Alden and Harlow
While reservations are strongly suggested, we also save a portion of the dining room and bar for walk-ins in the event that your request cannot be accommodated. So please, come on in!
Parties of more than 8, please call to make a reservation.
We serve our full dinner menu until 11pm nightly and then switch to our late night menu from 11pm-Midnight, Sunday - Wednesday; 11pm-1am, Thursday - Saturday.
The food was superb as always! Love that you serve plenty of vegetables! Our meal was super tasty and interesting as well as healthy! We all felt the food was satisfying and not heavy. Loved it!
We choose to eat in the green room as it is quieter. We had to ask that the music be turned down as it was quite loud. We appreciated that the staff turned it down for us and the other diners. Thank you!
Loved it. Cozy, delicious. We had brunch on a Sunday. Note: the brunch menu is limited and a little unusual. Unfortunately they had run out of several of the listed items when we got there (1:15PM). But everything we tried was lovely. Great atmosphere. Hip & interesting but quiet enough to carry on a conversation --perhaps because we were there at a time when not crowded.
Our waitress was awful. Ignored us and didn't seem to want to have anything to do with our table! Was there something wrong with my boyfriend and I? Very strange. But the food was amazing and we like coming here so we'll get over it.
Awesome, as usual. The best brunch in Cambridge, lovely place, great Bloody Mary.
The most ridiculous brunch menu I have ever seen. It was hard to find anything recognizable. Pigs tails???
Everything was great. But desserts were very bland and would not order again. Don’t waste your money on the dessert and order another meal
Excellent Service but we were only impressed by 2 out of the 5 dishes that we ordered.
Amazing food! Try the potatoes with peppers as starters.
Amazing dishes full of flavor and excellent service!
Great concept and great service. The bar is great and they are flexible about preparing custom drinks. The food was a bit uneven. The corn dish was more pasta than corn. The duck was tough (server took it off our bill, so kudos to her). The clams were a winner, as were the Brussel sprouts. While only rating it a 3, the ambiance is nice—a bit loud—-and despite my lower rating overall, I would go back but would likely focus on drinks at the bar.
Great food atmosphere service was exceptional and accommodating
My friend and I had dinner at A&H before a concert in Cambridge. As a result, we arrived just as the restaurant opened. In turn, that allowed us to get a corner table far from the madding crowd. And by 7, a truly madding crowd it had proved to be. I would not go to A&H unless I were assured in advance of a quiet place to sit, though doubtless some people would like the tumult.
The service was very pleasant and quite efficient, especially considering the ultimate mob.
The food was uniformly at least very good and in some cases excellent. The menu is not huge but it is varied and inventive. I could happily construct more meals from the choices given. Both meat and veggie choices were fine. The wine list is okay for choices to accompany the food, but one would not go to A&H for a wine celebration.
Hands down the best meal I've had at a restaurant in Boston in the last several years. Food was imaginative, well prepared, and delicious. The service was great, the meal paced beautifully and the dishes came out in the perfect order to be enjoyed.
This is the best restaurant in Cambridge. The food is amazingly good - very creative combinations of tastes and the staff are knowledgable, friendly and helpful. There is always something new to try.
Food was delish and scene was fun. Service was a bit slow. Glad they validate parking too
The food was pretty good! I liked my brunch experience more than dinner. It is definitely a very popular spot and the ambiance was in point. The service was ok, though.
Had a wonderful dinner, interesting dishes, fun to share, lively vibe, great service.
We had a great dinner at Alden & Harlow. The food is very imaginative and the tapas approach let us sample many different things. We have been there before and we will return!
Excellent service. Menu was varied. Server was knowledgeable. Food excellent. Wine list Broad.
I've been there twice now. The first time I ordered the burger. I didn't find it special. The second time I wanted to order the steak and was told it would be a 35 minute wait. I was with 3 other people and didn't want to inconvenience them so I quickly ordered something else which was disappointing.
Ran out of speciality burger by 5:45. They limit quantity to create demand for a standard menu item like a burger that they are supposedly known for?? Then recommend repeat visits to “try to get it” another time. Won’t be going back and would not recommend.
Overall we liked our dinner at Alden, but were very disappointed in the $17 “Secret Burger” which simply did not live up to the hype. The candy stripe beets with a mustard sauce were delicious as an app, as was the Kale salad. It’s a nice room, very comfortable, service was great, friendly and helpful. Clientele, as you would expect given the location, leans to preppy. Pricing a bit on the high side but not out of line with other similar restaurants. Enjoyable overall, but no need to rush back.
Great place to grab a quick, small plate meal. I enjoy the vegetable-based plates the best - so flavorful!
A perfect date night! The staff and ambiance were amazing, and I am still thinking about the PICKLED VERRILL FARM CORN PANCAKES. Such a special dish that perfectly blends together flavors and textures. We also had the UBIQUITOUS KALE SALAD, CHICKEN FRIED LOCAL RABBIT and SWEET CORN GARGANELLI - all were truly delicious! One of the best meals I have had in a long time!
It exceeded our already high expectations! Can't wait to go back.
Went for lunch with friends and everything was delicious - quinoa bowl, cheesy grits, avocado toast etc. Multiple items come with a barely-poached egg on top, fyi, which some in our party were a little apprehensive of, but it was very nicely cooked. A cool space down below the sidewalk. Definitely recommend!
In love with the place, the food, the people, the service. Everything was outstanding.
Alden and Harlow did not impress us at all. The food is overrated and most of the dishes are just bad. Did not try a single dish that we liked although we are family of five where everybody has different tastes. The service was ok. Still do not understand who goes there. Do not trust the rating.
The atmosphere is fantastic and an incredible food and drink menu.
Wished it was not so salty but generally pretty good
This place was amazing! The food was phenomenal. We ordered the kale salad, corn pancakes, and the secret burger. The corn pancakes were undeniably good.
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary, and they surprised us with some special drinks for the occasion.
We are from San Diego, and we were talking about how we would fly back just to eat at this restaurant!
Consistently excellent and creative food, delicious cocktails(and mocktails), and the best service- will continue to come back!
The restaurant was lovely and the servers were friendly and attentive. However the noise level was high, and it was hard to hear the dinner conversation. The dishes were complicated - maybe too much - with too many strong flavors competing in a small dish. Some of the combinations worked (the steelhead trout, the burrata), others (broccoli doused with honey over a very strange hummus) just didn't. Sometimes less is more...
This is one of our favorite restaurants anywhere. Whenever we are in Boston, we make a point of eating here. The food is inventive with fantastic combinations of flavors in every dish. Our service this last visit was especially great. Our server's recommendations were spot-on and she was attentive without being intrusive. All in all, I just don't write reviews often, but Alden & Harlow deserves the kudos.
Everything we ate and drank was amazing! Our waiter also offered great recommendations off the menu based on what we told him we had already enjoyed. The tapas-style nature kept food coming the whole meal and service was always attentive to bring out/take additional orders.
Things I liked -
Things I didn’t like -
Sitting in high stools, perhaps ask customers if they would prefer seats?
The service was slow
The free cold, pickled green beans were not very tasty
The menu was hard to navigate
The hostess was amazing and kindly accommodated us when I accidentally made a reservation for the following night. The server was also on point. The food was where we were less impressed, however it was still delicious. Based on the hype of the restaurant, I guess we had higher expectations. In order of appearance: The pickled string beans, which were complimentary, were super tasty. The pistachio salad was delicious despite having slightly too much dressing. The corn cakes really stole the show and my heart! Next up was the clam dish with some heavenly sauce, though the spread on the toast was odd, it went very well with the sauce for the clams. All in all, the appetizers were delightful. What was unfortunate was our burgers. Hailed as one of the best in Boston, we had high expectations that were, sadly, not met. Two of us order medium rare, and two medium well. All four burgers came out well done and the homemade potato chips were a bit soggy. Had it not been for the delicious appetizers we would not recommend dining here. Now, we simply would not recommend the supposedly coveted burgers.
Great food, we tried several small plates and all were fabulous!
All-around excellent dining experience -- we loved the various dishes we had -- we shared 6 for a group of 4 and it was perfect. Desserts were also outstanding - we shared 2. Service was excellent. Noise level was high but that was expected at 7pm on Sat.
We've been coming to this restaurant for 4 years and make a reservation every time we are in Boston. It's consistently good, with creative and seasonal menus and a good wine list and excellent knowledgeable staff
