About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Great for outdoor dining
  • Great for happy hour
The Salt Line, the popular DC homage to New England’s iconic fish and oyster houses, brings a second location to Arlington’s burgeoning Ballston neighborhood. Just one year in, The Salt Line has already established itself as one of the top dining spots in Northern Virginia. Executive Chef Matt Singer is leading the kitchen team in partnership with award winning Long Shot Hospitality Chef/Partner Kyle Bailey. The Salt Line is where "New England meets the Chesapeake" so guests can expect the same New England classics and renowned raw bar found at the original location, along with lots of new chef driven fish and seafood entrees, house-made pastas, exciting selections of crudos, and of course the best lobster rolls around.

In addition to dining, the welcoming year round outdoor bar (tented in the winter) has also become a favorite neighborhood gathering spot and is the perfect place to enjoy The Salt Line's signature beverage program and grab what many say is the best burger in town.

we had nice service. The food was mixed: great crab pimento dip. The swordfish was seriously overcooked. The farro was tasteless. Would have expected better for the price point.

Great atmosphere, attentive staff, great food. Shared the big seafood platter, an arugula salad, and some bread with my wife.

If you want a lobster roll w/fries for the ridiculous price of $40! this is the place for you. Enjoy your $40 lobster roll with the understanding that the economy remains stable if people are dumb enough to pay it. Generally, the food is good, but this lobster roll didn’t even fill the roll up. As a New. England native, I found the lobster roll price offensive to the point that it overshadowed other decent and better priced menu items. No other restaurants that I could find, including in DC, price their lobster rolls at $40. If they cant find a way to source and prepare a decent lobster roll for a more reasonable price they should just take it off the menu because it’s bad public relations at $40.

Location, food and service was great. We did sit outside under cover by bar and it was very loud. Hard to hear others speak. Not sure if anything can be done about that. The tent keeps in the noise. Other than that, we all enjoyed it. Will be back again.

The service was 10/10. I was craving oysters. The Salt Line had Happy Hour oysters, 12 for 30! I also ordered the lobster roll! I cannot stop thinking about it. I am looking forward to coming back.

This was our second visit, and once again it did not disappoint. From the fresh oysters to the perfectly cooked seafood mains, the quality and vibe were on point. But the real reason I’m writing this review is to acknowledge our server, William, who we were lucky enough to have both times. William is the kind of server who makes you feel like you're a regular, even if it's just your second time in. Friendly, attentive, and cool under pressure, he kept the mood just right throughout the evening. We’ll definitely be back — and hoping for a table in William’s section again.
