered no compensation (half price on her meal? Full refund on her meal? etc.?). Upon further discussion about his lack of reception of our feedback, he offered some free doughnuts! While not impressed with his offer, we accepted the doughnuts and paid the bill. Not impressed.
Upon meeting him again in the lobby, it became clear that we are locals (aka, not from a cruise ship). All of a sudden he said, "Oh, you are local!". He then offered a coupon (for more doughnuts, with a future order of an entrée). I wasn't impressed. Sorry, but things should be done differently. A well-done steak (while not my choice; I like mine medium rare-to-rare), is still a legitimate choice, and should be delivered with high quality and no excuses. Our combined bill for four people was in the $200 range. I'm sure you understand our frustration.
Great evening here. The food was outstanding and our server was incredible attentive and helpful. I had a panko-encrusted halibut served with a miso sauce that was perfect. They had a good selection of craft beers as well. And with the live jazz music playing along with the meal, the outdoor patio can't be beat for a beautiful evening with a view of the harbor. Only blemish was the mini-donut dessert...they were buried in a thick layer of confectioner's sugar and there were far too many of them (10)! The sauce was delicious, but this would have been perfect with half as many donuts and a light dusting of caster sugar instead.
Really enjoyed our late lunch on the way west to Sooke. We landed at Happy Hour, so we’re able to enjoy food and drink at a discount. The crab and prawn flat bread was delicious and the crab cakes were good, too. Best of all was the nice patio overlooking the Marina.
We enjoyed our experience at this restaurant. The food was quite good, and it was especially fun to eat outside and watch all the activities on the wharf. Since I am rather cold blooded, I was relieved that there were outside heaters and even blankets for the lap if needed.
We went to this restaurant with friends from Texas there were 6 in our party. I had booked a table for Tuesday on the Sunday and had requested an outdoor table.
Very disorganised front end, had to wait for a table and then got stuck on the very outer edge of the patio, it was like we hadn’t reserved.
Waitress didn’t seem very familiar with the drinks, and one of our friends said he had to tell the bartender how to make a Rusty Nail??
Drinks at the table were very sad, Gin and Tonic with no lemon or Lime, I was embarresed that I had brought my friends there, not the quality I expected.
We all had steaks, mediocre and waitress couldn’t remember which steak was which.
Desert came horrible little donuts drowned in icing sugar with a tiny pot of sauce to dip them in, creme brûlée was nice, we asked for spoons and were brought forks, asked again and were brought a soup spoon and 2 large spoons!!!
Will not be going back or recommending this place to anyone, the only good thing is the view.
Lovely spot with great view. We had the seafood tower which had beautiful fresh seafood assortment.
Service was lousy. Tables seated after us, several, received their food 30 minutes before us. There waiter apologized profusely every five minutes. The manager showed up before we received our appetizers and offered to comp desert. At that point we weren’t thinking about desert. After the appetizer, twenty minutes later, came another five minute delivery notice. At the point we threatened to leave just as the meal showed up with another desert offer!!!
At the end when they realized we were not hanging around for a free desert they quickly brought the bill and decided to comp our drinks. When will they realize that free goodies don’ substitute for good service?
Best view in town and a great patio with blankets and heat lamp if it gets cooler... Mussels were fantastic and the staff were attentive
Food, service view all amazing.. would definitely go back and recommend. Crab cakes and oysters were excellent
Sehr gutes Essen. Nicht ganz billig aber Qualität und Lage überzeugen auf ganzer Linie. Super Ausblick. Cocktails waren auch sehr lecker!
Very expensive for mediocre food. Slow service. Never again.
A very good value set 3 course meal. Beautifully cooked.
Good food and great service. Looking over the inner harbour in Victoria while dining is amazing simply can't beat the view.
Eat here for the setting which is great with a lovely view over the Inner Harbour. Food was fine and varied and our server was local, fun and excellent.
Friends reunion. Fantastic experience! Thank you for another wonderful evening. Our server was awesome!
Nothing special here, Service was slow, food and taste so so, ordered Fish and Chips and fish coating was overcooked and hard. Dining tables feel sticky in need of a new refinish coating.
Food was not worth what was paid. Taste and preparation was marginal.
Service was very poor and i will not be recommending it to out of town guests.
My wife and I stopped by for a late dinner last week. The place is beautiful and the food was excellent. The service was a bit slow but thankfully we had an awesome view to distract us from it.
We were very disappointed with our experience at Steamship. When I made the reservation weeks ago, I requested a table on the patio but when we arrived the hostess very rudely told me that they don’t take reservations for the patio but if we wanted to wait over an hour, they could seat us then. We wanted to sit outside as for some reason the inside of the restaurant was sweltering hot.
Our server overall was nice, but forgetful and did not make sure we had what we needed. Three of our party of 5 ordered the Three Course Meal as they specifically wanted the creme brûlée dessert. Our food times and our waitress offer fresh cracked pepper or Parmesan cheese for the two pasta dishes that were ordered nor provided two of our guests with clean silverware when she had taken them away moments befor when she picked up our dirty appetizer plates. So our guests sat for over 5min trying to get the attention of any wait staff, to get clean silverware, only to be ignored. I ended up getting up from our table and walking over to the side station and getting the silverware our guests needed to they could start eating.
When we were through with our meals the server waited forever to clear our dirty plates, and when it came time for the creme brûlée to come out she informed us that they oversold the dessert and she would “try and see if they could substitute something else”...this greatly disappointed our guests as that was the whole reason they ordered the three course meal to begin with. Two of them opted for alternate choices and the third asked for sliced fruit....what she was brought was laughable as it looked like an entire cut up honeydew melon - and nothing else! No blueberries, grapes, strawberries etc - all of which are in season!
For the prices this restaurant charges I expect way more. This was the first - and last time - that any of us will dine at this restaurant again.
Loved our spot on the deck with a great view of the harbor and empress. Steak was great, loved the 3 course option. Great experience.
