Californian
Reverb is a stylish, contemporary restaurant offering modern American cuisine and cocktails in San Francisco, California. The interior is tastefully decorated with floating shelves lined with books adorning the rustic brick walls. Exposed ductwork and low hanging lamps with Edison bulbs complete the modern aesthetic while avoiding feeling pretentious. On the contrary, the warm, welcoming atmosphere of Reverb is one of its strongest attributes. The menu is playful, with appetizers like a salad of "raked leaves," which is butternut squash, pear, pomegranate and crisp vegetables leaves plated to resemble a pile of fallen leaves in autumn. Under the entre heading, the whimsical and creative dishes continue with the fairy ring, a plate of house-made duck-quince sausage, cavatelli pasta, sage pesto, porcini, and a butterscotch and a mushroom cream. There's also an extensive wine and cocktail list so guests can find the perfect drink to pair with their meal.

Not really sure if this was what I ordered, but was disappointed at the number of veggies that were cooked by deep frying.

Food was pretty good, slightly overpriced but not egregious. The space was attractive and the drinks were good. Server was a little awkward but there were no issues. I have no complaints but don't think this will be part of our regular rotation.

Sadly the food at Reverb keeps going down. I'm no longer comparing it to Verbena, that was a totally different class, just comparing Reverb to previous Reverb visits has shown a decline as well. There are better options on Polk and in the area.

Went here for brunch on a Saturday at 11:30. I had reservations but it wasn't overly packed at all, so they may not have been necessary. The brunch menu wasn't very large but there were plenty of great options on the menu. I had an egg sandwich with housemade SPAM which was pretty darn good. We also shared the doughnuts which were also quite good. The brunch cocktails were tasty and refreshing and were a great compliment to the food.

Reverb is a terrific space but the service was abysmal and the food mediocre at best. It used to be terrific as Verbena: I wish they could have kept up the food quality and service. My cannelloni was tough and dry. Hamburgers were ok but what is the white sticky stuff in the pots at the base of the French fries. It was unidentifiable by the whole table of six. Sorry to write this, I had hopes.

Let me say first......the food was delicious. Our issues began with the hostess seating us in their upstairs "loft" dining room when half of the main dining room was open. She then sat us at the worst table in the entire restaurant...right next to the service area for the room. She knew we were not happy. We then moved to another table upstairs when the server arrived who acknowledged she was new when asked about the only chardonnay sold by the glass. She was very nice just not helpful. The gentleman that served the dishes seemed very polished. Overall we had a nice meal but not at all memorable. We were glad to leave our loft area when done since two groups of four very loud people each had just been seated and needless to say, the noise level tripled.

We went here as a group of 4 and sat outside as it was a great day. Good coffee and amazing chicken and waffles and pancakes. The bloody Marys were also quite tasty. The service was a bit slow. Not sure if that was because we were outside, but it took a while to get waters on the table and our order in. The location was great for us. Polk Street has a lot going on and good energy.

We came here for SF restaurant week, and after reading the most recent reviews, I almost cancelled our reservation, but I decided to go ahead and give it a go. On the plus side, the drinks were amazing and all different. We also loved the complimentary popcorn and ended up ordering it to share. We decided to not order the Prix-fix menu and instead go off the regular menu. My sister and brother enjoyed their Chicken and Amaranth Waffle, and I really enjoyed the fried Brussels sprouts. Everything else was kind of meh. After being told they didn't have any more duck and quince sausage, I ordered the Poutine Gnocchi. It was bland, with very little substance. The vegetable gravy was too liquid-y and didn't really stick to the gnocchi. The winter vegetable salad was interesting, but wouldn't be keen on ordering it again either. The sweet potato soup was small, and not worth the amount paid for it. Dessert was pretty good. Out of all of them, the waiter had recommended the donuts, but our collective favorite was the Mares-eat-oats. I like the creativity that the chef is trying to show, but I feel they fall just short of the mark. I feel like the flavor profiles need to be bumped up a bit more, and some things need less style and more thought-process. i would definitely come back for drinks and snacks, but not a full dinner.

We found out about this place because of their listing on SF Restaurant Week, and when we arrived and had a chance to glance over the menu, we ended up ordering different items from their Restaurant Week menu. We sampled a few plates to share and their fried chicken with waffles. Everything was good, the decor was lovely and the staff was fantastic. The shining stars here are definitely their signature cocktails. Incredibly well-balanced, creative and delicious.

Reverb is a lot like its sister restaurant Gather. Consistently pretty tasty food, decent and often creative cocktails and super odd service in an uninspired environment. Interestingly, I went to Gather the same week and the service was noticeably better. Perhaps they've got some new management on board. Hopefully Reverb is next.

I FOUND THE ATMOSPHERE PLEASANT BUT IT WAS A BIT DARK TO SEE THE MENU. THE PRINT ON THE MENU WAS SO SMALL, ESPECIALLY THE DESCRIPTION OF THE DISHES THAT WE NEEDED A MAGNIFYING GLASS TO SEE IT. MUST BE A REGULAR COMPLAINT SINCE THE WAITRESS SUPPLIED THE MAGNIFYING GLASS. THE PRESENTATION OF THE PLATES WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE BUT WE ALL AGREED THAT THE PRICE WAS A BIT HIGH. THE FOOD WAS FAIR TO GOOD. I AM A SOMMELIER AND APPRECIATE GOOD WINE BUT THE LEAST EXPENSIVE WINE ON THE MENU WAS $48. I FEEL THAT A WIDER RANGE OF PRICES SHOULD BE OFFERED. ALL IN ALL MY EXPERIENCE WAS FAIR AND WITH THE WIDE SELECTION OF RESTAURANTS IN SF I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND REVERB TO FRIENDS.

Took a 1st date here - both a first time here. He had the Poutine Gnocchi and I had the Mushroom & Crispy Kale Risotto. So comforting and delectable. Cocktails were delicious and the overall environment (kind staff included) lent to a pleasant experiment. I've been to Gather in Berkeley...and it lived up to the experience I had there as well. Consistently is evident and I am grateful.

After reading a number of positive reviews online a group of 4 of us decided to try Reverb for a friends Birthday. We liked the atmosphere of the place and the pasta dish we shared for the table was very good. Our server was very friendly but was clearly overburdened to the point of sweating so profusely he kept spent the entire time he was speaking with us wiped his face with a handkerchief. It took a very long time to receive our drinks, food and even the check. This did not appear to be a function of the server himself but rather the restaurant being incorrectly staffed. As for the food the duck was recommended so strongly that all four of us ordered it. All of us liked the flavors of the dish but all of them were cooked so poorly that they tough and chewy. It was a lot of money to pay for a very average meal in a city that is full of amazing restaurants.

I cannot say how great this meal was!!!! Looking at the menu we went in with some trepidation, but when we tried the concoctions OMG were they awesome!!! The staff was well informed about their menus and were able to direct us in some choices that were perfect for our tastes. Heck, we even let them pick our desert our only complaint was that we wanted more of the cinnamon sorbet! We will be back again and again!!!

We came to reverb for our first wedding anniversary because a friend had been to "verbena" before and recommended the place. The staff was very nice and even offered us sparkling wine as an aperitif. Also, we got a really nice cozy table for two. The food, however, was unfortunately a little underwhelming, compared to what we had heard from "Verbena". It all looks great on the menu and the ingredients are surely high quality and sustainable, but the taste was not exceptional. Good food, well prepared, but not outstanding.

I was a little disappointed when we came in Sunday evening to find out that their menu on Sunday was actually just their brunch menu all day instead of their typical dinner menu! The place also seemed super empty at 6:45. We also asked for a wine list and the only thing that was available was the small list of wine available for brunch. The food was pretty good (ordered the squid salad, risotto, and duck confit hash) and I would come back BUT would not come back again for a Sunday evening dinner.

Had a late dinner after a long workday. We had a reservation and were seated quickly upon arrival, but once seated, we seemed to wait forever for anyone to notice us. Then the food took quite a long time. Otherwise, our waitress was fabulous, and the food delicious (albeit very rich) as usual

First time visit since it changed from Verbena - I understand why the change in menu etc when it reopened as Reverb and the need to appeal to a broader clientele. However, the reason we went to Verbena was the unique small plates and great vegetarian selections. Most of that is missing now. For some, this will be a welcome change, for us, this is a no go. Food was good, not great. Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable.

We booked our table last minute and had no trouble getting a reservation. That being said, they stuck us upstairs in a tiny room with 4 tables when there were plenty of tables in the main room, which was very lively. The food was great but our server had a french accent and spoke very low so we had to keep asking her to repeat herself. The food was delicious and I would definitely eat there again. I would call in advance to ensure that I would not be stuck in that room again.

As a regular at Verbena, Reverb's predecessor and owner, I had high hopes for Reverb. Yes, the concept had morphed into a more casual spot, but I'd read the beautiful space had been retained and assumed the same excellent service was as well. Well, you know what they said about "assume." I honestly can't remember a service experience as outrageously bad as this turned out to be. At first, I felt compassion for our server who was clearly given far too many tables to manage. Perhaps they weren't anticipating the nearly-full house it turned out to be. But when the server literally backed away from our table the minute we began to ask questions because she didn't have time to stay with us; and when we wanted to order wine and it took over 15 minutes to get it; and when we wanted to order more food and that same server was within inches of us but wouldn't acknowledge our hand signals; and when they brought us the check before asking if we wanted anything else (we did), I was stunned. I felt as though we were unwitting players in a reality TV show. You might be thinking that my we must have done something to irritate our server. As a former server myself, I assure you I am entirely empathetic when it comes to restaurant service (hence my initial compassion when I realized she was slammed), and I'm pretty certain my only offense was sitting in her station. So to outright ignore a table and be downright rude for no reason neither my friend nor I could discern is inexcusable. As for the food, well, if only I could remember what we had. Yeah - THAT memorable. It sounded good on paper, and maybe we ordered wrong (the squash "tots-" flavorless & mushy; the deviled eggs - the best; squid salad- ok, not great - we should have known that lentils & green goddess dressing might not go together; and a butternut squash, pear and pomegranate combo that could have been tasty but wasn't) - but I can't think of a reason I'd ever subject myself such a horrendous experience ever again.

Wait staff was awesome - very friendly and helpful and food was dropped in a very timely manner. However, this was offset by an incredibly long wait (40mins) to actually be sat because the hostess didn't want to ask another table, which had already paid, to leave. In addition to the long wait, the hostess was very pretentious and rude about the quality of the restaurant. Her attitude alone will mean I never return to the restaurant. Too bad because the donuts were delicious.

The Pumpkin Gnocchi was a delicious starter! And the Autumn Salad of Raked Leaves was a Fall goodies delight! Our favorite was the Fairy Ring pasta dish!! It was delish!

The Sunday dinner menu is breakfast only. We did not know this until we had ordered our wine. It was delicious but we were looking forward to a full menu. It would have been good to know that ahead of time.

My husband and I met another couple here for dinner on Friday and we each brought our babies. The restaurant was very accommodating with highchairs and all the staff was very friendly. We ordered the Autumn salad, the goats cheese salad, and the pork belly steamed buns to share as appetizers amongst the three of us. It was all delicious and the Autumn salad was very inventive and unlike anything I've ever had before. For the entrees the guys ordered burgers and were very pleased and us girls ordered the rockfish - it was cooked perfectly and it was light. We loved everything we ordered and the friendliness of the staff but my only complaint is that it took a full hour to get our entrees after the appetizers. It normally wouldn't be a big deal but both babies started to get very fussy and the restaurant wasn't even half full. We didn't understand what was taking so long to get our food. Anyway, the ambience and food were nice and it wasn't cramped like a lot of restaurants in the city. Will return.

This was my third time here and the quality has really gone down over the past few months. The first time I was here in early August I thought this was going to be my new favorite neighborhood restaurant/bar. This time and on my previous visit in September it seemed like they are really trying to cut costs. The cocktails are half the size of what they were in August and while the food is still reasonably good it is no longer anything to rave about.

Took my parents here while they were in town. My mom is follows a plant-based diet. Our server was knowledgeable about the ingredients in our meal and the kitchen made adjustments accordingly to match her dietary restrictions. I highly recommend trying a bunch of small plates and sharing them. Everything was delicious from the caramelized carrots to the mushroom risotto with kale chips. The cocktails are really fun too.
