We were there for our anniversary. Everyone that greeted us wish us a happy anniversary. The service was exceptional as was the food! We were seating by the window with a fabulous view of the city. We will be back.
The Webster House is our go-to if we want great food close to the Kauffman. The quality of the food is consistent, and it is always fun to do some browsing in the shop either before or after eating.
Excellent and very conscientious management. Wait staff is always superb, and Michelle is especially sad.
Excellent food and service. Highly recommended for brunch lunch or dinner. Enjoyed a little shopping at
Webster House before and after brunch
The staff at Webster House are totally awesome! They are attentive and gracious to a fault. The Sunday brunch is the best of anything else in Kansas City!
Great setting, and an added bonus that you could do some shopping with wine in hand while you wait for your table, but the food was really disappointing.
Darin and his staff were amazing as always. Great food, excellent service, and a unique and elegant setting. I was particularly impressed by the bar and cocktail menu, and that the bar tender came to our table to speak with us about her creative spirits.
We found Webster House quite charming. Entering through the first level with the Christmas decorations was charming. After being seated upstairs, service quick was quick, efficient, and friendly. My date and I immensely enjoyed our entrées: she had the salmon and I had the braised pork.
Why dating I especially liked Webster House being in within walking distance of the Kauffman Center where we went for a magnificent performance of Madame Butterfly.
A favorite. always a wonderful dining experience with my friends,
Our server Gary was outstanding! Willing to accommodate special request. Attentive to keeping coffee and water full. Lovely!
Second time eating here. The food has been excellent both times. Brunch portions were hefty which is nice. Brought two guests (one visiting and one local) and both were very impressed. Service was on point. This quaint restaurant in this historic old school building is amazing. Then you can go downstairs and shop all the cute gift shops.
Great food and service.
Gary was wonderful...the food was awesome and the new drink menu was great...
Excellent manager who helped us move to a different table. He was very professional and easygoing at the same time.
My wife and I had dinner there on the 3rd November. We sat in a lobby with the kitchen at the end of it. You are proud of your pricing. I had the potato soup to start and my wife the mixed greens. The greens were good, how could you mess that up? In contrast the soup was creamy, lukewarm and with nary a potato taste in sight. Clearly this was an exception? But no my wife had the scallops which were completely overpowered with some kind of parsnip/beet mix on some kind of ill defined brownish sauce which was completely out of place. Sad and expensive. I had the chicken liver appetizer which was overdone so that the breading was the taste I got. It was over crisp and totally overshadowed the sensitive liver taste as it had been overlooked. I had also ordered the charcuterie which was brought out and proved to be a huge amount of food. So much so that I had the waiter box it and I took it home. Did the waiter warn me that was too much? No he did not. The experience was sad. We expected better. Will we eat here again in a hurry? No we will not. I think you take advantage of your location near the Kaufman so don’t care?
Wonderful! I prefer to sit in bar room where it is quieter and cozier. We sat in kitchen area which is a little noisier.
Food is acceptable, portions average sized. Wines are of fair quality but over priced.
We went for dinner before the opera and our waiter was sensitive to the time constraint. He got us out on time without feeling rushed. The pasta dish I had was really delicious as was the salmon salad my friend had as a special order.
Great meal prior to attending the opera at the Kauffman -- even received a "special" menu stating "Happy Anniversary".
Food is always delicious. They have an awesome boutique downstairs. Wish they offered seasonal specials like before but its all good.
We were celebrating our adult son’s birthday who had flown in from FL. We wanted to do something special and chose the Webster House. We have enjoyed previous dining there. However, we were very disappointed in the food. It was not the quality we expected. Some hot food was below serving temperature and unexceptional. The cured meat & pickled vegetable appetizer was a major disappointment. Entire meal very overpriced.
This is a great lunch spot with a wonderful view. Creative food and wonderful service.
Wonderful restaurant above a unique store. Great ambience and incredible food. The risotto was so hearty and flavorful!
The food was excellent but our waiter, Brandon, made the lunch. He was fun, efficient and thoughtful. With out-of-town guests as part of the party, everyone left with a very special impression of Webster House. And the shopping was good as well!
Seriously outdated decor and menu. High price but service didn’t meet the price point. Won’t go back, food was boring, desserts were terrible and bill was high.
Fabulous birthday dinner before the KC Symphony Gershwin concert
Awesome service and amazing food. Their side dishes were just as good as the entrees.
Webster House has good food, but sometimes the Chef tries to be a little edgy. So, for example, they had a Cod dish, served with barley/kale. The cod was incredibly bland, but the barley/kale was way over the top intense. Eeuck. Why not do the cod in a traditional way, but add some flavorful sauce (the French approach) and then serve the barley/kale so one could investigate the flavors without having them explode in your mouth? ( Again, the French understand the delicate nature of veggies, and how they should never be 2nd place to the protein.) Other selections on the menu were good, but missed the mark. The chicken dish had a marvelous sauce, but again, where were those veggies? Buried below some greens? Sacre Bleu ! Put the veggies where they belong, have a sauce that works all together. Celebrate delicate flavors. Piling things on top of one another is passe, artsy but not culinarily appropriate.
Desert - missing: the creme brulee that used to be a signature menu item. They featured a carrot cake. Now, I am prejudicial to a wonderful carrot cake such as that at Cheesecake Factory or J. Alexanders (that is the best!) . This was a small portion of a cake that had only carrots. No raisins, no walnuts. The appropriate cream cheese frosting was way too thin and had zero flavor. Little balls of whipped creme on top? Pretty, but not contributing to the flavor.
Coffee: excellent. Not overpowering, with flavor and body.
Food was great. Noise level higher than usual, maybe due to several larger parties. Service slower this time.
As always, Webster House shines! The food, the ambience, the wonderful shop, all help to make a complete dining event. We had a new waiter who was marvelous and deserving of kudos. One feels when they are at Webster House that they're every need is catered to. It is a special place to be. Thank you.
It was a wonderful place to celebrate my husbands birthday!
Beautiful space. Delicious food. Great service. A great place for two people to have a quiet lunch or for a group of people. All the items for sale add to the interest and the restoration of the old school is wonderful!
This was our first visit to Webster House after reading and hearing about it for many years. It's in a bit of an isolated location but is right next to the Kauffman Center where we were attending a performance. An oddity is that there is a clothing/specialty store on the first floor - almost like you entered the wrong building. But, that added to it's unique appeal. The food was very fresh and prepared perfectly (farm to table). If we had one "complaint" it's that the portions were too large. The dinning area is elegant with tables arranged fairly close to each other, so less intimate and vibrant but cozy. The service was virtually perfect - very attentive but not overbearing - and not 5 different people attending our table. If that's not enough, the best may be the value which may be the best in the city. I recommend dressing business casual or a bit better... not jeans and t-shirt. In retrospect we can not believe we took so long to visit Webster House but we'll be returning before too long.
Enjoyed a delicious lunch last week. Staff was courteous. The dining area was quiet enough to sit and visit with a friend. The food was fresh and presentation beautiful.
Really awesome food and great location for dining prior to performances at the Kauffman Performing Arts Center.
Came on a Sunday before going to the ballet. The food and service was outstanding! My daughter and I truly enjoy coming to Webster House to celebrate special occasions or just as a special treat for ourselves!
Our second visit to Webster House (2 yrs). Love the shops; we arrived early to look around. Pleasant greeting by hostess and shown to a very nice table. Drinks and wine were excellent. Nice interval between salads and entrees. I LIKE that in a fine restaurant; I do not like 'pre-prepared' dishes or being rushed. Our food (beef & salmon) were outstanding although, as a man, I do like larger portions. A little 'noisy,' but a small price to pay for the amazing ambiance and decor. Service was also first-rate.
I have eaten at Webster House many times, and normally it is a win. But this trip was not good. As always, the staff and the ambiance were fantastic. I ordered a gluten free entree, the tuna, and my partner ordered steak. He had no issues with his dish. Mine, however, was overly sweet without much contrast or balance to the dish, and as I sadly discovered a few hours later, it was NOT gluten free. I was ill for the rest of the evening, which was highly inconvenient since I had tickets to the ballet.
Service was very slow. We had allowed 1 1/2 hours before the ballet and barely made it! Food was not as good as it usually was either!
